  1. Great to hear weathering is finally shaping up a bit. Work has kept me busy 7 days a week that needs to stop. Thanks for the report.
  2. 3 1/2 inch to 4 1/2 inch chromes, fire tigers, perch
  3. Hi, i do when condition allow, sil/ blk back or chrome and yellow perch pattern or fire tiger. Emerald shiners, smelt, perch and gobies top forage food. Crawfish patterns on rock structure.
  4. Temperature is the deciding factor. Traditionally May, I think the season closure is set up to cover all spawning possibilities so that is a good guide to go by on the western basin.
  5. Hi,slow crawling of dragging a tube jig is hard to beat in the reef areas gobey color. Depending on water clarity and spring temps 8 to 18 ft. after spawn. Zebra muscles have made the water so clear at times you might have to fish as deep as 28 ft. Michigan side is more weed bed based fishing so weedless rigged swim baits, tubes, spinner baits,Senkos. 5 to 14 ft depths key is weeds and finding sand bar ledges as little as a couple feet makes a difference due to a very smooth sand bottom as opposed to the Western basin in Ohio where the bottom is more irregular. The season in Ohio is from may 1st to June 21st is 1 fish and I think 18 inches in Ohio waters of Lake Erie.
  6. Bass fishing in the rivers is very good and most you can wade. Small ponds golf course, farm pond etc are very good areas. Jordan and falls have shore fishing access.Lots of good kayak or canoe access to in most ares. NC DNR has a lot of good info. Good luck with your fishing and hope you come to like your new area.
  7. jig head with maribou, bucktail or any number of rubber baits or skirts are cheap and very versatile.Lots of bass have been caught on these low cost relatively easy to fish lures.
  8. The leader never gets past the tip in most of my applications.Casting distance is very important in most of my situations.
  9. Hey ya'll I have received a lot of great advice on this site and would like to give back to the community. I grew up near and fished Bass and Walleyes on Lake Erie for 30 years. The area I know is the western basin including Canada Michigan and Ohio. Post here and I will do my best to answer your question. Enjoy your season and your time on the water.
  10. I live in the triangle area and are weather has stunk this winter. I just started to see larger fish in the shallows with the last warm up we had. Shallow running crankbaits are getting it done. Hope everyone has a great season and enjoys there time on the water.
  11. I would like to hear from the Bass Resource community opinions on braid to mono knots. What you use now, what you tried and did not like and what just plain failed.I will be using 15-20-30lb power pro braid to 20-30-50lb mono on spinning reels in saltwater. Thanks in advance to the kind members that share there hard earned knowledge.
  12. Hi, I have been using Power Pro braid for a year and would rate it as good/fair. I have seen a lot of braided line in 300 yd spool or larger in 15lb, 20lb and 30lb that are priced much lower on auction sights. Did not mind buying and putting higher priced line on my freshwater reels as I would put 75 yds or less on them over backing. I will now be spooling a lot of saltwater reels that I will need to put 150 to 250yds on to have enough running line. Brand advice would be greatly appreciated as well as other braid opinions. Fairly new to the community and would like to thank ya'll in advanced for the great info on this sight
  13. Thanks for reply's. I did not explain issue very well, the worm gear or carriage screw that drives the pawl does not turn the pawl is good.
  14. Hi, I have a Shimano Calcutta 400 that the worm gear does not move any suggestion would be appreciated. Best repair shop for this discontinued reel? Thanks
  15. Hi, just wondering what y'all thing about synthetic reel oil. I've always used conventional oil made by Daiwa, the needle oiler. Curious as to brand of oil as well. Thanks
