I am an avid fisherman always waiting for my next fishing trip. I love catching all species of fish including saltwater, but I prefer some nice green freshwater brutes. I also love to fly fish and tie my own flies. Nothing is better than some good fishing.

  1. I recently bought my dad a Shimano Sedona in size 1000 and he absolutely loves it. It costs $69 at Cabela's but I am sure you can find it for cheaper at different places or just find a coupon. I have fished with him when he uses it and can I say, it does cast a mile. He is not much of a pro at all, more of a beginner than anything, and he can still make on target casts with it. Although, I don't know how well braid would work because he is using mono. Overall great real though. Hope you find your ideal reel! ~Brendan I have also heard from some good buddy's that the president line reels is fantastic. The president is just $49.99 which I heard completely excels in the water. The President XT sells for $79.99. The XT is lighter and looks a lot cooler. I'm sure it has more perks over the regular president but I do not know them. They are both very solid reels. Good Luck ~Brendan
  2. My cousin recently gave me an old bass pro rod that the tip was broken off of. It was originally a 6'6" Medium heavy but now that the tip is gone it is a 5'5" pole. I was wondering what kind of techniques the pole would be good for. Also, what kind of reel to match it from the lower spectrum? Thanks for the help!
  3. I agree with Tom. You can either go on YouTube or find a tackle shop near you and see if they do rod repair/building. Good Luck!
  4. A couple months ago I bought a baitcaster, Lews Tournament Pro in a 6.8:1. I want to match this reel to a rod in a Medium Fast and around 7'. My price range is anywhere from $50-$130. Thanks for the Help!
  5. I have heard good things from multiple people about an Ugly Stick Elite. They have tons of different sizes so you shouldn't have a problem finding which one you want.
  6. It really depends. Most likely you are fine. If you put a saltwater rod tip on a freshwater light spinning rod you might see some difference in sensitivity. As long as you are not the biggest Tournament fisher, someone who is dedicated to tournaments and that's how they get their income, you should be fine. I did the same thing because I really needed a new rod tip right away and there is no difference. I hoped this comment helps! Tight Lines!
  7. There is no noticeable difference between the two (From looking at the specs) besides different grips, and they claim they added a VTR system (Vibration Transfer Ring) which they say adds more sensitivity to the rod.
  8. Do you personally have a favorite rod or rod series?
  9. What was wrong with the reel seat? Also, I am thinking about buying a Medium 7' rod. Should I get a Medium Light instead?
  10. Does anyone have any opinions about Lews Speed Sticks in general or the Lew's Tournament Performance TP-1 Speed Stick? I am interested to hear about your opinions!
  11. Before you buy the reel, go to a store and see how it feels in your hand. You are looking at multiple, very good reels. If one feels best in your hand, you can adapt to it's features.
  12. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-DAY2.html I forgot the link...
  13. On Tackle Warehouse Lews Team Pro Magnesium is on sale for $159.99 and The Tournament Pro is on sale for $119.99. I bought the Tournament Pro from them for my first baitcaster and so far I am pretty happy. The Tatula SV TW is best for skipping and pitching. If you aren't going for that. I have heard good things about the Tatula 100. Good Luck!
  14. That's perfect! The rod would be for my dad and he isn't much of an avid fisherman. He is careful with his tools so I don't think that he would have much of a problem. Thank you all for the reviews.
  15. What Ugly Stick did you just buy? It seems like they just came out with a few different models. I'm glad to hear that they still hold to their quality. My dad had one forever ago, so thats why I considered getting him one. Thanks for the info!
