  1. If I had to use a short spool I'd lay out the old line in the yard, then wind on the short spool, connect to the old line and top it off, then lay it out in the yard and reverse it.
  2. I'd go with 2 poles for what you want to do. My small stream trout rod is a 6ft UL and usually use 2# mono throwing 1/64th oz hand tied fly jigs.
  3. Certainly not the best or lightest, but have been using a revo toro 51 on my repurposed 7'6" H telescopic that I use for light musky baits and slop. Casts frogs as far as I'd care to reel in and on 65# braid. Great reel, smooth with power to spare. If I was a diehard slopper I'd go lighter.
  4. The DC705CB arrived yesterday and put the bantam on it. First impressions, it felt it was a little heavier than the avid. Similar blank properties, the epoxy on the guide wraps is much thicker on the dobyns. There were a few dabs of epoxy on the blank that my fingers felt and had to bring out the magnifier to make sure they weren't nicks. Overall it seems to be of similar quality.
  5. I finally received my DC705CB, paired with the bantam it throws my 1/8 oz cranks fine on 14# fluoro. It needs a little more thumbing than my 101 conquest did but am pleased so far. Nice little reel, as smooth as I'd hoped for. I'll have to try a metanium next season.
  6. Well duh, of course you can. SoCal guys only need a rowboat and a treble hook. ?
  7. Thanks, I have my rod on the way and put it on a 66 ml to play with it. Throwing a 1/8 oz crank it took more tuning than I'm used to. Hopefully the 705b cr will throw it better.
  8. I bought one Saturday from japan and had it in my hands yesterday. The chronarch is a solid reel, still have a 101a that I use.
  9. I watched an in depth review of the bantam. One of the suggested issues with it was the short distance between the spool and line guide. The reel was squirrelly when using 14# fluorocarbon, and casting distance while good, isn't the best. Anyone here have issues using fluoro with the bantam? I've got a lifetime supply of 14# so that's all I use on my crankbait rod.
  10. Way to go John! I admire your non sporting goods purchases?
  11. Its not so much hiding as surprising. Now hiding would be when she asks about details of a bachelor party, some things are best left unsaid. Bring on those pitchforks! Homewreckers Tackle forked me once, I can take it. But, let's not forget that I, flat, am the victim here.
  12. I was referring to tackle retailers as hustlers- sorry for the confusion. Kudos to you for getting approval before purchasing. My wife knows disapproval on sporting gear is futile.
  13. No offense but I believe this one is over your head. All you future rod hustlers take notice- refund and email good, ratting out customer to his wife- bad.
  14. A funny note, I ordered the same rod from another business and was just notified by email that it was not available. Oh well, back to analog shopping.
  15. That's the thing, I didnt. My home phone must be connected to the account that I used to pay. Alas, I'm a victim of technology. This is the first time I've ever been contacted on my home phone. I do highly reccomend Homewrecker Tackle to all the single guys out there- great customer service!
  16. That's more like it. Bring out the pitchforks! I'm the victim here. Ha!
  17. The phone call is a nice touch, but with the business they are in, the script should be ready when a female answers the phone- "Good evening, I need only a few minutes of your time to participate" click.
  18. I'll disclose the business to save others a similar fate, the caller was Karen from Homewrecker Tackle.
  19. Yes, no biggie. Luckily my wife is supportive of my habit.
  20. It's been awhile since I've purchased a pricey fishing combo and thought I would share a very recent customer service experience. I placed an order Saturday evening for an in stock rod and while at work yesterday evening, I received a notification that my money had been refunded. That is fine and all, but a few minutes later I received a text from my wife "Hey, just got a call from (redacted) at (redacted), or something. Said a rod you ordered is out of stock and he'll put the money back onto your account" Not cool! Ha!
  21. For me it would be a 7' medium spinning rod used primarily with senko type baits. Spooled with 14# braid and a 6' - 17#+ fc leader and texas rigged senko on a 3/O hook. From Canadian shield smallies in boulder fields to largemouth under gin clear labaryth boat docks, the rod has the backbone to crank the large hooks through the mouth and rarely break off with this setup. The ones I do break off wouldn't have been hook without this setup anyway.
  22. I fish river mostly as the boat launch is a mile away. In order of most used: a 7' mhm crankbait rod, tied with a 7' mh pitching rod always rigged with a 4" tube, a 7' med spinning rod used mainly with senkos, and a 6'6" ml for small stuff. I have other 7' mh sometimes rigged with swimjigs or jig and craw, and 7' med spinning rods for jig worms, etc. All avids, but I'm replacing the crankbait rod with a dobyns. I catch piles of bass on my $15 okuma 7' lite while burning worms for flathead bait.
  23. Good enough, I've got the dobyns and a bantam pg on the way- thanks for your input!
  24. It's the champion, similarly priced to an avid.
