  1. I will say as someone who likes to stay in the lower to midrange price point, I have Kastking (very low end) and Piscifun (mid price) reels and I’m happy with both brands. I’m of the mindset you get what you pay for in all facets of life and as long as you don’t expect $200.00 quality out of a $35.00 reel (Kastking Royal Legend II)you should be happy. Conversely I have a Daiwa CA80 that I paid $65.00 for and I’m totally impressed. Also although I’ve not purchased, bulldog1935 continues to recommend “Tica” spinning reels which look to be a fantastic buy when comparing similar reels in the same price point. Eventually I will pair down my cheap/mid range collection to a handful of good high end rods/reels but until then I’m enjoying my cheap/midrange collection ?. P.S when I do I will be relying on this site for guidance ?
  2. I just posted some photos in “latest catch pics” thread. It’s a retention pond not sure of the size but for sure under 2 acres. The bass are small but feisty and the bluegill grow relatively big. My most productive lure there is a roadrunner bare head 1/16-1/8 ounce tipped with a Berkeley gulp alive minnow in 3” size on a 1/8 ounce head either green or orange. When the fish have attacked the 3” enough to not hold onto the roadrunner head I cut the head off and use the body until it’s too short for the 1/8 ounce head and then use the body (re-dipped in gulp sauce) on a 1/16-1/32 ounce head on my light or ultralight rods. This is my go to if I’m struggling to get a bite.
  3. Thank you for searching them up?? I just went through my tackle bag and realized I’m down to 4 of them?. Going to check a couple local shops but will definitely order direct to grab a few more.
  4. Got out myself for a bit today. Couple small bass and here’s a few of the better bluegill. If I’m not mistaken ? as I’m sitting here thinking they might be blue fox spinners? All I know is they produced some big gills when a mepps or other brands wouldn’t for some reason.
  5. Can’t for the life of me remember the name of this lure but my brother bought me a 6 pack of these one year for my birthday. Those little buggers have saved more than one outing.
  6. Good evening gentlemen, finally got some free time?. Hit the local retention pond, here’s the results?. Bass weren’t too cooperative, but the bluegill were in a mood. Here’s a couple of the better ones.
  7. I’m totally loving his channel?. Also I’m 52.
  8. First off sorry for your lost combo. I’m a fan of the BPS carbonlite 2.0 casting combo I have and also my 1500 size Carbonlite 2.0 spinning reel. Best of luck and keep us updated.
  9. I have a 6’-6” premier light power fast action. Full grip 2 piece that I really like for pond fishing. I’ve been looking for an excuse to replace it with the same specs in split grip which I really like but d**n if my rod ain’t perfect for small cranks - in line spinners and anything light with treble hooks. Thinking you’re going to enjoy ?
  10. congratulations
  11. I purchased a Okuma TCS A 7’-3” heavy casting rod during the Black Friday sale last year and I’m really impressed. Sensitive blank, fuji guides soft enough in the tip to launch a frog with enough backbone to pull them out. I’ve thrown a Berkeley Choppo 110 with no issues as well. Can’t speak for long term use but for $150.00ish it’s worth looking at. Rated for 1/4-2 oz as well.
  12. Hoping to do some pond hopping tomorrow, I’ll keep you guys posted. Love this thread??
  13. My thoughts are if you know it’s unusable or garbage toss it. If it’s questionable I agree with seeing about a rod/reel repair shop maybe you can get a couple bucks towards your nonprofit and everyone benefits. If the gear is useable but low end (not worth the parts) reach out to a boys and girls club i.e ymca, church group who might only go fishing once or twice a year. Good luck.
  14. Although I’ve not personally used them, the Kastking compass telescoping rods get good reviews even on this site. They’re $55.99 for the combo on Amazon.
  15. I bought a Lews “Hank Parker” signature series 6’-10” med. power casting rod from Wal-Mart $40.00, wonderful rod. I only have experience with one Denali rod a “Fission” series rod which I’m actually quite impressed with. I know it’s not a great response but for $40.00 I think the Lews is hard to beat, good sensitivity and very well built.
  16. I realize this is an old thread but I love the ingenuity/ examples?? Here’s my contribution made from dumpster diving/ politely asking some contractors working in my subdivision. Also a photo of my favorite store bought rod & reel holder.
  17. LMAO ?. I’ve come to realize both myself and my wife are hoarders to an extent ( I still have a cabinet of 80-90’s era motorcycle & fishing ? magazines) even though I never got the bike?. I keep justifying my purchases to the BOSS ? by saying when I retire they will all be used. Good luck hooking into the “one” that breaks your frog rod?.
  18. I sometimes feel like I’m more interested in collecting rather than fishing ?. I have way too many combos but yet every time I take my dogs for a walk (daily) I justify every one and sometimes talk myself into upgrading (purchasing) one more rod/reel to complete the arsenal. This is why I couldn’t respond to the “if you could only have 1 combo” thread?.
  19. Here’s my contribution to this post. A 2006 5’-6” bionic ultralight, a 6’-6” bionic med power I won at a local fishing show and a performance series rod I bought (same year) with a 1000 size bps pro qualifier reel ( still love and use this reel) from a local newspaper ad. I have a balance kit/cap on the 6’-6” from bps that I really like. The performance series rod was my attempt at creating a split grip handle which I’m actually happy with ?
  20. So line, reel and rod are irrelevant?
  21. I know this will ruffle some feathers but the Piscifun Carbon X is light and a fraction of the price. Also has triple disc carbon washers. Just saying ?
  22. Nice looking combo ?? Love the “In God We Trust” logo. Although I don’t need it now I’m going to take a look at the rod because of this.
  23. Bass pro shop Carbonlite 2.0 combo right at $180.00. I have a 7’-0” med combo and it is one of my favorite do it all combos. Reel has dual braking system, comes right or left retrieve 6.8:1 or 7.5:1 retrieve speeds. Rod has Winn grips which I really like, Fuji fazlite guides and it’s all backed up with a great warranty.
