  1. Haven't received it yet but I was shocked about the spool too...that's part of the reason I got it. For $29 a piece, they are worth a try. If they are good then great, but if not, I can just walk in and return them.
  2. Any other input on the Expert line? Thanks and best wishes on the water!
  3. Just randomly picked up two Shimano Nexave FD reels from Dick's online for $29 plus free shipping. Got a 1000 and a 2500. Any word on these reels? They come with a spare aluminum spool and seem to be nice. Retail is $59 but got both for basically the same so I thought I would ask. Thanks!
  4. If they can't deliver, they should send you the new President XT which is essentially the Limited version without the 2016 date on it and a lighter color. They should give you one of these since they fit the same specs. http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/pflueger-reels-spinning-reels/pflueger-president--xt-spinning-reel/1405300.html#sz=15&start=17
  5. You need something a little more for frogs...something over 7' and either MH or preferably H action. The NASCI is a great reel so it all depends on how much you fish frogs versus using a using a spinning reel.
  6. All the 2500/3000 Stradic Ci4+ FA and FB bodies are the same size. Only differences are the spool capacity and handle knob. Best wishes on the water!
  7. Both would be fine choices. The 68MXF may offer a little more versatility but the 610MLXF is a great rod too. If the focus was mainly drop shot, get the 610, if drop shot is secondary to other things, get the 68. Hope this helps!
  8. The Shimano Sienna for $29 is really hard pressed to find a better budget reel. I have a 500 for my ice fishing and I trust a 4000 for King Salmon. In between for bass and trout, I have a NASCI 3000 and will be ordering a Stradic Ci4+ 2500FB hopefully soon!
  9. There were three versions: The Ci4 which has some strength/flex issues. The Ci4+ (called the FA) which was just discontinued The Ci4+ FB which is the current new version (2015-2016)
  10. Best of luck with your new outfit! I hope it brings you lots of bass and lots of fun!
  11. I find that on any rod 6'6" or over, a 2000/2500/3000 tends to be the best size for balance, drag, and line capacity.
  12. Again...if you would read posts carefully. I contacted Shimano about the reel directly. They said many retailers used the earlier information which put the reel as the same weight as the 4000 but THAT IS INCORRECT and Shimano clearly stated it weighs the SAME as the 2500. Here is also the other conversation I had with Dan (Bantam1) who is employed at Shimano and participates in the TT Forum for Shimano: http://forums.tackletour.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=72662
  13. The 3000 NASCI weighs 8.8oz. I thought the same question because many online retailers published weights for the 4000 before getting the specs for the 3000 (that is what Shimano told me). The 3000 is a heck of a reel!
  14. The NASCI 3000 would be a good fit with either of those two rods or even a 7'1" medium Mojo. Anywhere between 6'8" and 7'1" F or XF Medium or Medium Light and you're set!
  15. Ok thanks! So are the other brakes in the box extras?
  16. Awesome! Thank you!
  17. Some of the most beautiful reels of the early 80s were the Bantams...100, 200, 300, 1000SG, and my personal favorite, the 100ex. The ex models used to go for big bucks on that auction site. The 10 models were the lower priced options but still great little reels. Here is what the ex looks like: http://white.ap.teacup.com/denkiya/121.html I also have an original Shimano Lew's BB1. Made in the mid to late 70s and I actually caught one of my largest smallies on it in May of 2015. It paved the way for low profile reels and once Lew's moved production to Ryobi (about 1978), the Bantam series were marketed.
  18. So I may be just crazy but how does the side plate come off my new Aldebaran that just came in the mail Saturday? Do I have to take that screw out on the handle side or is there a quick release? Also, in the box, there were 4 white brakes in a little bag. Does the reel already have the brakes on the inside or are these extras? Thanks and please let me know. It's a beautiful reel and wow is it light!
  19. How much does a typical 1/15oz. Z-Man mushroom head with either a TRD or ZinkerZ (cut in half) typically weigh once they are turned into the Ned Rig? I rarely use anything heavier than the 1/15oz. and wondered what the finished product actually weighed when casting on my medium light rod. Just curious and thank you!
  20. The 3000 NASCI would be my choice and I do own this reel. It is the same weight (8.8oz), size, etc. from the 2500 but the 3000 has the 6.0:1 gear ratio vs. the 2500 with 5.0:1. The 3000 hold about 40 or so more yards of line and has a "T" shaped handle which is quite comfortable. The 2500 has an equally as comfortable traditional paddle handle. I like the Mojo 610MLXF, but other good choices would be the 68MXF and 71MF. It's funny I asked this post a day or so ago about matching similar rods out and when I went in to Dick's Sporting Goods yesterday with my son, an employee who was friend's with my dad before he passed handed me a friends/family discount for 35% off. So I got a 6'9" Avid X MLXF for $130!!!
  21. Thanks for all the responses. The St. Croix website states the 6'8" is designed for "wacky style" specifically and the 7'1" is for tubes, grubs, etc. I don't throw wacky style senkos (I throw them texas rigged on casting tackle) but I think the 6'8" and 7'1" are essentially the same taper but the 7'1" is "fast" since it's a little longer while the 6'8" may be labeled as "extra fast." Regardless, I think the Mojo is a great buy and that's why I asked the question. For the 3000, I may try the 7'1" but I really want something that I can throw almost all plastics (from 1/15 oz. mushroom heads with ned rigs to grubs and tube with up to a 1/4oz. head) and even some small jerk baits if I wanted to. How would the 6'8" handle these style baits comparably? Thank you!
  22. Ok...thank you! Any reasons why? Any other input is awesome too!
  23. Can anyone tell me which would be the better choice to match with my NASCI 3000. I would like it to be an all around spinning rod (very versatile) to also compliment my Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth ML rods that I own. Thanks for any/all help and answers! Best wishes on the water!
  24. I know the Mojo is made in Mexico and E6X is made in the U.S.A. but the Mojo uses SCIII graphite now and I am not sure what the E6X uses. Any comparison for spinning specifically between the two rod lines? Thanks!
  25. McCollum's Bush Hog Spinnerbaits. Either single or tandem blades. Great lures that I have a few of still and they were also my dad's favorite all time lure! I wish I could find some left over in a store somewhere.
