  1. Other than gear ratio do you feel bb1 cast further? I hear people saying bb1 pro is better for long casting? I am wondering how much of difference larger spool and wider guide, and higher drag on bb1 makes..
  2. Hi members! Hope everyone is enjoying sales season. I am having my share of shopping! If you were to go 2 rod set up, and had... Lews BB1 pro 7.1:1 Lews Tournament pro 6.8:1 AND 6.6 medium fast rod 7 MH fast rod How would you match rod/reel, and with what type and test line? What lures or technique would you put each to use? Without getting technical, was curious about personal opinions.
  3. It looks awesome! But a bit over my budget.. thank you for the recommendation! Thank you! I did end up getting 2500! Will enjoy the new reel!
  4. Thank you for the input! I am glad I asked, I wasnt aware of rod/reel balance until I read your post...I assumed lighter would be always the better but guess not... May I ask the reasoning behind choosing daiwa bg 2000? Is there rule of thumb in narrowing down reel choices for a certain rod?
  5. Hi members, happy black friday! I am looking to upgrade my spinning reel to match 6.6 MH fast rod, with braided line (20lbs). I am planning to use it to cover heavier lure or current when smally fishing in river. I currently have a cheap american hero lews reel, which seems to be ok, but doesnt feel smooth.. I was looking at Diawa lineup, mostly LT models as they seem lightweight, but noticed they are mostly of composite material.. Now, I read somewhere you should use aluminium frame reel rather than composite for heavier braided line. It seems to make sense but not sure how true it is.. How important, or noticeable of a difference is there between composite and metal frame for spinning reel in handling braided or heavier line? Appreciate any input, and will take any recommendation of reels around 100 dollar!
  6. Just curious if anyone is using only spinning rods for bass, or as main gear..not just for finesse.. If so whats the combination or set up of Rods/line/reel?
  7. Hi members! I am shopping for a moderate fast action rod, intending to use for crankbait and possibly other moving baits. I came across 2 lews custom speed stick. (LJBS and LSPS model). Both are listed as Medium power, MF action. The rest of spec are as below.. 1. LJBS : 6’7”, 1/4 - 3/4 lure, 8-14 lbs line 2. LSPS is 6’10”, 3/16 - 5/8 lure, 10-20 lbs line I am trying to understand why the line and lure specs are so different, between seemingly similar rod, other than minor 3 inch difference in length, or is length a major influencing factor? Or is there other design difference..? Or could it be just marketing tactic? I would think line rating and lure rating go together, but apparently thats not the case, as LJBS model has heavier lure limit, despite lower line rating. So I am puzzled... Any explanation for this? I appreciate any input!
  8. I just wanted to choose the right tool for the job:) So I see the baitcaster may be better at handling heavier lure.. But other than that, is there any advantage of baitcaster over spinning reel with similar gear ratio? For example my spinning reel gear ratio says 5.6.. Will it perform as well as baitcaster with 5.4? Thank you for the input! What lures do you match with the rod? That would be 5.x range? Will it handle topwater well on river too? Thank you for the input. My spinning reel is 5.6 gear ratio as well.. so will it serve similar function and lures as 5.6 baitcaster? If so it will make sense to get 7.x baitcaster to supplement my spinning reel..
  9. Thank you for the input! I just edited my question to be more specific, but its good to know my current setup may do it all... Maybe I dont need baitcaster..
  10. Hi members, I am currently using medium, fast spinning rod, which seems to be a good set up to throw most lures for river smallies I am looking to add a baitcaster as a second rod to supplement my spinning rod, for crankbait, spinnerbait, topwater.. My question is what gear ratio will be appropriate? I appreciate any input!
