  1. I can’t speak on behalf of the rods but really enjoyed my slx reel last year. With that said if you’re a Daiwa guy I also enjoyed my Tatula ct. As far as a rod I say your best off going somewhere you can put them in your hand preferably with a reel you own or want to buy and see how it feels as everyone’s opinions vary, but having handled (not owned) both shimano slx and Daiwa aird x I see why the Daiwa gets so many recommendations. If you have a bass pro shop near you there spring classic is coming up and you can trade in your unwanted reels and rods on new gear.
  2. I have used my carbonlite 2.0 7’-0” med power-fast action combo for everything you just described for the past 2 years and it is everything you’re thinking it’s going to be?? I also used mine for lipless rattlebaits between 3/8 -5/8 and I really enjoy it for that.
  3. Perfectly explained. As a blue collar father of two who assists coaching youth football in the summer early fall my time on the water is limited. As such I try to pick gear that is functional, fairly priced an built to last a reasonable amount of time. Nothing against anyone who uses and enjoys higher quality/enthusiasts level gear for which there are many including on this site. I’m not trying to equate my Abu Revo x with my Daiwa Tatulas and certainly not my $35.00 Piscifun and KK reels with even my Abu but hey I knew what I was getting. One of the reasons I grabbed the carbon x reels was a favorable review on it at *** and I’m glad I did as it meets “my “ criteria as stated above. I really enjoyed as I always do the opinions/recommendations this thread has brought about which are as varied as the members on this site. Again looking forward to hearing your impressions when you receive it. Best of luck.
  4. You’re welcome ? Please let me know what you think of it when you receive it. I don’t see a lot of opinions either way on here about their products and I at least have been pleased so far. And hey I’m always looking for a good product at a fair price.
  5. You can take a look at the Piscifun carbon x 500. It’s 5.1 oz $65.99 and you can get 15% off if you sign up for their newsletter. I have both the 1000 & 2000 sizes bought and used last year and although I can’t speak for their longevity I can say they are extremely smooth and as well put together on paper at least to much more expensive reels. I do have their top of the line baitcast reel and have been using it for several years with no issues. You can also find their products on Amazon with no issues returning it if you’re unsatisfied.
  6. I also have a couple reels from years past that should/could be shelved but due to sentimental value I just find myself buying new gear to fish alongside the old?. P.S would love to see a picture of the Ryobi, there is a thread on here dedicated to showing off the old/older stuff. If your interested search “you guys like the old stuff” “bulldog 1935” is a wealth of knowledge as well as many others here and there are some truly awesome pics on that thread. Also if I’m not mistaken debo did a you tube video on one of those reels.
  7. I’m not one who feels attacked by any member on this site? I was blessed with thick skin from growing up with my older brother and his friends and a father who loved the ancient art of debating?. As I’ve stated before I’m all about patiently waiting for the right price on my gear.
  8. I’m definitely not going to argue that point, but I usually wind up with bps gift cards so I figure why not? I’m all about shopping around for the best price/bargain. Bought a Daiwa Tatula type R on clearance late last year for $100.00 can’t wait to use it this year. Same reel as my Cabelas Arachnid I bought several years ago when they were clearing them out for $99.99. Again with gift cards I might as well get some lures at least. Also grabbed a bps panfish elite rod last year which I’m pleased with. I’m certainly not a bps fanboy by any means and certainly don’t like corporate monopolies on anything. I used to buy Cabelas house brand hunting boots for work as a carpenter now truck driver but since bps took over Cabelas doesn’t receive much of my business.
  9. Although it’s not my cup of tea my wife is really into “Legos” as such she has shown me what some of the boxes alone are worth ?. Crazy to me but hey to each their own. I couldn’t agree more with this, but I’m a little ocd with my fishing gear?
  10. Although I don’t have any experience with the Patriot series of rods, they felt nice in hand when I looked at them. As a bonus I read someone on here thinks the blanks are made by St.Croix which is what you’re leaning towards anyway. I’m pleased with my 7’-0” carbonlite 2.0 casting rod they aren’t micro guides more of a in between size.
  11. I haven’t looked at Sierra Trading Post in awhile ,assuming that’s who you are referring to. Bought a couple fishing items from there including a rod a few years ago, well packaged and shipped on their end. Was looking at some live target goby soft baits but got them from Dicks toward the end of last season. Almost pulled the trigger on a St.Croix legend glass rod last year only had a one year warranty as I recall but kicking myself in the rear end for not pulling the trigger on that one.
  12. Hello from Illinois ?
  13. I’m partial to throwing cranks (no deep divers) on a Lews 7’-3” TP1 med hvy mod fast action. It’s 2 years old so I’m not sure about the newer model and it’s certainly not the best rod even in Lews lineup, but hey it works for me. Although I’m not in the position it sounds to me like you might want to look into site sponsor Delaware Valley Tackle for a custom build. Good luck and happy rod shopping.
  14. Last years bps cranking stick 7’-3” hvy power fast action. First composite rod and I couldn’t be happier using it.
  15. Thank you both for the quick responses?? Also thank you to bulldog1935 for the recommendations on handles. I have 2 cheap reels a Piscifun Spark and a Kast King royal legend II that I would like to swap handles on at a low cost. I will be surfing the internet tomorrow as my birthday is coming soon ?
  16. I feel your pain my man?
  17. It truly saddens me to see what people are capable of doing. If you’re not happy fishing where a certain type of fish species dwells find another lake ? It drives me nuts that people think they’re smarter than the people who manage these lakes for a living,a meager one at best who are generally very passionate about the work they do.
  18. Congratulations ??
  19. Not sure where your at but bass pro will be having there spring sale soon. I was lucky enough to grab a carbonlite 2.0 combo a couple years ago for $120.00. Bass pro has many options on multiple combos.
  20. Mind if I ask what the company name is on E-Bay for the handles? Also do they come with the cork knobs?
  21. I just received an E-Mail from sportsman’s outfitters they’re having a Presidents’ Day sale with 25% off on Dobyns rods.
  22. Although I don’t use round reels that is definitely one nice find you have there. ??
  23. Congratulations to you?? Awesome bass.
  24. That definitely stinks. I bought a carbonlite 2.0 combo a couple years back for $120.00 during the spring sale, very happy with that purchase. Definitely a shame it costs so much to ship from Tackle Warehouse.
