  1. thank you. Last time I changed spools on a reel was with an abu 4600cb into the avail micro cast. Love that reel but I ended up bending one of the brake spokes(?). I think 5g would be a good middle weight for me. I fish in jettys mostly and this will be with braid. I have a Yamaga blue current 78b that I am waiting to be delivered. Don’t know if I will pair that with my Brenious, but what I really want is a lighter spool for this millionaire I have. Thank you, I will check out what that shaft is.
  2. I have one of these laying around. Was perusing ebay for a set of carbontex drag washers and these pop up: https://www.ebay.com/itm/255345801233 Any experience with these? Besides this, are there any other options for a BFS spool on this? Thank you.
  3. Did you end up getting one?
  4. So I picked this up at the local swap meet for cheap, freespool is pretty decent, cosmetics are OK, no rust anywhere. Did more research after buying it and it seems to be a very decent reel. Couple of questions, Is this saltwater approved? I am looking at the current Antares and it seems it is saltwter OK. Also this has the honeycomb spool, are 1/8 or 1/16th lures a go on this reel? And as for line, what's your line of choice? Thinking about some 10lb braid with flouro leader. I will use this mostly at bays/jettys but will also use it on fresh water.
  5. I want a baitcaster that can last in a salt water environment (with proper maintenance of course and a preservice) and can sling relatively light lures (1/4oz to 1/2oz). I was looking at the daiwa coastal, shimano tranx 150/200. Any others I should look at? The daiwa alphas air TW seems nice but kinda pricey and I am not sure if that would last in salt water.
  6. Thank you all for the tips! Was also going to ask what tools are needed but you covered it, this is such an awesome resource. BTW is anyone familiar with the shimano bantam 2000? I'm not sure it even has a brake adjustment, still works pretty well. It flips open.
  7. My favorite is my Daiwa Presso UL rod + a Shimano Sienna 500 with 4lb McCoy line. Caught so much trout and blue gill with it. Mine is the 4piece and it feels like a one piece. Cost me less than $90 for this set up if you know how to shop. The one I am trying out now is a Daiwa Liberty, 5' Light action with a Daiwa BG 1500. Not quite finesse but it can definitely throw light lures. I use this for Mackerels on the pier and spotted bass on the beach/jetty and for trout/crappie/blue gill. Rod cost me $60 (very good telescopic rod) and $70 for the reel.
  8. hello all, decided to sign up after lurking around the forums. A coworker of mine gave me some reels that he has had for a while. All of them are bait casters and I am more of a spinner reel guy but i decided to give these a try. They are: Shimano Scorpion 1500 Shimano Bantam Scorpion 2000 Abu Amabassadeur 4600 C4 Abu Ambassadeur 4600 C4 Mag From quick googling, these seem pretty decent reels. Can any of you point me to resources (articles, forum posts, videos) on how to do maintenance on these? I did find some on youtube, but I am not the most tech savvy so I thought I would ask here. Also, I like tinkering and upgrading stuff (can't stop with my guitars), so what upgrades would be good for these? As it is they function well, I have only tried the Abu 4600 Mag and Scorpion 1500 in the water and they cast and retrieve well. Thank you.
