  1. I have a 14' 6" v hull boat. I live on a small lake and leave the boat in the lake. I had serious problems with my cover last year and it was a pain whenever it rained, not matter what I did my cheap cover would collect water. I just had a generic cover last year. This off-season I am modifying it a bit and need it to not collect a ton of water. Any suggestions on where I could find a cover to actually fit snugly and not let water collect in boat? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
  2. Hey Guys, You all have been a great help so far and I have another question. I moved onto an electric motor only, relatively small lake. I am looking for a boat that I could fish with 2-3 people in it. I have two boats I am considering. I am on a very small budget. I have already bought padded chairs, 55lb thrust transom motor, fish finder, etc. I am just looking for a boat (I don't really want a trailer cause I have no space and boat will stay in the lake at my house). One option is a 15 ft 1985 Starcraft aluminum boat (white and black boat below) that is in good shape, has padded seats (so I can return mine) and overall looks good. He wants $750 with the trailer (which is in good shape as well). Other option is a 16 footer that has what looks to be an old Mercury 9.8 hp motor (see picture), old bow mount 30 lb thrust foot pedal trolling motor (not sure its value but does work), and modded flipping deck for only $550. No trailer and the boat is much more dirty/beat up than the other. I am torn between the two. See the pics below and let me know your thoughts. I think both are unpassable deals just trying to make the right decision here! Also if I bought the one with the Mercury outboard any relative idea of what that would go for (if it did work or if it didn't)? Thanks for your help! Need to decide today! And also a trailer in good shape what does that go for, holds the 15 foot boat? Just curious the range.
  3. Hey guys so I’m buying a boat with an Evinrude 6hp outboard from I think the 70s. I have no use for it since I’ll be solely fishing a electric motor only lake. Can you give me a rough estimate of what it’s worth? Just not at all familiar with outboards. Thanks! Below is pic (not of exact motor but same model).
  4. Alright so I started looking and I think I’ve found a great deal on a 14ft alumicraft utility boat (much older than picture but that style). That should be much more stable and probably could fit 3 from time to time right?
  5. Gotcha. So to further this, I will probably look for another boat either way, an aluminum boat most likely. What size would you guys recommend and what style to be best for the 2-3 people? And smaller lake where I don’t really need to worry about transporting it?
  6. Hey Guys, I have posted on here recently and had a question for you guys. I recently moved onto an electric motor only lake. It is a private lake that is relatively small. So don't need to worry about boat traffic. Sometimes gets windy up here but again lake isn't big so waves are never too large. I recently was gifted an old (but great shape) 1232 jon boat that I plan on using. I recently purchased a 55lb thrust trolling motor, chairs, etc. I have 2 questions: 1. Do you think the 1232 will support me and my father fishing with trolling motor, battery, and equipment? The boat I got has no id so weight limit isn't known. I know it may be tippy, but if we stay seated or just one of us stands do you think it will work? Or do you guys think its too risky? 2. If you lived on a small electric motor only lake where you wanted a small bass boat that could fit 2 (maybe 3) people and was cheap what would you prefer in terms of style and size? I would think a jon boat or something similar but I would not be transporting it and it would just stay on our shore. I just want some experienced answers so I know what I should be looking for in an upgrade at some point that will work and be sturdier and that I can use my current equipment in! Any help would be appreciated!
  7. Yeah, now I’m thinking this may not work. Haven’t had a chance to get out on it yet but I do plan on having 2 people in it at once. And I figured out I was miscalculating width for beam. Actual metrics is 1230. The boat was given to me so I want to make it work but now I feel I shouldn’t really invest anything into it. Seems like it may be just too small. Do you guys agree?? Then with my next question realistically what can I get a wider used job boat for? Maybe 14+ length? Cause now I’m itching to get one but limited on funds.
  8. People have canoes and stuff but almost everyone has a pontoon. Don’t see many small fishing type boats.
  9. Actual area does it pretty windy. Lakes exact size not sure, but big enough where there can be some waves. How much could I really sell a boat for that is super old? Again, my biggest fear is doing all this stuff to it then having it not work well on the water. I guess I could try it out first out there, but really wanted to get the project started!
  10. Great info guys. My boat will likely not be moved since I live on the lake. My initial thoughts were to put on some chairs, floor the bottom as mentioned above, then just make a little extension the front to have as underneath storage that I guess someone could stand on but I would assume that would be pretty unstable. I also would just put a cover on the back little portion to cover the battery and stuff. Ive been reading a lot lately but have seems a bunch of different thoughts. What are your recommendation on plywood size?
  11. Question for you guys. Just moved onto a private lake that is electric motor only. I was gifted an extremely old jon boat 12 footer, about 40 inches wide. I want to paint it and rig it to be my bass boat. My one concern is the height of the boat in the middle is only 12 inches. Seems like pretty small sides. Is that normal? Will it be okay on a medium size lake? I just don’t want to start doing modifications to it then come to find it’s not going to work. Let me know your opinions!
