  1. I've seen this in low oxygen conditions as well. We have a lake that had an algae bloom a couple of years ago and the water hasn't really recovered. Sometimes you will see bass cruising the shoreline, very lethargic and interested in nothing.
  2. I think if you are in the middle of the US, it isn't as bad as if you are on the coasts. In the dead of winter, the sun rises around 7am and sets about 6pm. In the dead of summer, the sun is up at 530am and sets around 8pm. I guess if you were on the coasts, it could be odd, but it works in Arizona nicely....
  3. I don't fish a leader often, but if I do, this is the knot I use. Braid to fluoro leader knot and it is super simple to tie and holds very well.
  4. Awesome story, thanks for sharing!
  5. If you're looking to get out for the afternoon and fish after work, you'll be trout fishing most of the time. Cochiti is decent for bass fishing, but you'll have to go through Santa Fe to get there and traffic can be a big drag. The best bass fishing is on the East side, as others have mentioned. That group of Ute, Conchas, Santa Rosa and Fort Sumner will keep you very busy. Fenton lake is a cool little lake for anyone and if you want to take kids fishing, there's a double brood trout pond about 3 miles up the mountain from Fenton that has crazy aggressive trout. Only kids can fish, I think 12 and under or something like that.
  6. If I only had one bait to pick, it would be a spinnerbait because it can be worked in so many different ways and in just about any structure on the lake.
  7. I just picked up a couple more of the Powell Inferno spinning rods, 7'0" - MH / XF and these are a great rod for $79 bucks. A few places have them on sale, but I got mine at Shelton Outdoors with free shipping. It's a good rod for many applications that has decent sensitivity and quick tip. I put a KastKing speed demon on one of the rods and a left over Shimano Sonora on the other. If I was buying new, I would do a Pflueger President or KastKing Sharky III in the $60 price range to keep it at the $150 range.
  8. I had to replace my brand new rod because of a broken tip using their no hassle warranty and it cost me $80 shipped to my door. It took exactly one week and was painless.....
  9. What is this time change you speak of????
  10. This is exactly my situation. My son is 22 and he started going fishing with me when he was 4-5 and we had some great days. However, when the fish weren't constantly biting, he was throwing rocks or just going exploring and simply didn't have the attention span or desire to fish for any length of time. He fishes a few times a year now and just tells me he knows it's my passion, but it's not his.
  11. I believe Canyon and Saguaro had those golden algae blooms, although I could be mistaken. They say there were major kills in those lakes. I live in Tucson and just recently started fishing in Arizona and had never even heard of golden algae until very recently. I primarily fish Roosevelt, but would like to fish other waters as well. They say some of the fishing is coming back after the kills from golden algae. My question is whether this is an annual event that has happened for a very long time and only gets bad every decade or so, or is this a completely new event that just recently started to occur?
  12. I love the Interstates in my vehicles, but not my boat. For some reason, they just aren't as good of a marine battery as they are a vehicle battery. Right now, I have the X2 31 from Batteries Plus for my cranking battery and 2 Deka's for my TM. I think when the TM batteries need to be replaced at some point in the future, I'll be going with AGM, so I don't have to check the water levels all the time.... I have the Cabela's 20amp 3 bank charger and it has worked great for my AGM and regular TM batteries since I bought my boat.
  13. Thanks for the welcome!
  14. This is probably a little late, as my first post was in the "giveaway" thread..... Anyway, I've been bass fishing off and on for 35 years or so and recently started to put more time into it. There's not a ton of lakes in Southern Arizona, but I went to Roosevelt Lake for the first time this year and loved it. I bought an old Ranger bass boat that is in great shape and I've had it out 3 or 4 times now and have had a blast fishing again. First keeper size bass out of Roosevelt on November 10th....
  15. In August, I got a MH and H version of the Carbon Fire casting rods and like them. I want to say they were 7.6 rods, but not sure about that. At the time, I had a 20% coupon off and got them for around $60 each. I would grab another for $48 and feel pretty good about it. I believe they make a spinning version too, which is what I need, so I may need to go check out that sale....
