  1. Mitchell is also owned by Pure Fishing.
  2. I know these reels don’t receive a lot of love but check out the Piscifun Carbon X. I have two and I’m very pleased with mine. I’m also very fond of anything Daiwa and I’m planning on grabbing a Legalis LT. Bulldog 1935 highly recommends “Tica” which are available online, they have one called “Galant spin X” in 2000 size that is within your budget. I should add you should stay away from Piscifuns lower end reels, I have one (bait cast) and although it was cheap definitely not built to last.
  3. You say tomato…….. I think you know the rest?
  4. Congratulations on your promotion and to your son for catching that beautiful fish.??
  5. Wondering if anyone knows if they’re still making the Revo X winch? I really enjoy mine and was hoping to add a second.
  6. Congratulations ?? Looking forward to seeing your next personal best .
  7. Congratulations on your win??
  8. Although I hold mine the same as @northern basser, I’m going to have to try your way next time I get out. Although I’m not sure how it will work with my 1000 size reels.
  9. Went out for a few hours late morning today, rough go of it but managed a handful of fish. 1 nice crappie, no pic sorry. Caught these guys on a 1/32 oz boot tail.
  10. Went out today from 9:30-1:00 today, it was tough. Water was stirred up (think pea soup color) from yesterday’s storms. Tried a spinnerbait, square bill and a tube skunked. Thankfully I was close to home and went and grabbed 2 ultralights, tried Berkeley gulp alive minnows and maggots plus crappie nibbles and nothing, bluegills were more interested in my float and bobber stop strings. Heard serious commotion about 50 yards from where I was fishing walked over and saw 2-3 inch bluegill on a rock pile. Threw this boot tail out and thankfully caught a few most not worthy of a picture but a nice crappie, bluegill and this bass. Didn’t get a pic of the crappie.
  11. As an owner of Kast King’s Royal Legend 2, Piscifun’s Spark and their Saex Elite bait cast reels the Carbon X is more in line build wise with the Saex Elite than the Spark.
  12. As far as your ultralight spinning I would go with a Piscifun Carbon X 500.I have a 1000& 2000 size and they are really nice. I believe they’re making the 500 size in some of the others in the lineup also. As far as line I’m in agreement with MN Fisher, or try Kast king mono I’ve got 4lb mono on 2 of my ultralights (one of which is the Carbon X 1000) 500 was not available and is marketed as a ice fishing reel and am enjoying it, it reminds me quite a bit like Trilene XL. Lastly I’m really enjoying my BPS panfish elite rod, a bit higher than you’re looking to spend but if you can catch one on sale they’re nice imho. Good luck.
  13. I’m not sure if these are still available ? The guide gear one was the most recent, it’s been a couple years and I believe I found it on sportsman’s warehouse. It allows me to carry five rods with reels attached up to 7’-6” long with the caveat being there’s no hard protection but they have individual slots so no banging into each other and the Sherpa lining isn’t quite as nice as the 3 combo holder from ready rig. Good luck and hope this helps.
  14. I bought a first gen Tatula Type R for $99.00 last year new in the box. Also as far as budget reels I’ve got a Daiwa CA80 I paid $65.00 pre tax with free shipping off Amazon, I have no experience with the Caius B but I do love my SLX. I’m seriously thinking about upgrading 1 maybe 2 reels to Fuego CT’s for next season.
  15. Although I never bought /used one I’ve long admired the same platform myself. I just started getting back into fishing when the Daiwa Sol came out. I’ll agree with skunkmaster-k those reels look amazing.
  16. Check out the Shimano lineup. Although I only use a SLX it’s a very comfortable/compact frame with good line capacity. My Tatula 100 is also compact compared to my Tatula CT. And I own a Abu Garcia Revo X that is also compact as is the whole Revo lineup. Good luck in your search.
  17. Congratulations ?? She’s a beast??
  18. For me it’s my way of relaxing. Before I lost my older brother it was our time to laugh and stay connected. I don’t get much free time now and I’m not complaining as my son as did my oldest son had and still plays football every Saturday which I coached in both their little league years (he’s currently a freshman), my daughter was a competitive swimmer and along with having a great job that unfortunately keeps me busy spring through fall. I have 3 kids who never found the enjoyment in fishing which is ok by me as they along with my wife continue to feed my personal bait monkey with the understanding that when time for me frees up I’m going to put all my gear to good use. ?
  19. Go to the forums section look for the header marked more topics. It’s right under other fish species.
  20. You will be surprised how fast and fun it is to build a collection if you’re patient. I’m by no means a rich man but watching for sales and good deals including on this flea market yields great results. I’ve yet to pay retail on any of my gear.
  21. I appreciate the suggestions for reels, but both the zillion and bantam are a bit higher than I’m looking to spend at this time. For the rod and applications I’m looking to use it for I know I can buy another revo x in a 5.4:1 ratio. My other option is to buy any left hand reel in my price range in a 6.?:1 ratio and slow down my retrieve but that’s not what I am looking to do. It’s not so much that a reel such as a Tatula has critical features as much as I was looking to see if it would be cost effective. If memory serves me correctly Daiwa used to offer the Tatula in a 5 speed ratio but only in right hand retrieve and I’m using left hand reels.
  22. Thank you all for the replies? I’m really enjoying the answers and reasons being given. The reels I’m more or less considering are a Abu Garcia RevoX and a Daiwa CA80. I love both reels and realize they aren’t top of the line but I really enjoy both. I’m just curious more than anything about the cost effectiveness vs selling them and buying something higher end.
  23. I figured the Japanese domestic market would be mentioned but I’m more curious if it would be cost effective to achieve on a lower priced reel even if it were purchased second hand like on our flea market. I know lower gear ratios aren’t very popular anymore but I’m looking for a low profile reel with a 5:? gear ratio. Lews offers a 5 speed reel but only in right handed model if I’m missing out on any other manufactures please let me know.
  24. As the title suggests I’m curious about the opinion of everyone here. I’m going to replace a reel for next season on a rod I’m going to use for smaller crank baits. I’m really happy with my Daiwa Tatula reels as I like the braking system. I’m curious if it would be worth or possible to swap out a fuego gear set for a lower 5.?:1. I currently enjoy using a Revo X winch for my mid to larger crank baits and have no problem buying another one as I don’t know of any other low gear ratio reels in the mid priced offerings in left hand retrieve other than the Kast king reel(budget priced) I’m looking to replace. Please keep in mind as I’ve stated before I’m not comfortable tearing down and rebuilding the reel myself.
