  1. I may need to drop to medium action , but i think the "just need to pop the tip to set the hook" has been my problem . I been setting the hook to hard
  2. 7' mh, same as I've always used on shakyhead, and I had a really good success rate with fluoro and copoly , rarely ever lost one. An definitely not sunfish as I've felt them all an seen a couple.
  3. Alberto knot , and it's doing great. My problem is when I set the hook I'll have the fish on a second or 2 then he's gone. The couple times they've not gotten off almost immediately they still ended up spitting it out Spinning gear. Thank you I will try just reeling into them an lifting up
  4. Yes Yes went from straight fluoro to braid to fluoro. I'm talking spinning gear 15 lb braid to 10 lb fluoro , throwing a shaky head. Sorry I shoulda been more specific. And thank y'all for the replies, I've never missed fish and had em get off like this before. First 2 or 3 you think ok bad luck streak, but after 4 or 5 you ain't doin something right
  5. Ok y'all so i resisted braid to fluoro until recently due to the extra knot, but i finally gave it a shot an love it, EXCEPT I AM LOSING FISH BADLY!!!! Is there anything y'all do differently hookset wise. Been using the technique the past 3 trips an have lost 2-3 fish every trip, actually I don't think I've landed one using braid to fluoro at all yet. I LOVE the casting distance and sensitivity , but if I can't get fish in the boat.....you know.
  6. Lol, I understand. Just wondering if there where any techniques that were better suited for a slower gear ratio besides deep cranking . since I posted this ive found out it's excellent for me to throw spinnerbaits on, being that I rarely burn em and mainly fish em slower I guess, but you catch a hell of a lot more if you learn techniques correctly , and the best gear to use for certain techniques and situations . and other than certain parts of the spawn they d--n sure don't go after anything on a rod an reel . Maybe if you're fishing a stocked farm pond or some BS like that.
  7. It is a Abu Garcia Revo X 5.4:1. I figured I'd use it deep cranking , just wondered if there were any other baits or techniques I could use it with.
  8. I always just measure them to check if they'd been a keeper in a tournament so I can estimate what my best 5 woulda been. If I catch one HAWG status I'll get it's girth real fast an use the formula , which is usually really really close.
  9. I've tried the braid to fluoro , and it does have advantages but just not enough for me to justify the extra knot between me and the fish. Clearly it works you see lot of pros using it especially with finesse techniques , but just a confidence thing with me I guess
  10. I know if you get a little cold snap , that'll back an off a little bit during pre spawn (just happened here) but probably not to 30' . I used a shakyhead to catch em then , but probably could have and should have practiced my dropshot then
  11. That's what I was thinking why not just use omniflex el cheapo if it's just filler Exactly what I was thinking of using Thanks for the info y'all.
  12. Lot of bassers have to budget , I know I do it is what it is. Luckily for me you can find quality stuff( well what I consider quality stuff used) . For example I grew up on Abu Garcia. I got 2 Revo sx reels for 45 bucks apiece in past couple years , just picked up a Revo X on a 7' MH veritas for 70 bucks. If I do purchase expensive gear new I have to wait on an overtime check or income tax, which is fine. Also 39.99 rods have improved VASTLY over the years for instance Lews IM8 speed stick , Berkley lightning rod, Abu gacia Vengeance are three 40 dollar rods I have and they're great . Shoot 5-6 years ago all my rods were stolen , March was coming on and I was in a fix , for around 65 bucks I went an bought 3 Berkley cherrywood rods an they worked just fine , still got one in the Arsenal today, matter fact the other 2 are in great shape STILL just don't use. If it puts fish in my 1,800 dollar bumblebee I'm gonna use it. No patience for brand bashers , ridiculousness really, who cares what somebody else is using . Unless maybe they're catchin em an you ain't lol
  13. Putting backing line on your reels is something I haven't tried yet , but seems like a good idea ? wise. I noticed everybody uses braid to do this , but being this line is never used could you not just use the cheapest line possible?
  14. Just tried Hi seas grand slam again. I had got some bout a month ago an hated it, but decided to give it another shot an pay close attention to taking my time with an wetting my line ( even though I thought I did 1st time) anyways I've had much better luck with this spool.
  15. May well take a step up. I can manage with the 7 DI for awhile an save up for a 9 or 10 SI. Is the Mega a pretty huge difference
  16. Called em mullberries if in not mistaken(the pontoon bridges). All three my great uncles served. One landed on Utah beach with 4th infantry , other 2 were fighting through that "soft underbelly" in Italy . greatest generation indeed
  17. Although it gets bashed alot for some reason , I've had great luck with P line fluoroclear
  18. Live in Jefferson city , 5 minutes from Cherokee an 15 minutes from Douglas. 35 minutes from ft Loudon but I'd rather take a beating as to fish that lake to be honest. It's hard for me to not go to Cherokee with it so close, but trying to hit some new water this year . May check out south holston, an of course would love to hit chic. We're definitely blessed with great bassin in the volunteer State GBO
  19. Well I finally upgraded my electronics a little , but I'm still only halfway where I want to be. I got a helix 7 DI up at the trolling motor, and although I don't know how to get the best out of it yet it's a huge upgrade from my last (hbird 197C). My next mission is to get a SI unit for the console . Any suggestions that won't break me? I know the gen3 birds are out , that's how I was able to get my 7 , it's a gen2. As of now my plan is to find a gen2 helix somebody who is upgrading wants to unload.
  20. Thanks for the feedback guys
  21. Sometimes tho that rapid peck peck peck is a big girl. Yes a lot of the time it's bluegill, but unless I know for sure fact that it's a bluegill I set the hook every time. Sometimes that bluegill peck ends up being a 4 lber
  22. Was just going to get some opinions from y'all on the best baits to throw for certain gear ratios. In particular just picked up a 5:4:1 revo, this is first baitcaster with this low of a gear I've had . I got three other abus that are 6:4:1 which is what I prefer , and look at as a kinda all around type. Also in the deal I picked this 5:4:1 up in I got a 7:1:1 , so basically I got one a little slower an one a little faster than I'm used to.
  23. Lol, amazing no TN bassers shared any info with you gator. Nah plenty awesome bass lakes in middle an east TN good luck an GBO
  24. I live in Jefferson city TN. I'm 5 minutes from Cherokee lake , 15 minutes from Douglas lake, 35 minutes from ft Loudon lake. And many other quality lakes close by. Welcome to bass heaven imo
  25. That is the key right there "selective harvesting". Understand completely on that , even though I just can't bring myself to keep em lol. More of what I was talking about was folks who just keep em all no matter what .
