  1. Not sure if you made your purchase yet but if you’re not in a hurry you may want to check out this Lews rod and read the description on the Lews website. It sounds like it’s exactly what you’re after.
  2. I’m considering myself lucky this year as I’m not really searching for anything just casually looking. For what it’s worth (not much I know) I came across a favorite “Lit” reel for $30.00 which is by far cheaper than anywhere else still available at “Dicks Sporting Goods” I grabbed one along with a “Soleus” reel no longer available after putting a Shimano “Caius B” combo in my cart Wednesday night only to find it removed and sold out on Thursday. Again I’m looking to replace 2 reels for casual fishing so I’m not in need of Daiwa/Shimano quality.
  3. If you’re truly sticking to budget rods check out the 13 fishing defy black rods $59.99 retail price. I handled them in store and they feel very nice.
  4. I own a Lews med hvy rod rated 1/2-1-3/8, it’s a true moderate action so I feel it can handle the low end but as far as anything 1oz and upward not for me to try out.
  5. Not trying to talk you out of your rod choices as I own neither model line let alone anything Megabass but I think fish wizard brings up some valid points as far as warranty’s. Although most of my rods are mid priced at best I have a St. Croix premier that I broke while being careless and their warranty was painless to say the least. I’ll also add Dobyns receives a ton of praise for their warranty program as well as their performance. Both companies as well as many others offer enthusiast level rods with much easier to navigate warranties in my humble opinion.
  6. I didn’t think it would cause any issues, more of curiosity thing than anything? With that said I’m pretty sure I want to try Suffix advance as I’m fond of the monofilament but curious as to what everyone else’s budget/cheaper recommendations are. Pretty sure you’re happy with seaguar red label MN Fisher. Lastly I’m thinking spinning rod no more than 8 lb for Ned/light crank baits.
  7. Good evening all, I’m thinking of purchasing a spool of fluorocarbon for next season and it got me thinking about comments on using line conditioner. I’m not in the market to purchase Seaguar Tatsu so please don’t recommend that, my question is does using line conditioner effect the abrasion resistance therefore negating the whole reason to use fluorocarbon in the first place. I apologize if this topic has been covered as my search came up empty.
  8. Thoughts and prayers for your wife. Really enjoying watching the progress on the boat??
  9. Well so much for my previous comment ?. I’m just glad I have other options as far as tackle shops in my area.
  10. Although I’ve never been, I would go just to take a look around. You never know what’s on sale at any given time. I have access to both Cabelas and Bass Pro but for me they’re the same store since the buyout. I found my favorite rod & reel carrying case/bag through Sportsman’s Warehouse which neither of the other two carried.
  11. I’m going to suggest you check out the 7’-3” MH moderate Lews TP1X, I have the previous version of this rod and I feel it’s exactly what you’re looking for. It’s 100% graphite with the action of a composite rod. As a bonus it’s only $99.00 retail which I feel is a bargain.
  12. Although I’m partial to split grips, fell in love with the look after seeing and purchasing a Mitchell Fulcrum rod (endorsed by Roland Martin) which I still own and use?, I own both split and full grips in Winn, Cork & Eva and love them all equally. But nice to see a rod builder chime in with an explanation.
  13. Looking forward to hearing your review .
  14. I’m using a 6’-3” light powered x-fast action rod with a 1500 size reel spooled with 7lb sea knight monofilament. I’m using both a z- man 1/10 oz and shur set 1/16 oz Ned heads. I would stay with the St. Croix with monofilament combo and if need be power up on the rod if necessary. I’ve had good luck also with the Lunker Hunt pre rigged finesse worm and pre rigged craws, the heads on those are 1/4 oz but I use the same setup, bumping up to a 6’-6”med power moderate action rod with straight 10lb Daiwa J-braid if the weeds are problematic (summer only) usually.
  15. Wow! Those are some real beauties there.
  16. I think for now I’ll just support those that are more talented than myself ?. For what it’s worth (not much I know) your ties are definitely ? looking like they will produce for sure.
  17. Went out today to try a couple light jigs, cold as all get up but worth the hour I was out there ?. BTW the little guy put up one hell of a fuss and I’m hoping he continues to grow and I bump into him in a few years?
  18. Went out this afternoon for about an hour, all my fingers could take in this weather. Although none were big I’m pretty happy just being out there?
  19. I finally got out to try out 2 out of the 3 jigs today, I’m going to post some pics in the “latest catch pics thread”, I was having good luck and loving the zonkers jig. Although I’m not quite ready to take up tying flies/jigs the pictures on here along with my results are making me think about it?
  20. There is a thread I believe the title is “so you guys like the older stuff” it has some killer pics of older gear. It was started by bulldog 1935 so maybe he can correct me and direct you and myself to the proper title. I’m no collector nor do I fish with vintage gear but it’s sure cool to see it on here.
  21. Not knocking anyone who likes and uses them but I personally am happy not having an anti reverse switch. I’ve been fishing on and off for 40 plus years and have never once turned it off and back reeled any fish, kudos to those of you that do but I’m happier without it. I’ve put my two cents in for reel recommendations but at $49.00 the Pfluger is one heck of a deal along with the Daiwa regal lt at $60.00 in my opinion.
  22. Those are some beauty’s right there. That pike brings back some wonderful memories of my childhood family then guys vacation to Minnesota.
  23. I’m looking to up my square bill game next season, after seeing this I’m realizing you really set the bar quite high?
  24. Although I have a size 1500, I purchased mine this spring (bps spring classic) on sale and have used it quite a bit this year for pond bass and bluegill. I know others have said it’s a Daiwa “Exceler” in white color which has favorable reviews. Although I’m not a huge fan of the bps business model I’ve never had any issues with there products or the return policy but then again I don’t fish as often as many members on here. Lastly I’m a believer that within the first couple of months fishing any rod/reel you should feel the defects/problems with the product.
