  1. Save your money, get a good education and that will lead to a good job and then you can buy the very best. Anyhow by the time your are thirty the high end stuff you buy now will be out dated and you will be spening money on new gear anyhow. Sacrifice a little now and live easy later.
  2. A guy who called himself Wormie Ernie made some nice hand poured beaver type baits. Might be able to find him on line.
  3. Good thing about kite string.................. it didn't have any memory.
  4. For jigs you can't go wrong with black and black/blue. Black is also a deadly color for plastics.
  5. The Sweet Beaver is one of the very best soft baits I have ever used. Around here it is Junebug or black
  6. Summer time too many things to do out side not a good time to be sitting at the computer. When the cold wind from the north blows and the snow is flying it is a much better time to stay inside and talk fishing.
  7. Mike makes excellent jigs and his prices are fair and his service is good. What else could you ask for?
  8. I bought some of these on e Bay a few years back and I did ok with them, the river smallmouth seemed to be found of the square bill baits. I never had any issues with them, they run straight and I have not had the broken bill problem and I am hard on crank baits. I would say they are as good as Strike King or Bandit and the other lower priced baits. No connection here just my honest opinion.
  9. The only two things I would add to Glenn's list are shallow, square bill crank baits and a few that would run 6 to 8 feet.
  10. It sure is not a good time to be eating on an outdoor balcony of your favorite resturant along the Ohio River when they are blowing around. Can't drink beer from a glass, they really screw up a cold glass of brew, gotta stay with the bottle until there season is over. Bad for fishin too
  11. Cottonwood trees would be my guess.
  12. Oh glory!! Sure you do, I guess I left that part out. Make sure you smear some of that epoxy over the area where the bubbles came out of. Sorry about that!
  13. I was fishing the other day with a very old Wiggle Wart and I noticed that the action went dead. I cranked it up next to the boat and gave it some slack and sure enough it sank. Easy enough to fix. You need to put that bait in the freezer for about 24 hours, then you will need a CLEAR drinking glass. Fill the glass with water that is pretty hot, not boiling. Submerge the bait in the glass and wait a few seconds until the air inside of it expands and forces bubbles through the hole where it is leaking. It is usually on a seam or around a hook hanger. If you don't see it the first time put it back in the freezer and try again. The repair is pretty simple. First you will need to drill two holes in the belly of the bait. About 1/16 or 1/8 diameter is good. Shake the bait and water will come out, you can blow into one hole and force it out the other. Leave it dry for a day and then mix some five minute epoxy glue and seal both holes. You are good to go. I have never had one leak after I repaired it and it is just very easy to do. Maybe someone else knows another method, if so I would like to hear about it.
  14. I am a collector
  15. Same here, if the kids get it I have some to give up.
  16. There are techniques I try that just don't work. Probably my fault, maybe wrong time, wrong place. But when I pick them up and try again I just don't believe I am going to catch a thing, so I guess it is confidence. Whatever it is I have never been able to overcome it.
  17. My top water baits are either black or white I never consider detail to be a factor at all.
  18. Check out the Ohio River fishing it can be very good at times.
  19. In southeastern Ohio it is just about as cold, windy, and rainy. All of the lakes and the Ohio River are high. Things are a real mess.
  20. Check out the rivers and streams in that area, should be plenty. Are you far from the Portage Lakes?
  21. I use the smallest size with flouro carbon line, been doing that for years and have not had any problems.
  22. I heard he was shot in the head. Today should be a holiday.
  23. Do you think the cold weather, rain, and high water has delayed the spawn in your area?
