  1. The only time I switch rods and reels is when I go to or come back from FL and put all the reels in a box and forget which were paired. I learned to fish when all I had were knuckle busters, fly reels and saltwater casting reels. My first free spool bait caster was in the early 80s. Never had a pushbutton reel.
  2. Went from So CA to Great Falls, MT for the service. I remember defrosting aircraft engines @ 38 below. No thank you. Now I go to FL when the weather in GA gets into the 40s.
  3. Smooth Drag probably has washers or can cut you some. I bought a sheet of carbon fiber drag material and cut anything I want.
  4. I carry a digital camera in a water proof dive housing in my kayak vest. If there's room a GoPro is the thing to have.
  5. The last hurrah, congratulations.
  6. Went down to the dock this afternoon to check on the boat and while I was there I had to throw a worm in the water. I doodled up a 13" LM inside the dock then doodled up this Alabama outside in some brush. 15". BTW the boat was fine.
  7. When ever I see a herd of fish under the boat I'll break out a Georgia Blade 1/2 or 3/4 oz white spoon. It's also good on boiling fish; they cast a long way and I bounce them back. One day a buddy and I caught 9 species of fish in a 20 yard place on spoons. I use 20 lb braid with a 3 or 4' 8 lb fluorocarbon leader.
  8. I go barefoot until it's too hot to touch the trolling motor pedal then sandals. In the cold short boots and wool socks. Chaco wading shoes in the kayak in summer and neoprene waders in cool/cold water. I usually am in shallow rivers and get out to fish.
  9. For hook sharpness I use the diamond file on my Leatherman. Fast and thorough.
  10. Great place!!! If you're in the vicinity of Spingfield you must go.
  11. The new rod works good. I caught several fish this week using it. Largest was a 2.56 lb Alabama Bass.
  12. I fish several times a week and @ 83 with a cabled controlled trolling motor I almost always sit. Getting in and out of the boat takes me longer than it used to.
  13. When I break off and don't have extra hooks and sinkers on the deck.
  14. Took my 2 kids, 9 and 4, to Lake Nacimiento for a 3 day trip in my slide-in camper. Got to the ramp, launched the boat and went to the camp ground and parked the camper. Walked back to the ramp and the gas tanks, 2 6 gallon ones, were floating. Oops. A woman next to me, on the ramp had just launched their boat and I asked her if she'd pull mine up the ramp to drain. Good thing she had a double axle trailer. Took about 20 minutes. Every boat I've had except my recent one I've left the plug out.
  15. Fishing offshore in CA many many years ago a fellow in another boat was or thought he was hooked up to a good fish. The water was 30 or 40' deep and I knew he had the bottom. Each swell would take line and he'd gain on the trough. I motored up to him and asked if he'd like to use my gaff. Still having a smile over that.
  16. I know what you mean. I carry a 5'6" Immortal rod for kayak fishing throwing under overhanging banks.
  17. My buddy said my present worm rod is too short, 6'2" so I tried a longer one earlier this year that I didn't like as much as the older one so I built another. It's for finesse fishing, spinning, 6 or 8 lb line, 1/16th or 1/8th oz sinker with a 4 3/4" finesse worm. It's a Rainshadow Immortal walleye blank, extra fast 6'8" for 6-14 lb line IMMWS68MXF-TC. Too cold today for me to try it so tomorrow or Sunday will be the day.
  18. I added snaps to my fiberglass boat when I had to keep it in the water during very low water times. I made a PVC frame that slid over the seat posts and custom made a heavy silver tarp that snapped on. It worked fine for the couple of years that I couldn't use the covered dock. If I had an expensive boat I'd have a custom made cover.
  19. It's not normal but I've caught bass up to 45' with a 1/2 or 3/4oz spoon. Usually about 30' is the maximum the bass will be at.
  20. Use enough washers to get the cotter key in the hole. If the spindle has grooves worn in it there are Spindo Sleeves to repair it. Grooves will allow the grease to leak out.
  21. Yes. Heddon Sonar.
  22. When you're in FL during the winter it's easy to catch fish all year.
  23. CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, CO, WY, AR, GA, NC, SC, FL, WV, VA, PA, NY, MA, KY and Baja. If I was bass fishing I used the same worm for all of them.
  24. Better doing that instead of locking up. Don't ask how I know.
