  1. I picked up some calipers and took measurements. Should be all set to order the correct rod tip. In case anyone searches for a Lews TP1 rod tip and finds this thread, the ID is 5mm for the guide ring, and the tube diameter for the rod is .078" at the tip and tapers up to .009". Tube diameter to order would be between a 5 and 6. I'll be ordering a 5.5 and a 6 just to be safe, they're $2 each. https://www.hffcustomrods.com/product/lite-ring-lock-nano-tip-top/
  2. I did, they don't sell tips, and are making me fill out a warranty form. I explained to them the rod is out of warranty and I just want replace the top guide. I get the impression I have to fill out the form and someone in repairs has to see it and reply with information. Meh, I'll have to get some calipers.
  3. Hoping the pike bite continues, caught via Rapala X rap.
  4. I damaged the top guide on my TP1 casting rod. I couldn't find a direct tip replacement but I think these are close... https://www.hffcustomrods.com/product/ring-lock-duralite-lite-tip-top/ Does anyone know which micro top is used, or rod black diameters / ring ID I'd need? Unfortunately I don't have a caliper to measure my rod. Thank you.
  5. I turned the brightness down to 6/10 vs my first trip at 10/10. I managed to get over 6 hours of battery life, so hopefully with the brightness down I'll be able to get closer to 8. Next trip should be longer, so I'll see how it holds up. I was also auto charting.
  6. I only have the helix 7 wired up, nothing else running.
  7. battery fully charged according to the charger that came with it, green light was on. it’s the marcum 10ah 12v lithium.
  8. If that’s the case shouldn’t I be getting close to 8 hours of use on a 10Ah battery at the least? I used battery calc sites and most were suggesting at least 10 hours. What am I missing here?
  9. I just setup a helix 7 on my old town sportsman pdl and went out with it using a 10ah lithium battery. I only got around 6 hours out of it. I was running max brightness, side imaging, down imagine, and auto charting. I was trying to find a balance between size, weight, and run time, thought the 10ah would be enough. My buddy runs a helix 5 on a 7ah all day, side imaging, down imaging, and auto charting. is there a way to increase the battery life or do I simply need larger battery? Would a 12ah be enough to get me at least 8 hours?
  10. Its a lot better for covering more water, and having my hands free to fish while moving forward or backwards etc. For example I fished the river, in photo, I was able to easily fish back up river even with the current being fairly strong. Wasn’t a big deal to stay in the same place and make a few casts at a lay down, or catching a fish and not drifting down river while getting it in the net. Another thing is wind, I got sick of fighting the wind and having to make adjustments with my paddle while fishing. I was paddling more than fishing, now I’m fishing more and able to make adjustments with the pedal drive when it’s needed. The prop does get tangled up in weeds, but then I just pull the pedal drive up and paddle around. I considered the hobies but the instant reverse of the pedal drive sold me. Getting weeds out is the only down side. So have to pick what’s more important to you. These fishing kayaks are generally pretty slow and barge like to paddle. I’m coming from a Wilderness Systems Ride 115. Also being sit on top, the wind seems to push them around pretty good. The pedal drive just makes life easier.
  11. Old Town Sportsman PDL 106, ice out and maiden voyage. There’s no going back to paddling.
  12. I have to cast some of the balsa rapalas on a spinning outfit. Usually a medium 7ft. heavier jerkbaits like the megabass I have no problem on a bc, also medium 7ft.
  13. I use small snaps with hard baits. I remove the split rings and snap right to the bait. Stopped direct tying since it wastes a lot of line changing baits especially with larger baits. I use the Palomar knot.
  14. I tried flouro on my bait caster and had issues with line management, sunline assassin. I now run 50lb braid with sunline leader. Easier to get a bird nest out, and no line memory issues. Maybe I’m doing something wrong, idk.
