  1. When you are spooling a lot of reels for customers in a retail setting you do not have the luxury of spooling, un-spooling, re-spooling. The customer says he wants 70-75 yards of the braid he just purchased on each of the these two spools. I am attempting to show an easy way to determine the proper amount of backing to spool on to meet that customers needs. If someone else wants an easy fast way to determine how much backing then this will work, as long as you don't need it to be accurate down to inches.
  2. Are you familiar with EMF and the way magforce braking produces its braking forces? Just curious many do not. Most magnetic braking systems use a fixed inductor of some type. The last line of your post really kinda says it all.
  3. come on man you are over complicating this, we are not sending a ship to the moon, we are putting fishing line on a reel a few yards one way or the other is not a game changer.
  4. the slight variance wont make much difference in the long run. Line does not hold that tight of a tolerance across the entire spool. Just need a good average.
  5. Not sure if this is in reference to my post or not since you made no quotation, so disregard if it is not. I want to know what the spool says it can hold. Ie. 120 yards of 10lb test mono. I need that information to do the math to determine how many yards of backer and mainline it will take to fill the spool.
  6. 2 days of practice with a casting plug will be a lot cheaper than a new spool. Educating your thumb does not cost anything but time and effort. Why do you feel that a fixed inductor provides more braking at the end of the cast?
  7. Do a search for Boss jig heads.
  8. Certainly will work, too much of a hassle for me to use. I usually just do the math, take my reel down to the tackle shop when I purchase my line, and tell them what I want and how much of it. Bulk mono backing is very cheap to have spooled on.
  9. Nice Fish!
  10. If the difference in a couple feet of line is going to be a difference maker this is probably not the answer.
  11. Clean them, and put a little grease in them. There is no benefit to using oil in the level wind bearings they are not high speed. Should make them nice and smooth.
  12. You can figure how much backing you need easily by knowing a few details and doing some simple math. Spool Capacity rated at what line type and pound test. Line diameter of backing line to be used. Line diameter and amount of main line you wish to use. If you have this information, the rest is easy.
  13. fish, have fun, repeat....
  14. Would that limit the line you could use?
  15. A hard bait that has some form of a remotely detachable hook that will save the bait itself if snagged, yet remain completely reliable during fishing situations. Modular hard baits, that allow you to change bills, weights and components to get the bait needed for the situation, or in case of bills breaking. Lures with an easy, quick, and reliable method of attaching line without knots.
  16. Sorry to hear that, hope you feel better soon and get to enjoy some of that Turkey.
  17. I like to use either FC or Co-Poly on my worm and jig rods. I do use braid occasionally but we have a lot of cottonwood trees and I do not like that the line lays on the water and picks up the cotton. I prefer all three of these line to mono for this application.
  18. Most of mine are Daiwa, long before the T-Wing and everything said Tatula on it. Also own a couple of special Gen 2 Revo's that I really like.
  19. I will spend today with my Wife, Son, Granddaughter, Mom, and Brothers. We are having one of my very favorite meals. Turkey and noodles, mashed potatoes and corn. My Mom will make us some good desert to go along with the meal.
  20. Keep a few of each size that you find practical for your use, pick them up when you see them on sale. You will soon learn what one to carry the most of to support your needs.
  21. A direct answer to your question is the ability to transmit vibration quickly.
  22. Kind of a shame, I see or hear of a lot of people just pitching out the giblets, I often tell them how to use them along with the neck bone to make a killer gravy. I see most people now use packets or jars of gravy, just not the same to me.
  23. Guess I am a guy stuck in the past. I use 5.1:1 reels for crank baits, I use 6.4:1 reels for just about everything else. I have a few 7.1:1 reels and faster but they are primarily used for pitching jigs or plastics. I have no problem catching fish, with the equipment I have. I could see a faster reel being useful in a few rare situations, but not enough that I am replacing anything.
  24. Sounds like a meal fit for a king to me. Gizzards and hearts take a lot of preparation, but when done correctly can be really good. I don't eat them very often, but every once in a while I see them and can't resist.
  25. That sounds delicious, I hope you both enjoy your meal together to the fullest.
