  1. I've been using Vicious for a number of years and am happy with it on baitcasters. $31-$40 for 500 yds.
  2. I know what you mean. My 9" Humminbird came from an upgrade as did my $1000 boat 5 years ago.
  3. I've been using a cable controlled trolling motor for a long time and would like spot lock. Being on a fixed income I don't ever see a way.
  4. Without counting the gear teeth it looks like 4.7:1.
  5. My son bought a $4.00 baitcaster that he gave me. Threw it away the 2nd cast.
  6. Abu Garcia round, ball bearings on each end of the spool, black. Looks like it's less than 5:1. Made in Sweden.
  7. I was fishing from the bank yesterday and couldn't break off. I finally wrapped the line around a branch and walked backward. With the boat I wrap around a cleat and move the boat.
  8. How do you break line when you get a snag? Not that I need a comb but keep one in my pocket to pick out backlashes. It works with fluorocarbon and mono and doesn't harm the line.
  9. If you took the picture with your phone email it to yourself. It will reduce the size.
  10. BTW spotted/Alabama Bass taste better than LM IMO.
  11. Whenever I'm handling a fish with treble hook lures I use a lip gripper.
  12. I have an Okuma RTX30 and a Tatula LT20 and really like them both. They're both under 7 oz and 6:1 gear ratio. I roll my own rods and they're extremely light so these reels make up a super light weight high performance outfit.
  13. During deer season I used to go to processors and ask for tails. They used to give me a handful for free but I gave them a few bucks. Split them, remove the bone and wash thoroughly and flush the ticks down the drain. Salt them and use for bucktails.
  14. Especially in March they are staging for the spawn and you'll find them where the LM are. Spots/Alabama Bass spawn somewhat deeper than LM. You'll find when you think you have a really good fish on and it turns out to be a 12" Alabama Bass that they pull really hard.
  15. Like the others have said it's weight on the end that matters. I use size 5 Minima or SSR guides for all my freshwater and inshore rods for running guides.
  16. GreenPig, Yes he's 1/2 my age but outweighs me by over 100 lbs.
  17. Called my neighbor and asked if he'd like to join me for a short fishing excursion. We went to the local river and he outfished me with the largest and the most. We fished for about 3 hours and he caught 8 and I caught 5. After I put on mosquito repellent I didn't get another bite. We saw several small alligators and numerous birds of all kinds.
  18. DOA has a selection of paddle tail baits that you can get in Walmarts near salt water.
  19. Mine was my first Shoal Bass. About 22 years ago friend asked me to go with him wading in the upper Chattahoochee River and I went. We caught several Shoal Bass that day and I was hooked. Soon after I bought a kayak for river fishing. For about 6-8 years I couldn't get anyone to join me, all the kayakers went for striper in the lake, so I went alone most of the time. Last year was my last kayak excursion due to shoulder problems and age.
  20. Three years ago I bought an Amazon cheapie 50ah lithium and use it on my 45lb trolling motor. I usually get 3 days use out of it but I'm a light trolling motor user. I have a volt meter in the boat that I check the battery with.
  21. I used to have one of the stripper/hook sharpeners that worked great. It finally broke and I didn't replace it.
  22. I'M SO EMBARRASSED.
  23. The water in the "back yard" pond/lake is very dark and so are the fish.
  24. Went to a local lake today and didn't expect much due to yesterday's cold front. Got there about noon and threw a jerk bait for a while for naught so changed to my old favorite, T/R worm. Ended up with 7 bass up to 15". Warm with very little wind. Fish were in the weeds.
