I recently purchased a (in transit) Shimano Miravel 2000 shallow spool for a 7’-1” 13 fishing medium light rod that I use for Ned rigs, it’s a 1000 size body with a slightly larger spool. I’m going to spool it with 8 lb braid. I feel like the 1000 size Stradic I have paired beautifully size wise with the 7’-1” rod but I’m not willing to move the Stradic from its current rod.

I bought a used Curado MGL late last year spooled it up with 10 lb big game and not being real familiar with Shimano’s gave myself an epic birds nest on the first cast 😬 by not setting the internal brakes and forgetting about the external adjustments🤬 stripped it and put it away until exactly one week ago when I re spooled it and nearly did the same thing until I realized I was forgetting to set the external dial/brakes after I set the internal brakes.

@Young Fisher I’m with @MediumMouthBass with a strike king bitsy swim jig available at Wal Mart. I always have one in what I would call peanut butter and grape jelly as I don’t remember the actual color name along with a bluegill colored square bill such as a strike king 1.0 or 1.5 and a Z-Man mini max chatterbait in a bluegill colored skirt. Those and a plain road runner in 1/16 ounce head and a Berkeley gulp alive minnow 3” are my go to favorites. Also don’t be afraid to buy the $1.00 spinner baits from Walmart in peanut butter and grape jelly color.

I was throwing this cheap eagle claw in-line when we had a short but nice warmup in February. I’m planning on grabbing a few nicer ones for the upcoming season.

I placed an order for a 2000 shallow spool Miravel on Friday night from JLS.

@ButchA First and foremost share a photo of your Mitchell 304. Also @bulldog1935 has quite a few pictures in a post which I’m drawing a blank on the title but it’s something to the effect of 🤔 “so you like the oldies” I know I’m screwing it up and don’t have time to search it so maybe bulldog can refresh my memory.

@Dan N I have a question for you, how would you describe the spool? As I’ve said I have a Royal Legend 2 that I enjoy being a 5 speed lefty which I’m not looking to replace with a high priced reel but man the spool literally feels like it will be crushed if I hooked into anything with weight or a hard charging fish such as as a northern pike. BTW I’m really digging the color match on the combo 😉

@MN Fisher I was certainly not suggesting buying any of the others just trying to reassure NorthernBasser that the frame size is identical if not extremely close in size which is why I also referenced the LFS for what it’s worth. Also why I said I’m seriously considering grabbing one at the price he found it at.

@NorthernBasser If you have any tackle shops that carry the Daiwa C-Series reels CC, CR it’s a Japanese version of the CA80 which I have and love. If you can’t find one of those it’s pretty much a Doyo platform reel pretty dang close in physical size and shape to a Lews LFS which I think everybody carries for you to compare the size to. As long as you realize it’s magnetic braking only no mag force I think at the price you found I may buy another 😉

@tcbass I’m in agreement with @Bigbox99 but with that said as long as you know what you’re getting into such as hard to find or zero support in getting replacement parts or service for the reel they’re a pretty good bang for the buck. I have 3 Piscifun Carbon X spinning reels and would definitely buy another as mine get used often and have given me zero issues for the past several years. I have a Piscifun Saex Elite casting reel that is an Ardent Elite reel with different colors and I was able to order a part through Ardent but again Piscifun said sorry they don’t offer parts. I had a Piscifun spark that was a inexpensive reel but got rid of it due to not being able to keep the tension set on the spool with it loosening up after a handful of casts and honestly I didn’t like the way it casted either because of having to set the tension high or get a backlash every time. I have a Kast King Royal Legend 2 casting reel that I keep thinking of getting rid of but it’s still with me. Mine is a 5 speed lefty which is why I still have it and at $43.00 currently I’ll say it holds its settings better than the Spark but it’s definitely built on a budget with the spool in particular being something I wouldn’t trust holding up to heavy or hard charging fish but ymmv. Finally I couldn’t agree more with @MN Fisher as the reel he’s referencing is a Daiwa CA80 which I have and love in a different color scheme.

We also have 3 dogs at my house and they get a treat when they go to the pen first thing in the morning. Our male gets a large milk bone biscuit and the 2 ladies get a medium milk bone biscuit. Years ago when we got our first German Shepherd my wife took her to training class and for a reward we used bil Jac liver treats.

@FishTax Unless you are absolutely opposed to purchasing from Bass Pro Shop all of these rods are available from 4’-10” to 6’-6” ultralight to medium.

@Aaron_H I’ve actually looked at their website way more than I should have and dang near pulled the trigger more than once 😬 I have the Seaguar/Tatula on a rod I use for Z-Man mini max chatter baits and 1/4 ounce swim jigs and really enjoyed it for what it’s worth.

@Aaron_H I’m with you on not being a fluorocarbon guy but I spooled a Tatula 80 with the Seaguar Basix (10) pound last season and I was pleasantly surprised with it. Give us an update when you try it out. It stinks that we don’t have any Academy stores by me although it may be a good thing 😉

@NorcalBassin This is what happens when a goose goes through the windshield at probably 55-60 mph after I stabbed the brakes as hard as I dared in the pouring rain. 2 of the dang things sitting in the middle of Interstate 57, when they rose they separated until the one turned to go with the other and met my windshield. The dang thing was half in my cab until it slid back out onto the road. I asked my boss if I could watch the in cab camera footage and he never would show me ☹️

@slonezp There’s quite a few kick butt husband and wife duos with 2 of my favorites being Pat Benatar/Neil Geraldo and Tedeschi Trucks band politics not withstanding.
