  1. What does covering the pond mean? And why? Just curious, never heard the terminology. Also the only time I fished a quarry I used a deeper suspending jerkbait forget the brand but it probably went down 10 ft. or so.
  2. No but one could also use one of those bigger adhesive heating pad things they sell for back pain. Warm core, warm extremities.
  3. Free stone is this: Surface waters provide the main source of water for freestone rivers and streams. This means rainfall and snow runoff. Not surprisingly, then, freestone rivers rise and fall with the conditions. They can flood easily. When the spring temperatures warm and the snow melts, freestone rivers swell with water. This heavy water churns through the river or stream bed, displacing stones—hence the name “freestone.”
  4. Is the Super Destroyer really that versatile?! I mostly fish smallmouth/rivers and been looking for that one special rod. Lowest weight stuff could be 1/16 oz. jig with plastic and higher end is 3/4 oz. jerk bait, 1/2 oz. spinnerbait or buzzbait. Not crazy about the price but if it can do all that..... Also, dang those are some chunks!
  5. Those good videos! I can't imagine why anyone would make fun
  6. What Deleted account and A-Jay said. Google Jeff Little for kayaking fishing in cold water. The life you save may be your own...
  7. Started off using grubs either with plain leadhead or swim jig. Did very well with grubs. Made the switch to boot tails and also caught fish. Feel like I’ve done better number wise with grubs. I think boot tail is better for muddy water when you need that thump.
  8. I don’t have an answer for you but can send you my used plastics if you want
  9. That does look interesting. I sure don't need it....but the monkey might lol I love the translation! Not making fun. I find it fascinating. resulting in a stretchy cast feel. Be done.
  10. I would imagine you could run it off your laptop or tablet and hook that up to the dumb tv with the appropriate cable. I'd be interested in how you like the app. I'm about ready to get on the streaming bandwagon and MOTV would be one I would be interested in.
  11. Idk that tired of it is the correct phrase for what I occasionally feel. There have been days where I've chosen to go fishing instead of doing chores or other things I need to do. Those days end with me not catching much or getting skunked. I leave without getting my 'fix' or feeling recharged and feel like I wasted time cause now I still need to do the stuff I put off.
  12. W P 90, 20.5 inch river smallie Thinking I need to throw more spinnerbaits tho...
  13. I just checked my spam folder looking for a different email and had two emails from IDX. One referenced Skate Warehouse and the other referenced Tackle Warehouse. These were sent Dec 22 and 27. I haven't ordered anything from SW in a year plus (stuff for kids). I did do BF TW order. Haven't seen anything suspicious on the cc used for that. The couple times my one card was compromised the card issuer was outstanding in their response.
  14. Cheba Hut
  15. This ^^ Tried the technique this past October and caught multiple trout up to a chunky 16-18 inch rainbow and I didn't experience/perceive any slippage, ymmv.
  16. Mostly this ^^ I would for sure give suspending jerks (big and small) a try along with a blade bait or maybe pop a lipless off the bottom. Maybe try trout tactics and toss an inline. Slow roll a spinnerbait, swim jig or crank bait. You never know....
  17. I decided to try a lefty reel whenever they closed out the Curado E's (10 years ago?). Never looked back.
  18. Means just like it sounds (to me anyway....). And I don't mean that sarcastically. The shoreline of the main lake cuts in and the cuts back out like sideways V, U, C. Dead center could have multiple meanings depending on the rest of the context. Laydown could mean the shoreline at the center back of the cut. Pile of boulders could mean the center of the cut on the bottom etc.
  19. Do a lot of wading myself. Before I really knew what I was doing I got swept off my feet a couple times. Subsequently found the USGS water data site which gives stream current flow and height data. You can use that to gauge whether or not you should even be in the water or how far in the water you should be. Other lessons learned, don't try to walk thru the inside bend of a stream. That's where the silt and muck settles and you may sink a foot plus.....if you wade in late winter/early spring watch out for floating ice shelfs. I had one kiss my leg as I was scrambling out of it's way. Also large patches of floating weeds that have broken away from the bottom can knock you down. Like TnRiver46 said, use your head and try not to put yourself in a bad position. Altho that kinds goes for everything....
  20. Self reflection is one of the harder things to do, good on you! I would start off slowly. 60 extra pounds has stressed your ligaments, tendons, joints along with throwing everything out of balance. Find something you like and can make consistent time for.
  21. There's several types of fleece. The softer stuff is great at insulating but doesn't do much to block the wind. The hard face fleece or wind block stuff does a good job of blocking the wind but i feel it doesn't have the same lofty insulating properties. You'd probably want to go with a hard shell fleece along with some water resistance coating. Can't really give you a recommendation on a single coat as a i do the layer thing and that depends on the temperature, precipitation etc. Breathable base layer, loose insulating layer and loose wind blocking layer that may or may not be waterproof. Not so loose that a breeze blows up your back but loose so you have a pocket of insulated air under that outer layer. Also I wade so way different than being on a lake. It could be 45 but with no wind and full sun I'll almost want to be in a t-shirt at this one spot because it's so protected.
  22. You need to have your fish start reading this forum, lol I think we anthropomorphize fish behaviour because that's the only lense in which we have a language to try to describe it or understand it I experience the 'reaction' bite in colder water (river smallies) more than in warmer water. It could still possibly still be a 'feeding bite'... one example - i ran crank bait in high 30's or low 40's water over the same spot several times. The time i got bit was when i gave the reel a speed crank and made the lure do something funky along with a pause somewhere in there. The fish dam near ripped the rod out of my hand. Bdnoble84 used the term aggressive above but maybe we could add 'abnormally' as a qualifier to describe 'reaction bite'
  23. I do agree with all your points and I already have too many cranks that I have confidence in. Jigs are another story tho and this will be a starting point for heavier profile stuff. At the same time the handful of lures I've found have all become confidence baits.
  24. Looks like I can't check multiple solutions. Thanks Bluebasser86 on the crankbait and also for everyone else chiming in.
  25. Hoping someone can identify the two lures below. Extra interest in the jig trailer combo as i found two of them in the same spot so thinking i may want to give them a try. Thank you Also is this a good file size or should they be smaller?
