  1. There's one down the cove from me with 2 400hp engines to get to the spot first.
  2. Around the inshore water in Crystal River and Homosassa, FL I use 30 lb braid with a 20 lb fluorocarbon leader and throw plastic swimbaits and hard jerkbaits for trout and redfish. Water is 1-5'.
  3. My buddy called me @ noon and asked if I'd like to go fishing this afternoon and I said yes, I'll meet you @ the ramp in 1/2 hour. Most of my rods were in my boat, in the dock, so I grabbed a couple of rods with mono I had in the house. We worm fished most of the afternoon and I felt at a disadvantage with the mono worm rod. From now on I'll only use braid with a leader. I've been using braid with a leader for about the past year for worming and can feel the bite much better. We both caught several Alabama bass and he caught the biggest. It was the first time in a while I've been in a 60 mph boat, mine goes 25.
  4. Ask your dealer what is needed to block off the oil flow, buy it and mix your fuel. When my boat is on the trailer I'll put 3 gallons of gas in the tank then 8 oz of oil and keep doing it until it's full. That way it'll mix fairly well.
  5. I used to stand on the bow but getting older I have to brace myself or get to a bank with a tree to hold on to. #2 hit the bank and dig a hole.
  6. I used to fish from a 9' 32lb kayak in rivers and found an anchor the best way to land more fish. I've caught many 3 and 4lb Shoal and Alabama Bass from the kayak. Also removing the barb gets the hook in faster and easier.
  7. That's terrific, congratulations. I've been retired for a number of years and used to fish every day I could for a number of years and added them up for a couple of years with over 3000 bass a year plus stripers and others. I fished all year while you took months off, your feat is much more commendable.
  8. I carry a Frog Toggs poncho in my kayak. It covers my legs also in a downpour.
  9. https://www.outdoorlife.com/fishing/kill-more-largemouth-bass/ Pretty long.
  10. Last week.
  11. We used to have a trailer on the Manatee between the bridges and fished for them often. When the water gets colder go to the warmest water you can find, the back of inlets and canals usually and throw a swimbait or a saltwater spook. My buddy came down and he was deadly with a spook and outfished me 2 or 3 to 1. I've caught them off my dock in a canal we lived on. Let me know where you are and I'll try to give you some help.
  12. Stopped @ a small lake in AR a few years ago, launched the boat and went fishing. Saw a bunch of fish on the bottom in about 15' and dropped a worm which wasn't touched so I dropped a white 1/2 oz spoon. Sat in one spot and caught fish until my arm wouldn't move. Hybrids up to about 2 lbs and they fought hard. Spoons are one of my most productive lures except for worms, everything eats them. Last week I caught a bunch of small stripers on them. Several years ago a buddy and I caught 9 species of fish in a 30 yd circle all on spoons. I usually use a locally made one, Georgia Blade.
  13. I fish the Rainbow River several times a winter and always catch fish. It's a spring fed river and clear as glass. Long casts with light line, I use 6 lb mono. Most people that fish it regularly fish at night.
  14. Everyone's answer is correct but team9 has it right. I buy EagleClaw worm hooks and the 1/0 and 2/0 of the same number are different thickness. If it's a forged hook all the better, it'll be stronger.
  15. There were a load of 10' sit-in kayaks in my Walmart parking lot for $93.
  16. Headlight polish should get them clear.
  17. And they pull really hard.
  18. I live on aguably the best Alabama Bass lake in the US and catch them everyday I fish. That said I also fish for the GA Bass Slam for the 10 species of black bass in GA and see the results from the introduction of Alabama Bass. They take over and hybridize with native species. There are places where I used to go for, mostly upland species, that all I catch are Alabama Bass. Yes they are great eating.
  19. In the 80s I use to read Western Outdoor News when they were catching all the huge bass in CA lakes. I fished the local, Castaic, Piru and Casitas occasionally being mostly an ocean fisherman. I worked, part time, at a tackle shop in Burbank and some of the customers took me bass fishing including tournaments. I remember catching the big fish, 6 lbs, at one and winning $108.
  20. I have a 300 Bantam 100 if you need it. I think it's a 4.7:1 ratio.
  21. Tie an overhand knot in the first 5 or so feet and see if you can break it easily. If you can strip 20' off and try and break that, if you can replace the whole line. I use line for years but test it first.
  22. It doesn't hurt anything. If you must have the line free strip all the guides off and add more. If it's a casting rod make it an acid wrapped rod and put most of the guides on the bottom.
  23. I leave worm bags in a milk crate under my console and they've been broken into by something several times. Birds, squirrels, racoons?
  24. When I'm in FL I'll fish a stump lake several times during the winter and, even in a tin boat, it's sometimes a ***** getting off. Can't wait to hear the conclusion. Good luck.
