  1. The kvd square bills are the best lures with his name on it. I have tried a lot of his stuff, and the bluegill 1.5 squarebill is the only thing that has produced from the KVD stuff for me. Maybe the great one himself needs to use the others haha.
  2. I think it just has to do with it being a semi natural color. I never do well with crazy colors. Literally most of my baits are white, black and natural. For softs green pumpkin, black and blue, white or bluegill if it’s a swimbait, seems to work out pretty well. In michigan fish, also seem to love anything black and gold.
  3. We had close to flood level rains, I think it increased the area of shallow water for the entire season from all the spring rain. Plus, we have had a lot of days with some cloud cover I’m not sure if that’s a contributing factor, more of an observation of my area.
  4. I have spent 150-200 dollars on whopper ploppers alone, I am the fishing companies dream ?everytime I stop to look at lures or pass the gander outdoors near by i all of a sudden find my hands full of lures. I’m buying lures when I have lures that I haven’t even thrown yet. I think I have an issue haha. I buy colors of lures I already have that work, because I always think one day I’m gonna need it. I bet most of the guys on here have that problem? Also, oddly enough this season I have had to not dig deep into the tackle box. I usually fish early or late and always start with the best part of the water, top and somehow smack a bunch and than call it a day ? I have an unreal amount of topwater catches this season. Way more than ever. Like if I have to move past spinners and cranks and start popping worms I’m either not on the fish or they aren’t hitting that day, I have only had to resort to softs 3,4 times this season of maybe 35-40 trips! Strangest fishing season I have had, although who can complain about heavy topwater action and obviously my time of day has a huge influence.
  5. I have called the DNR for less believe me. Many anglers understand to keep the water clean, take legal fish, and are Fully licensed. Many of us understand the reasons there are limits on fishing, and why they change year to year. Unfortunately, many (pick you favorite derogatory term)”fisherman” are the total opposite. I mean if you get a birds nest don’t throw it in the water, if you can retrieve a lure do it, use appropriate test for the species you are fishing for, don’t keep crazy limits and undersized fish. I hate seeing guys using the whole ultra light tackle set ups, while it might be fun to fight a fish for 5-10 minutes, it’s not fun for the fish, and with pike and many other species they can die on the line. Quick catch, quick release, unless it’s a walleye. Than I eat it. Part of the reason I prefer catch and release is I’m very particular with what species I eat, and I figure the ones I throw back might balance out pigs like this guy. It seriously looked like a bass genocide. I hope I never see that angler again, or behavior like it. I actually went as far to email the picture to myself and delete it off my phone. It makes me mad to see the picture still and I’m not even kidding. I just don’t understand why someone would wanna kill that many fish in one day. If you take your 5 bag home good for you! It’s your right, however unless I plan on eating it I’m not keeping it.
  6. No this is my first time actually expressing interest in any custom rod lol! If you’d like to message me what it can range cost wise, we could save a ton of time. I have never done a custom rod i don’t know if they are 50$ or 5000$ haha! Obviously going extreme on both ends! I am not made of money though so if it’s really really expensive I’ll give up this imaginary rod that doesn’t exist yet ?
  7. Feeding your family is one thing, but this guy would need to sell his boat first for me to believe that, as well as get rid of the 40-50k truck he had pulling it!
  8. Thank you, I hope no one in here took this as a tooting my own horn. I came home from fishing when the bite was on MAD! I wanted to share this with other anglers, because I never never seen such pure greed with keeping fish. Like I said if the size limit is 14 inches and you keep a 13 and 3/4 I’m not gonna make a post about you on bassresourse, but to poach 32 bass is criminal! What bothers me the most is one of those bass could have grown up to be a state record. We will never know now! In my opinion the only way to stop this is to actually make poaching penalties harsher. A fine is a slap on the wrist, especially if the poacher has any form of wealth. I may be out of line, but I’d like to see jail time or at least community service or probation. See how the guy likes being drug tested or alcohol tested for 6 months.
  9. Was looking for a couple interesting setups I cannot find on the market! Any suggestions on custom rod makers?
  10. If someone called you out Glenn, they are just having a major inferiority complex. i have learned a ton from your videos! In fact I could outright say you, Roland Martin and my uncle taught me 75% of what I know on bass fishing, the rest was trial and error. And believe me lots of errors have been made, but now I rarely get skunked and when I do, I am usually knowingly going out on “less favorable” days haha.
  11. Try some googan baits next time your at a gander. I am not affiliated with them in any way, but they have been great for me. I really like their natural and green pumpkin colors. They are pricey, but you get what you pay for. Plus I will say this after years of fishing, and rebuilding my stolen tackle box, I realize now why people say fishing isn’t cheap. I have probably spent a grand on replacing my tackle! Plus being a part time Muskie fisherman, 7$ is a joke to me for lures. A Medusa will run ya upwards of 30$ a lure, and trust me they still break off ? thank god they got my bass box and not my Muskie box. I don’t even wanna think about buying 10-12 20$+ bucktails plus all the Medusa’s and spoons and 30$ xraps ??? the more I think about it, If I didn’t have access to a boat a charter would be cheaper for Muskie for me haha
  12. Thank you guys for your help. i really enjoy challenging myself with new species and locations, so this should be fun. When I do make it out I will be sure to show off my catch! Just so my smallmouth river coaches can see I can follow directions haha
  13. Well first off thank you for your service. My uncle was a Vietnam veteran and he taught me how to fish, I have unreal respect for our armed forces! Without him I wouldn’t even be fishing, ever since he took me deep sea fishing in San Diego at like 13 it changed my life! and I know exactly what you mean, I drive around with my poles on me half the time, because I know I’m passing a pond or mini lake, and I just end up hammering a couple big bass usually quickly considering some people don’t try these lakes the fish just go nuts for lures! Get a quick fishing fix! if your ever in my parts I’d gladly take you to some of my spots! If you have any recommendations your willing to share in southeastern Michigan I am all ears haha! I will tell you I have spots I found in major fisheries I could probably win a tournament on and catch my bag within 2 hours haha I am in the process of trying to move up from ACHA hockey to NCAA hockey as an official and hopefully to the NHL at some point if I’m lucky, so I don’t really have time to spend doing crazy tournaments. You’d think summer time I’d get a break, but I have to do a ton of high level men’s league games to make ends meet! Skating 20-30 hours a week takes its toll on your body haha. Plus, I’m still finishing my degree at the ripe age of 28 haha! So fishing is often hard to find time for, but I make sure to hit the water at least once a week, sometimes 4-5 if I have days off or my schedule is more local!
  14. I’m finally gonna go on Thursday or Friday, we had a cold front and I have had to work a lot of late games with a decent amount of travel(ice hockey official) where I have been so tired after skating and driving my plans just fall through! theres a dam on the river I’m fishing and I know there are trout right by the d**n it’s deep, but I was gonna fish it about a quarter mile down or above the d**n I haven’t decided yet, but I was gonna throw on some old sneakers and walk the bank until I find fish. This is more of a challenge for myself, because I don’t do enough bank fishing, it will be nice to find fish on my own, without a fish finder or my known spots. I think what separates a good angler from a great angler is being able to locate and catch fish on ANY body of water. That’s my goal to hit that point one day and I’ll never get there without practice, besides if I get skunked I’m off all weekend so I’ll either try new parts or just hop in the whaler and go to my normal holes haha. St. Clair is a savior to live by, if you can’t catch fish there your doing something wrong anything from a Muskie to a bowfin lives in that lake!
  15. You might have hit the nail on the head. In Michigan you never know what’s gonna bite, partially the reason I run a fluro leader on anything I can, I don’t want a pike getting his mouth stuck together because I’m too cheap to throw some leader on, plus I can’t imagine putting transparent line on the end of my braid to hurt my chances! when I go out tomorrow for smallies that gonna be all im focusing on haha. I like the idea of a fishing hole 15 minutes from my house! Although lake st clair is only about 35, just getting the boat out by yourself is a hassle! Obviously can be done, but it’s easier with two people. i am still curious to know if they coexist where trout would be in a stream. I know where to catch trout and pike on the river I wanna scout, but I have never gone on it to specifically target smallies! I just know they are in there, have seen people catching them on tubes of various colors, but this was I believe early spring and I’m sure the fish have moved!
  16. I have been in love with the ghost gill with a touch of sunlight and clear waters, the choppos are catchers all right!
  17. I’m not impressed with a lot of their baits, but the prop frog and their “thump” spinner bait both work exceptionally well. Trust me that’s partially why I gave up on it. Figured oh I’ll buzz it by weeds, it stops buzzing and it’s a wasted cast. I think I rather just throw a frog and the retrieve I use with a frog doesn’t create the same effect obviously, but you can make a wake with a frog that’s on the more “silent” side, which is what I believe that prop was made to be like a minor buzz bait effect. Your absolutely right on ploppers getting stuck also, but that lure out right produces.
  18. Your dead right on the areas no one thinks fish are! We live In Michigan if there’s water 9/10 times there’s something to catch. I fish the Clinton river for pike all summer! They are easy as hell to find and you occasionally find big ones trapped above the dam by Yates! Smallmouth are in there too, but I don’t feel comfortable posting where. If you want info message me haha. I just don’t want randoms in my spot, but if your a bass resource member your a friend in my book haha are you still in the area i noticed you said from there! I’m in the metro Detroit area north of 59 near 53 haha.
  19. Thank god we don’t have this problem on lake st. Clair. I’d trip out if someone slit a Smallmouths throat and threw it overboard. Michigan has blessed fishing grounds. My only complaint is our LMB do not get big enough haha
  20. Color selection! I have seen some ridiculous colors, I could get away with Black/blue and pumpkin softs. natural, white and black top waters! Spinners again natural white chartreuse or black blue. this is retaining more towards bass fishing. Pike will eat lures in colors fish don’t even exists in, but I think people way over think colors when it comes to bass. I mean if your throwing a deep diving crank light and dark depending on water clarity. Your 15 feet under water, the fish won’t be able to see the detail of your Rapala!
  21. Lunkerhunt prop fish is an awful, awful lure. Either I don’t know how to fish it, or it looks way better in the package. If anyone likes these I’m sorry, but it’s just not a good bait! I tried 2 colors thinking it was a solid option, looks like a fish, small prop and weedless, but for whatever reason nothing will touch it! Not even a pike! And that says a lot, I bet you could catch a pike on a hot wheels with a hook attached. Edit-I do believe they could catch a fish, but I’m done throwing the thing. could and can are two different things haha
  22. Boy oh boy, I tried googan softs for the first time.... I’m sold, they are just way to expensive, however I’m out there to catch so if it takes a couple extra bucks to go googan I will. The kraken craw and the brush hog are both ? Have tried their natural, and green pumpkin and I am very, very impressed.
  23. I’m planning to go hammer a few on a river I never fished, but “heard of a stretch” in about 2 hours! Let’s hope it goes well. I’m also very ok with catching a pike and frequently use a leader because of this, do smallies care? The largemouth don’t lol! Not wire 25lb fluero leader material handles most if not all average pike. Thats always a common issue in just about any large pond and up in Michigan or river. There will be pike! Also, do they hang out where people find trout in a stream/river or usually they don’t co exist? That can narrow the stretch I’m looking for by a mile lol.
  24. I’m pretty sure scientifically speaking a fish like most animals feels pain, how they interpret the pain is what differs. This is at least what I have read and seems to be the scientific consensus. This is the general understanding i was under, I also have heard their nerve endings differ and if you properly hook a fish it’s “less painful” which in a way makes sense. Some areas are less painful to cut on our own body’s! But again, they are animals they go of instinct Pain to them, may trigger a flight response hence the fight, they may not sit there like Peter griffin holding his knee, but I’m sure they experience discomfort.
  25. That’s how I beat my locally pressured impoundment. Throw old baits or brand new. By old I’m talking stuff no one throws anymore. It works! Try it!
