  1. I haven't started Jig/Texas rig fishing yet. That is going to be my main focus this year.
  2. Nice work!
  3. I'll git it a shot once the 8+ inches of ice melts away. Thanks.
  4. I've got a package of bubblegum trick worms and i think i have a set of pink flukes as well. The lake that I fish in is mostly clear. Would a Pink and white jerkbait or crankbait work there too?
  5. I will have to try that out. I didn't figure clown would work in stained water.
  6. I was looking through my tackle yesterday and realized that there is two color patterns that I haven't used or really know when to use. Pink with white; white and clown. Any ideas of when to use such color patterns? I mostly fish from the banks and from a kayak on a Lake that used to be a quarry and is really clear. I do have a few other rivers and or creeks that are heavily stained as well where I thought they might work. I'm hopping that they can be used for smallmouths this year, but I honestly don't know.
  7. I always fall back on my finesse fishing. Mostly the Ned rig and the weightless Texas. I fish from the bank mostly and want to improve those along with jigs and maybe crankbaits as well. That will be my big focus this coming spring.
  8. I would agree. but im going to swap out the dropshot for jig fishing
  9. I Still use beetle spins. If it catches fish, its in my tackle collection. Im going set up a new tackle box for my daughter this spring and plan on a few of those along with some weighless texas rig stiff to see if she wants to bass fish. She claims she wants to but shes 8 and has the attention span of a bluegill.
  10. Well looks like im going to build my own. For my flipping and pitching rod im going with the Lews Tournament Performance TP1 Speed Stick and my finesse spinning will be the same brand. both look great and are stout rods. reviews look good too. now i just need two new reels.
  11. Yea, that Lews Mach 1 has a light weight graphite frame and side plates.
  12. Im thinking of getting the Lews Mach 1 Spinning and Baitcasting combos. they look like they are good quality. I already own a Abu Garcia and Shimano Combos that I really like. I did look at the Mach 2 but they were not as stout as the mach 1
  13. I don’t get to fish as much as I would like. That’s why I was asking if I should get a nice higher end combo vs buying them separate. But if you are going to invest in something, might as well be something nice right? The Lews Mack 1 and 2 both looked nice and seem the be close in how they are make compared to the rods build separately. However, I’m mostly looking for a more sensitive rod and maybe should at least invest in a higher end rod and moderate reel. Was just looking for a finesse spinning and pitching/flipping rod. Found a Lews Tournament MH that I really like. It’s a nice stout rod. Then I looked at the St Croix Maga Bass ML spinning rod. I would need at least a baitcasting reel and was going to think about transferring my broke Cabela’s Classic reel to the Maga bass.
  14. I have been doing my research on building a few rod/reel setup and was wondering if it was worth it to build your own or to buy a already setup combo. Lews has a nice new Mach 1 speed spool for casting and spinning that look and feel nice. But my main question is are those combos not as sensitive as building your own set?
  15. A long time ago. On the lakes far far away
  16. I've been told there are two great days when owning a boat. The best day is when you sell it and the second best day is when you buy it. lol JK. Its always better to ask forgiveness that to ask permission. I would love to own a boat but we just bout our first house and dont really have extra funds for it . Plus i want a new truck. Current truck could handle it but now for very long. I do have the space but i have to prioritize. I do have a kayak and thats good for right now.
  17. When do you change out your old soft plastics? I’ve got quite a few soft plastics that I haven’t used in a long time and didn’t know if I should either get rid of him or be saving for something else. Or do they not go bad? Found one that had dried up and was nasty inside.
  18. Those are the two rods I am looking to set up in my arsenal. And I do us inline spinners. Have a good story about an in-line spinner. Was fishing in the late fall at the local pond and a 2LB hit one fist cast. Landed it and was about to grab it when it shock so hard it snapped the line and took the spinner with it. Anyway.... I stopped at Gander Outdoors today to see what they had for selection of rods. Didn’t get much help from the people there but I got to try a St. Croix Premier, Fenwick Eagle and an Abu Garcia vendetta. I did like the Abu Garcia but it was heavier than the other two. I did really like the St. Croix and the Fenwick. As for the spinning rods, I’m sold on the St. Croix mojo for a Medium Light setup. The spinner setup is what I’m going to justly fish but I’m going to just use the Medium heavy rod for jigs and larger spinners. Thanks for the info. It was a tone of help.
  19. My kid is 8 and loves to go fishing. If they are biting shes hooked. One day last year we went for 2hrs bluegill and even nailed a few nice size rock bass. But if they are not fishing, shes out in about 20-30 mins then she starts exploring and wondering around. She says she wants to start bass fishing but every time we go bluegill fishing with bobbers and worms all she does is get excited that the bobber went under the water and wont set the hook! Its hilarious and frustrating at the same time. I even took her to our local river in December of last year when it was 55 degrees here and tried walleye fishing from the banks around the bridge. Just tried to see if casting constantly would keep her attention. No such luck. She was more worried about floating softball in the water or the dogs running around. But every time we are by a body of water, shes always asking if there is fish and what kind. Shes in girl scouts and they are putting together a fishing day to take the kids. She even wants a kayak to go fishing in like i do.
  20. Thanks. Im just getting started. Ive had it for a year or two but havent gotten out on it much. When I did I was nervous and only tried Bluegill fishing. I did get out on it a couple of times bass fishing but I may have brought to much with me to make it fun. And not to mention I still didnt have a clue what i was doing on it.
  21. I fish mostly from the banks so its hard to avoid them. This will be the first year that I get the kayak out and fish the staging areas so that should be fun.
  22. I agree. I dont target them. I will only keep a bass long enough to snap a picture or two and let them go.
  23. What makes the St Croix so versatile? What applications do you use it for? Has anyone hear of or used Ardent reels and rods? If so, are they any good?
  24. Thats a good idea. The sad thing is when i was looking at the St. Croix and Lews casting rods is i was the price tag and my wallet had a real bad feeling about it all lol.
