they are definitely a great option and great alternative to other large online retailers. loads of selection for rods, reels, tackle, etc. shipping times seem to be on par with others
Daiwa Aird X ($55 msrp) and a Daiwa Fuego CT ($110 msrp) will fill your needs exceptionally well.
Another option would be a Dobyns Colt series rod ($80 msrp) paired with an Abu Garcia Max STX ($80 msrp) casting reel. bonus points for matching colors!
i'd start with a 7' or longer heavy action casting rod with a 7 or 8 speed reel. pair it up with some 50 pound braid and you should be good to go!
as far as frogs, i like the live target hollow body frog, and spro bronze eye frog 65
zack birge just caught a fish and it initially weighed 1lb. 14oz. which is non score-able. he requested to weigh it again and it came up 2lb. 2oz. a FOUR ounce difference and that is absolutely ridiculous in my eyes. how many of these weights are not correct and causing anglers to not have their correct weights recorded that deeply effect their standings?
lake zoar and lillinonah get more stained due to them both being river systems especially if it rains or if their is a storm. east twin, bantam, highland, candlewood, mashapaug are typically much clearer. what lakes do you fish?
most all lakes here in CT have pretty good visibility. fish with your natural green pumpkins and watermelons, and black and blue for low light days or if the water has a little bit of stain to it due to rain
i fish around a lot of grass, wood, rock, and zebra mussels. obvious rocks/boulders or zebra mussel can tear up any line, but away from that i didn't experience any issue with abrasion resistance
i'd look into learning how to rig a texas rig, wacky rig, or a neko rig which is pretty much a wacky rig with a light nail weight in the nose of your worm. all are absolute fish catchers!
