  1. I want to thank everyone for their responses.Someone mentioned that you should measure how an organization is doing by the number of their members not the size of the magazine. That makes sense since Newspapers have less content because people use the internet more often. I want to make another point some cable providers have dropped channels such as the Outdoor channel and the Sportsmen channel. The reason they told me was that people do not like to see animals and fish being killed on television. I stream outdoor channels through a Roku.
  2. I just want to put this out there. The magazine is smaller in content and there have been "double month editions. It just doesn't seem the same.I just love being a member of this organization.
  3. I just want to put this out there Has anyone used these reels are they good or bad? they are light under 9 ounces and a fast 5;3 gear ratio and a 3 year warranty. Thanks in advance
  4. Thank you both for the above responses I figured out what to do. I mounted the reel on the rod then flipped the bail and turned the handle DUH and now the both work after of course I cleaned and oiled the way it says on Shimanos website,
  5. I have 2 of the above reels the 1000 and 2500 and I cannot seem to get their anti reverse working. I am going to try to clean and lube them the way it says on Shimanos web site. Both of these where purchased on Ebay. One the 1000 from a well known tackle store and the other was an Ebay store. I am also calling Shimanos North America number. The 1000 size is well past its warrenty but the 2500 size was purchased NIB last summer and I am sending in the warrenty card. Does anyone have any suggestions? thanks in advance .
  6. I recently purchased a st Croix premier 6.6 2 piece medium heavy spinning rod. I am just asking for some opinions for a 3000 size spinning reel. One tackle shop recommends on their web site the shimano saros but they are discontinued. I am thinking about the Penn clash or Quantum speed reel 30 size. thanks for the responses
  7. Can anyone give me any insight on why Shimano discontinued this series??
  8. Thank you for the input. I have had bad luck ever since I decided to move on from Penn since their spinning reels where starting to be made in china.First I tried Ardent made in USA spinning reels(one model was good, the other 2 models had issues),then I acquired 2 shimano symetres. Both are being put on ebay as parts reels did not last. They where also discontinued too. I am looking at the Pflueger supreme, diawa fuego,or shimano Nasci
  9. Thanks everyone for the input,I just joined this site and have found it to be very informative. It seems that if you want to buy a good spinning reel you have to spend at least a good chunk of change to get a new model that will last. The Penn model I mentioned will be put on an ugly stik to fish for catfish and carp in the Delaware river. I have had bad luck with other brands. I am going to lean towards Shimano or Diawa
  10. I just want to put this out there. Does anyone use any older series Penn,Diawa,Shimano spinning reels? I have a Penn 712z reel that only has to be cleaned and relubed. When I used this reel it was paied with a daiwa fiberglass 6.6 2 piece spinning, fiberglass rod that was discontinued about 25 years ago. I had great success with this outfit. I threw spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, big crankbaits, big rebel and rapala jerkbaits. also caught many bass on it too. One day I was fishing about 10 years ago and a fellow fisherman pointed out that I was using obsolete fishing gear. I thought about it then I got more"modern reels" None of them where built as well as this reel. I plan on using this with a 2 piece ugly stik gxe2 since I only fish from shore and do not use baitcasting gear. Also I have 2 friends who use shimano ultralight spinning reels that where built in the 80's and still going strong. It seems "old school gear seems built to last.
  11. It is the ardent s400-m. This reel model was the best spinning reel that Ardent made when they produced "made in USA" fishing reels.I have other reel shims that I will add plus I will tighten my roter nut.I also have one that is new in box,if this does not work I will use it as a parts reel. Thanks for the input
  12. I am getting my reels ready for the upcoming season,on one of my reels I noticed the handle did not seem to be working as well, and the rotar started to become wobbly. I took the reel apart and laid out all the pieces and cleaned them.I took out the schematice and noticed I was missing shims on the main gear. Could this be the cause of the problem?
  13. Thanks everyone for your input, I am going to follow a fellow members advice and take my rod to the bait and tackle shop and try different reels and pick the one that I feel best with. I have had bad luck in the last 5 years with spinning reels. First was the ardent spinning reels. The first one was good(s-400m) but the newer made in USA models had various issues.I am putting them on ebay and getting what I can get for them. Then I bought a shimano symetre 2500 fl,it did not last then shimano discontinued it.I am reading the various comments and they are available at my bait and tackle shop. again thanks I use it for bass fishing and also bait fishing(Hook and bobber anything panfish, bass perch ect. I put 10lb test mono on my reel when I use it.It is rated for 6 to 12 lb test mono,1/4 to 5/8 ounce lures
  14. I am just asking for some input.I have a st Croix premier spinning rod 6ft 2 pieces medium action. I am looking for a new reel this season, willing to spend up to 150 dollars. I am looking for a reel with proper care and maintenance that will last a few years
  15. I want to thank everyone for their input. The main reason I bought the reels was because of the made in USA and I wanted to support an American company. The first spinning reel the s-400m was a good reel(still in use) reel. Then the next series the s2500 and s2000 had various issues(parts did not match up) but they did have a great warrenty and excellent customer service. I do think I am going to move on to a more established reel manufacturer.
