  1. I have been tying my own jigs since shep was a pup. I used to sell them but got tired of the hassel. I see nothing wrong with that jig. I like bright and unusual colors. If you want a good deal on some silicone skirts, check out www.fishingskirts.com.
  2. I just had the most incredible jerkbait day of my life. My partner and I had over 100 bass on jerkbaits. We used a lot of different brands and on that day the Xrap beat my pointers like a left handed, red headed, unwanted stepchild. I had only boated one fish until I borrowed some of his Xraps. You can bet your bottom dollar I won't hit the water again without several of my own.
  3. What kind of head, hook kind and size and what colors are you interested in using?
  4. I bought a similar rod this winter for grub fishing. I sent an old Green Curado to Reel Mechanic and had him do a bearing upgrade. It mounted with 8# mono and does a good job with a 3" grub on a 1/8 oz head. Next time out I am going to try it on medium sized jerkbaits.
  5. I have it and really like it. I bought it because digital scales never gave me a consistent reading. The Boga is certifiable. It works just fine on any size fish I have weighed. It also makes a good landing tool for large fish hooked on multiple treble hook baits. I don't trust myself or fishing partners so I have a rope tied to mine and the rope tied to the boat. I have had it for about 3 years and would buy one again in a heartbeat.
  6. Not having stated the types of baits and sizes it would be impossible to give you sound advice. Give out some more info and you can get some suggestions.
  7. I was needing a spare prop a while back and googled it. I found a great buy here in my home state. I suggest you give that a try.
  8. Carry more than one style, size, and brand. Yesterday the fish wouldn't give my big pointers a look. They didn't like my Mann's deep jerk. They would, however, hit my Stacey King size pointers fairly well. But they were really in the mood for a little more wabble and climbed all over the Xraps no matter what color we used. Yesterday the Xrap out did the LC at least 4-1, but who knows what mood they might be in today.
  9. We are in the midst of a really good jerkbait bite. I have been using them hard for a few days. It is generally windy and putting on the first one at home is fairly easy. When I want to change them there seems to always be 2 or 3 of them hooked together. Fooling around with them gets me close to a meltdown and gets the boat way out of position. Do any of you have good ways to keep them from fouling each other when in 360 storage boxes?
  10. Myself I use Bass Boat Saver. It goes on everything except the carpet.
  11. You can change the ping at the bow to 50 and the console to 100 and see if that helps. You can also stop the chart on the console unit while you are up front. That will stop the ping and stop the interference but leave the gps alone. The only way I could get my units to stop interference without stopping the chart was to put in the ethernet cable. It allows both units to look at the same transducer so only one is actually working and you have 0 interference.
  12. We did a braid mono experiment a few years ago in winter cold clear water. 6 people in 3 boats. 2 of us used braid with no leader while the other 4 used mono. 9 out of 10 days I can beat all but one of the people using mono but that day I got a butt waxing that still has my hiny shiny. Since then I have been using a leader on any slow moving bait. I have tried every knot that I have ever heard about and had failures at the knot with all of them except the Alberto's knot. It has worked flawlessly for me for over a year. I have it on 8 setups right now. It is small and need no glue. http://www.stripersonline.com/Pages/Articles/article_arby_albertos_knot.shtml
  13. I built a storage box 3 rd pedestal placement for my Champion several years ago. I made it from Advantech. It even has a wax impregnation that prevents rain from damaging or infiltrating the surface.
  14. More costly: Gloomis and St Croix Less costly: Fenwich HMG
  15. Those are one of the 3 jig heads that I fish. This year I am adding a 4th but the arkies are still in their boxes and will b used a lot.
  16. Use the 3 deep cycles for tmotor and one of the for cranking. Bigfoot has been doing it that way with a Merc 200 EFI for lots of years with no problems what so ever. Wear your life jacket till you get used to it.
  17. Hooks--Shorty's Lead--anywhere I can hospitals (radio active med. containers), remodelers from old shower floors, tire shops, printing shops, etc Skirts--fishing skirts.com by the 100 ct. Weedguards-- Do-It Powder--Pro Tech by the pound
  18. I just built one for $30. I got all the parts at Lowe's in the plumbing section and the pump and a tube of silicone at Wal Mart. I have enough 3" pvc pipe for 15 cups but only have made 5.
  19. Marine Goop at walmart is supposed to be good for wg. I always use Loctite super glue gel in the squeeze side bottle.
  20. Like stated pay attention and keep plenty of stopping room and don't use overdrive. My wife pulled my 21' glass boat all over mid America with a Ford Windstar van while I was pulling the 5th wheel.
  21. If my memory is correct, you will be doubling your time. It would be on the lesser battery if wired in series.
  22. Does the wind matter. To me yes it is the most important factor in the way I do most of my fishing. If the wind ain't blowin' I ain't goin' except for night fishing. That is why I ride in a big old glitter sled with a strong tmotor.
  23. When I slow roll a spinnerbait I don't want it to touch the bottom so I use one with #5 and #7 blades, usually Colorado Copper.
  24. I found rod wrap at BPS catalog outlet for $1.88@ and bought a bunch. I liked it but it didn't wear well and was always dirty. So I got to looking around and ran across this stuff at Harbor Freight Tool Sales. I really like it.
  25. The whole place merits attention IMO. One year Steve Holland, Charlie Campbell and I took 8 bass over 7# out of JH in a couple of weeks.
