  1. I have, I allmost bought the combo for $145 - but I love the TP1 rod and the reel was such a good price I went this way. I got the rod for $35 after a gift card ($30off) and the Reel was $75. Hard to beat this combo at that price, whether I stick with the Lews or the Revo.
  2. I purchased the Lews to pair with my new TP1 - I have this as my Jig/T-Rig rod with 17# InvisX. I took it out today and it felt very good, but the tensions knob seemed tight? I am not familiar with this reel so I do not know how tight it should feel while making adjustments? I am used to my other reels that "click" but this one is just a turn knob. This is fine as my tension will always be quite loose for this application. If you have any insights I would love to hear them?? I say all of that to say that I also have the opportunity to purchase a Revo x v4 in the same gear ratio and the same price. It was a display so they were marking it down to $75, which is what I paid for the Lews brand new(Thanks Academy price match!). If you had to choose which reel would you choose. The brand new Lews, that does feel very solid, or the Revo Display? I am leaning toward keeping the Lews, unless I am overwhelmed by the responses that it was a terrible buy, lol. Thanks in advance for any insight! Kris
  3. I still use the Improved Clinch knot with 17# InvisX and have never had an issue, never. I have never lost a fish with this knot due to failure at the knot. The three knots I use on a regular basis = Improved Clinch, Palomar and Alberto (Albright) not sure on the last one.
  4. My set up now is the Lews TP1 MH - 7' with 65# braid and a Booyah Poopin, Booyah Pad Crasher I watched a video with Dean Rojas and he uses a similar set up - good for him, good for me! There also seems to be 2 camps on the hook sets, either wait or swing on the blowup! I am in the later group and my hook up ratio is quite high! My thoughts, from my limited experience, are that they either hit it or miss it all together. That is why I swing! Seems to be working. I have caught multiple 3 and 4 + (nothing 5, YET!) already and my quality of fish on this technique seems to be high.
  5. What is a solid price to be looking at them for? I had one of these in the past and loved that reel....until it went to the bottom of a lake with my rod!
  6. Hi, my name is Kris and I am a Frog addict! Hi Kris...... In the past I have thrown a frog for very short periods and never stuck with it (10 cast and move on) to see the beauty of this technique. Recently, one of my favorite spots started to get a ton of top water cover and a friend mentioned he started to throw a frog and the place lit up! So I set up a pole and tied on the only frog I had (Booyah, Poppin Frog Black) and we went out to really try this technique. Needless to say, I am now a convert! I only want to fish a frog! Muck, open water, a single floating leaf...anything! There is nothing better than the blow up, the hook set and the fight on a frog! Nothing! Initially, I had my Veritas, H set up (This thing is a pool cue) and struggled with walking my frog, and casting as accurately as I was accustomed to. I went down in power to my favorite rod (Lews TP1 MH 7') that has plenty of backbone and a tip that really helps with casting and walking. I know a lot of guys will have the opinion of Heavy, XHeavy for this application, and I might move that way if the right rod comes along, but for now I like what I am using. I have watched way to many frog videos and read all the hacks and am completely engaged with this technique. I am curious how long this bite normally last in to the fall, but am already looking forward to a full season next year!
  7. I picked up my 2nd Lews TP1 7' MH-F from Academy last night! $64.99 !!!! Not a better rod at that price! I have one set as my Frog rod as the MH has a great backbone and nice tip to walk top water - and the new one will be my Flip/Pitch with 17# Invisx. Now I just need a new reel???? Decisions, decisions!?!
