  • About Me

    <p>
    My first fishing season where my main goal is to catch largemouth bass. But in reality, I'm probably going to end up catching panfish and rock bass.

  1. What is a good fillet knife to buy for someone? The person I have in mind is all about ice fishing. His typical catch is usually crappies and bluegills. Occasionally a northern pike. All he requested was a knife with a sharp tip. Your preferences and past experiences would also be a great help.t
  2. On Tuesday (6/25/19), I was fishing out on Cornell Lake. It was a somewhat sunny day, but very windy. The wacky rig was the only thing that got the fish biting. I'm still learning how to work the rig, but it gave me great results. Altogether, I only caught three bass that day for three hours on the water. What's a good lure, rig, bait is best to throw on a windy day? The water at Cornell Lake is clear and full of vegetation.
  3. Does color or no color really matter on a jig head? I can easily get access to paint markers to use. And I'm aware that the paint will chip if used on jigs.
  4. I purchased a Daiwa reel today. Picked it up and it was attached to an Eagle Claw rod. Got them together for $2. I'm more interested in learning more about the reel. It's an older model and can't find too much about the reel. I decided that posting about it here would probably be the easiest way to get information. (I'm sorry about having to put in links to show pictures of the reel. I had no other option because the files were too big to attach to the post. If the links fail and you can't see the images, let me know. I can find another way to get them for you to see.) https://ibb.co/xgBGLfp https://ibb.co/Sv8NHSn
  5. The Wisconsin weather is beginning to warm up, and garage sales are beginning to pop up. I'm interested in buying a spinning reel that has a gear ratio of 5:5:1 or higher. What are some things I should know about before buying a second-hand reel? What are some things I should look over before making a purchase?
  6. I have a cheap Shakespeare spincast rod and reel combo from Walmart that I have had for roughly five years, give or take. Now that I am older and a little bit more experienced and more interested in fishing, I want to know more and sometimes researching this myself leads to dead ends. My combo is used solely for the purpose of fishing panfish and the occasional bass. With my spin cast set up, I want to do more than the bobber, hook, and sinker set up. What are some great ways to set up a spincast? {I'd prefer setups for panfish over ones for trout.}
  7. The best way to describe Wisconsin water is tea-stained water. Being in northwest Wisconsin and that's how many lakes, streams, rivers, ponds, and other water sources are colored around here. With stained water, what's the best color for a plastic worm to buy? I currently have green pumpkin YUM Dingers and black and blue Mann's Jelly Worm.
  8. I've been trying to find the best knot to use to tie a crankbait. People are saying to use a Palomar, improved clinch, Trilene, or a uni knot. These are all great options, but I have two things that make this questionable: split rings and line type. My four crankbaits come with split rings, and I'm not removing the rings anytime soon. What are the best knots to tie crankbaits with monofilament and the best knots for crankbaits with fluorocarbon? Both lines are light and under 10-pound test.
