  1. Now that I have your attention... Wouldn't it be cool for Daiwa to offer a 20th Anniversary Edition TD-Z for 2018 (they came out in 1998) with something like the following specs: 103/105 models (RH and LH mirror) 6:1 and 7:1 models SV spool Color options (silver w/gold accents, blue) Mg frame (with hopefully more durable paint) Something 20th Anniversary related (pin, certificate, etc.) Anniversary box logo Would you buy one?
  2. Now that they are discontinued it seems the demand has gone way up. Some are saying they are one of the best TD-Z/Zillion framed reels ever made. They were only made for the U.S. market from 2015 until now so they had a short run. I have three (two of the XS and one H) and I think they are a truly solid reel. In fact, the build quality is better than most reels out there for sheer quality components (aside from things like the Conquest, etc.). But at over 7oz., they are heavier than most reels. On a proper rod though with good balance, that weight would be almost non noticeable to me. TW put them on sale for $202 back during the classic and I grabbed a couple.
  3. The Tatula SV is one sweet reel! Not that the CT reels aren't, but the SV concept uses a different spool inductor which allows for better management (or elimination of) backlash even with lighter lures. Daiwa has used this SV concept now across the board for since about 2015 in the U.S. There are also JDM going back a year or two before that. Here is what the U.S. has: Steez SV TW Steez SV (I think about to be discontinued) SV103 - Discontinued (same frame as TD-Z/Fuego/OG Zillion) SV105 - Discontinued or about to be (same frame as Sol/Alphas) Zillion SV TW and now the Tatula SV (Bassmaster Classic release) The difference with the Tatula is that the spool is not free floating like the others and there is a shaft in it. Nonetheless it's an awesome reel. For lighter baits, you would benefit from it. But the CT and CT Type-R are no slouches. ...and no, unfortunately to my knowledge, the Tatula SV spool does not fit into a CT or Type-R...I think they are a mm or two short (or big)...I forget. I hope this helps...
  4. Thanks for the input on the spools. Glad that you're reading my posts on here and on the other popular site...but calling me uneducated on things Daiwa is a not correct. Maybe I read your post wrong but most of your answers come off as rather blunt even if the intent in not there...so I apologize if I took anything the wrong way. I value your opinions on tackle and thank you for any further help you provide on this forum and any others.
  5. So here's another question, how would a Steez spool (103SH and 103SHA (the same spool different color)) perform in one of my SV103 reels? Aren't those spools the same as the R+ just different cosmetics? Would I essentially have an aluminum TD-Z R+? Thanks!
  6. I mentioned the color difference to match the reel accents . I also have other SV and non reels that will gladly accept these spools as I see fit. I was simply asking a question.
  7. I am looking at putting three different spools in my SS SV just to try: TD-Z 103, Steez 103SH, and a Steez 103SHA...any idea which one will work the best? I know the 103SHA will match the color of the reel accents (red with 7:1).
  8. Call Wacky Worm in Gilbert, PA...they carry many discontinued colors and models of Berkley baits in bulk and irregular packaging as well. Ask for Lou! http://wackyworm.com/wwirregularpage.html (610)-681-6226
  9. How about the Ohrid Trout? http://www.in-fisherman.com/trout-salmon/trout/rare-and-exotic-trout/
  10. Don't forget the specific species of trout in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine lakes that are basically unique and found no where else. Research Blueback Trout, Coastal Brook Trout, etc.
  11. Has anyone used the newer models? They have a 6'6" and 7' ML which I think is pretty cool. Any feedback? Thanks!
  12. What types of performance gains could be found with a Type R+ spool or the Steez 103SH or 103SHA spools?
  13. Which spool(s) offers the best performance in this reel (non SV obviously)?
  14. They shipped the wrong reel and when I got it, I called and the rest of them have sold out! So, I have my refund but no Steez SV103H...
  15. So what spool could be dropped into an SS SV? I have one and have no complaints but am always interested in making the reel perform better. Thanks!
  16. Part of my enjoyment of my tackle (albeit budget or expensive) reminds of my time with my dad who passed (will be two years this May) and the time we spent eyeing up the new gear, flipping through BPS and Cabela's catalogs together, and spending time on the water (he had me using bait casters accurately by 7 or 8). I like my tackle and I like to have the newest and greatest because that was our thing...to enjoy the sport with stuff we liked. But, if at the time I can't afford it, I simply save and get it later. Do yourself a service and at least try one of the more expensive reels. If you don't like it or can't justify it, in most cases you can return a lawn cast reel and exchange for something else. If the price difference justifiable? Maybe...maybe not. You have to be the judge of that. I have some reels for my use and some for a collection. Some were purchased for me by my dad and putting a price on those simply can't be done...
  17. Sometimes it not about the performance of the reel as much as the enjoyment of being able to buy one and fish one (if you choose or want to). I love some of my cheaper reels and also love my more expensive ones. But refinement of design comes with a cost. People catch fish on Zebco 33 reels every day but some people choose to spend more money to enjoy the same thing. It's funny because I know guys with cheap tackle and bass boats. I fish expensive tackle out of a small boat LOL!
  18. Which Steez SV do you have 103H or XS?
  19. When I had $400 in Cabela's gift cards and free shipping, I figured it was worth it. Is there much a difference between the two main gears and why brass on the 8? Wouldn't you want the brass on the 6 since many baits used would offer resistance. Thanks! And by the way, couldn't I just buy any TD-Z, Steez, etc. spool to pop in the reel and the performance is determined by each spool used> Therefore, if I got a Steez spool (of the past), essentially its the same reel and I still have the SV option.
  20. I can exchange if I needed to (at this point) so input on ratio is super helpful and thank you!
  21. So I just ordered a Steez SV103H for the following reasons:1. All around ratio2. JDM also includes this ratio (US model is also in 8.1)3. Lighter than 8.14. Many reviews that said the 6 is smoother with a more connected feel than the 8.Did I do alright? I used Cabela's bucks with free shipping and a Visa gift card to even the balance.Any reason for the 8 or was the 6 a good choice? I may pair it with a Dobyns Champion 702C.Looking to use for lighter worms, small jigs, jerks, small cranks, small spinnerbaits, and senkos.Did I make the right choice? Thanks for any/all suggestions.
  22. Looking into one of these but which ratio? I heard the 8.1 has brass gears which is why is weighs slightly more but does the brass matter at that higher ratio and does the 6.3 have aluminum gears then? Looking for a reel for jerk baits, spinnerbaits, jigs, worms, senkos, and topwater. Maybe an occasional small crank (DT6, Bandit 200, Norman, etc.). Thanks for any/all help and best wishes on the water!
  23. I was told Gander rods used to be made by St. Croix (years ago) and now they are made by a company that uses a number in their name.
  24. 6.3 will be just fine for those applications...folks have been using that ratio with those baits for decades with no problems!
