  • About Me
I've been fishing for over 40 years. My granddad started me off like a lot of folks with a cane pole and bobber. Fast forward and I love bass fishing. I primarily fish Pickwick Lake which is about 40 miles from where I live. I like to make my own lures such as jigs, bladed jigs and buzzbaits.

  1. Excuse the photo quality. It is a picture from an old phone. Caught it on a frog patterned Baby Torpedo.
  2. Lots of great information here! Thanks!
  3. I am thinking about keeping a fishing journal this year. If you keep one, what information do you record? Do you do it on the water or after you get home? Do you find it easy to stay on top of or is it hard to remember to do it?
  4. This year I hope to gain confidence in a jerkbait and a jig. I've caught some fish on them but want to make them confidence baits. I used to catch a lot of fish on a Rapala Original Floating 11S. I just quit using them for some reason. I want to learn to fish a suspending or sinking jerkbait. I just haven't fished jigs. I know with consistent use they will produce.
  5. Sorry for the delay. I didn't see you posted. Yes, you are correct.
  6. Either the Upper Mississippi River around LaCrosse, Wisconsin bass fishing or the Brazilian Amazon rainforest fishing for huge peacock bass.
  7. I've lost rods and caught them back. I lost an $800 pair of Rx sunglasses. That was a painful one to tell the wife. I've dropped tools working on the motor while on the water. And, I lost a Pastor. Yep. My Pastor went out with me in a jon boat. The water was about 50 degrees. The back seat was a little wobbly and he was warned to leave it down and not put the post on it. He put the 13" post on it, set the hook hard and in the drink he went. He never went with me again. HA!!
  8. I'm planning on learning about off shore fishing. I've been a bank beater all of my life. After 40+ years of bass fishing, I'm finding out what I've always done ain't getting the results anymore. I would also like to fish my first tournament (small local).
  9. If you have to have the surgery done, take your time getting back to fishing. I had it done and rushed it and reinjured mine. It takes about 4 to 6 months to fully heal. Take closer to 6. You'll be glad you did. I had a buddy do the same thing I did and reinjure it by coming back too soon. It will drive you nuts watching warm weather slip by but you don't want to lose it all again. Sorry for double post. Please delete if possible.
  10. There's a book??? I'm 34 years in and just now finding out there's a book! Crap!
  11. This is my 1986 Stratos 179V. It is powered by a Mariner 150 Magnum. It is a two owner boat (before me). Both prior owners kept it in the garage and took very good care of it. It is the cleanest 38 year old boat I have ever seen. I love it!
  12. Been there done that. Sank a 14 foot jon boat at Pickwick in the wind.
  13. Not necessarily strange or weird but a rare sighting nonetheless. I once saw a bass eat a duckling at Shelby Forest in Tennessee. Mom was leading them in a line. Suddenly there was a huge boil in the water and one of the ducklings vanished. A buddy of mine and I were fishing a creek WAY back in the sticks. This is the kind of place you hear banjos playing. There was an old man named Whited that lived nearby. We heard splashing around off in the distance and low and behold, Mr. Whited comes walking out of the lily pads with a rifle. My buddy asked him what he was doing. Mr. Whited said, "Deer hunting." This was the middle of summer. My friend asked what kind of rifle it was and he said a .22. I asked him if he was worried about getting in trouble with the Game Warden and he replied, "Ain't no Game Warden gonna mess with an old man out walking around in a swamp with a .22 deer hunting." Crazy old man. The same friend and I were at the same creek fishing in his 2-man scamp. Suddenly we had a ricocheted bullet go right between our heads. Scared us both to death. We kinda laughed nervously and said it must have been Mr. Whited deer hunting again. Once I was fishing a private 300 acre lake. I kept hearing something thrashing in the water on the other side of the cove. After a few times, I went across to see what it was. When I got over there it stopped completely. I went back across and started fishing again. The huge explosions started back again. I couldn't stand it. I had to see what it was. I went back across. This time it continued. It was a huge bass with a large bluegill stuck in its throat/mouth. I lipped the bass and forced the bluegill out, released both and they swam off.
  14. Great info Pickle_Power. And I love me some popper fishing!
