  1. This has been the best post season I can remember in a long time?
  2. Ok so my son purchased a 13 fishing fate black rod in medium power, I’m thinking about exchanging it for a medium light power to be used for Ned rigs. Anyone else who has experience with the 2 rods? I’ve read through the Ned rig setups post and it seems pretty evenly split between med light and med rods. I’m currently using a x-fast light powered and I have a couple medium rods but I don’t have a med light. I feel like I know the answer but I’m afraid of the med light being too moderate in action which I’m not looking for.
  3. I’m going to throw the Daiwa Tatula 100 in the suggestion box. It’s compact and has one of the best braking systems in my opinion. Another option would be to wait and see about the the Tatula 80. I do not own the Lews mentioned but own an Abu and a bps reel based on the Lews Lfs platform and find them both very compact and comfortable.
  4. My wife informed me a wee bit ago that the news of Tom Brady’s retirement may be a wee bit premature ?. Seriously that’s crappy as it shifts the focus from tomorrow’s games which I’m definitely looking forward to ?
  5. As my wife sits here sobbing (just kidding) my son has informed us of the news of Tom Brady retiring. As a lifelong Chicago Bears fan the only thing I need next is to hear Arron Rodgers is heading to the AFC division and my weekend will be complete?. All kidding aside it will be sad not seeing Tom Brady surgically pick apart opponents but as much as I respect and enjoy watching Arron Rodgers I seriously would be happy seeing him in the AFC.
  6. Maybe you guys didn’t understand the title of the thread or maybe you guys didn’t read his post? No offense meant.
  7. Go to you tube and search up my recommended combo, you should come across a gentleman goes by the handle “Family Budget Fisherman” he gives the combo a review. I haven’t finished watching this particular review but I have watched plenty of his reviews and I personally feel he’s quite honest with his likes and dislikes.
  8. Did you ever try one of the recommendations? I’m interested to hear and see how it may have turned out. Also is that the PTC series rod?
  9. I hope I didn’t mislead anyone, as I said I personally have no issues with the reel whatsoever. I purchased mine for around $40.00 and read a bunch of bad reviews but I’m happy enough with mine.
  10. I forgot to mention I have a 13 fishing Creed LTE 2000 which received complaints about line getting under the spool but I had no issues with 8lb Daiwa j-braid last season.
  11. First off I’m right there with you as far as being a budget angler. For under $80.00 Daiwa offers the Legalis LT reels I don’t own one yet but will this spring. I know it’s not an aluminum body but it feels good. I spent a lot of my time fishing my Piscifun Carbon X reels (2000 & 1000) this past season and love them enough that I just purchased another one in 1000 size, composite body but zero flex under load. I have 6 different brands of spinning reels and if I were to use only one brand/model it would be these. As far as the Lews reels if the price is what you’re comfortable paying and you’ve felt them in store and are happy I say go for it.
  12. I know it’s a couple bucks over the limit but I’ve handled this combo in store and feel it could be what you’re looking for. It’s 7’-1” med power.
  13. I only used and still do the Revo X winch gen4 ?. I purchased it because it was the only left handed 5 speed reel I could find in my price range. I read of people having the side plate pop off during use but I’ve never experienced that particular problem, could be a palming issue. I really enjoy the reel and would definitely recommend it at the $99.00 price point.
  14. I’m going to respond the same way as I did to @Ravox with the beetle spin question. I’ll also agree with the above responses and as someone who enjoys ultralight fishing a ton @Deleted account hit it on the head as their are so many cool lures to try from the cheap but in my opinion highly recommended Creme lures available at your local Wal-Mart to really expensive Japanese imports which @bulldog1935 can show you. I picked up the Creme ultralight rattle trap 4 piece this past season and hit bluegill, crappie and bass on them. The first two pictures are the Creme lures I’m speaking of.
  15. Any idea what hen it will be available in the states? I was thinking about picking up a Tatula 100 or a CT to save a couple bucks but man this one really looks good.
  16. You can try to find Storm wild eye sculpin to match. I use the storm wild eye goby’s in 1/8 oz and the pond bass go crazy for them even though their aren’t any goby’s in the pond to the best of my knowledge.
  17. I’m with MN Fisher the 1-1/2 size seems to work good. You can also try Blakemore Road Runners or Bass Pro Shop stump jumpers in 1/32-1/8 ounce sizes. They come with marabou, plastic body trailers or my personal favorite no trailer just the jig head itself. I have good luck with a 1/16 ounce chartreuse head, no trailer which I put a Berkeley gulp or gulp alive minnow in 1”-3” on. Catches bluegill, crappie and bass when it seems nothing else will.
  18. ? That Daiwa combo is absolutely beautiful. A Ferrari in fishing gear in my humble opinion.
  19. I’m currently at 10 different brands soon to be 11, ranging from All Star to Wright & McGill. If I ever chose to pick one brand it would probably be Okuma for me as I feel they cover a wide variety in both actions and price points I’m comfortable paying. I will admit I’ve never tried, looked at but never pulled the trigger on higher end rods so my opinion might change then.
  20. It seems your fishing partner approves?
  21. I want to say thank you to everyone who has responded so far and to anyone who responds in the future. As you all probably know I’m limited as to how many likes/laughs I can hand out in a day. When I posted this last night I was hoping to get exactly what I’m receiving in responses from you all, from bulldog1935 with a technical response, A-Jay with a cool video (I follow you on YouTube) to Way2slow and Catt who much like Tom Cruise “feel the need for speed”, cheesey paraphrase I know?. Been following along with MN Fisher boat build and enjoying that as well as this is something I’m hoping to try in the future. I don’t know if I ever will own a boat but that’s what I enjoy most about this forum is the varied responses everyone is willing to share.
  22. I’m going to start by saying I’m not a boat owner and have never been. With that said my boating experience has consisted of being in a 14-16 foot? 3 bench seat aluminum v-bottom boat with a 9 horsepower outboard when I was 10-15 years old (52 now) and being on my in-laws 38 foot cabin cruiser (10 plus years ago. I’m not sure what the top end speed we hit in either vessel was as I didn’t pilot either but I’m sitting here watching an episode of “The Next Bite” and Gary Parsons is talking about doing 67 mph (I’m assuming) in a nitro zv21 with a Mercury Verado 400. I’m bringing this up out of curiosity after reading the post which I can’t remember the heading referring to coming close to hitting objects and if I’m remembering correctly someone saying they hit an alligator. This is not me being judgmental but more curious than anything, for those who haven’t seen the show the hosts fish up north and are generally on very large lakes including the Great Lakes so again its more my curiosity than anything else. If no one responds I completely understand.
  23. I’m going to try to get a 13 fishing defy black crank bait rod this year $69.99 comes in a variety of lengths to pair with a Kastking Royal Legend 2 5.4:1 casting reel $39.99. Although I wouldn’t recommend the Kastking for long term use or hitting trophy sized bass (I’m going to use it for ponds) I’m relatively happy with the reel for being a budget reel. I really like my Daiwa CA80 and plan on getting a CR80 (left hand high speed only) but the have a 6 speed in right handed which would hit your budget pre tax. Also will add I threw small- med square bills mostly with the reel.
  24. Exactly everything Lead Head says here sums up my opinion also.
  25. As of now the Tinley Park Fishing & Outdoor show is still on I believe ?. I’ll try to find more information when it becomes available and if I get a chance I’ll stop in at my local tackle shop, they should be able to tell me something.
