  1. He's guilty I say, now can I go fishing please?!
  2. The most obnoxious, jackassy loud and disruptive and high contrast lures in my box would be getting tossed there, chatter baits in black and blue/purple/red etc, buzzbaits, Colorado blade spinnerbaits, the chatterbait being one of my favorite ways to catch fish I think I'd start there and adjust from that point, but with that kind of water, which looks a lot like several places in Louisiana that I fish, you can forget about most of the tactics relying on them seeing your presentation, they'll be feeding primarily by way of lateral line/feel.
  3. Frequently days at a time by the given definition, I usually have around an hour a day after work on my 14 hour clock to toss lures around a small area, maybe 100 yards at best of accessibility and less if swimmers are around, the fish are either in that spot, or they are not, if they are there, I get bit 9 times out of 10, if they are pulled back into deep water, I catch nothing 100% of those times, it's hard to feel too bad about taking an L given the limited access/time, but I guess they count as skunks for the purposes of this question
  4. Hurricane side effects? Hangover more often than not, some aversion to light and sound, grouchy attitude, poor decision making ability...oh, wait, the other kinda hurricane... Seriously though, be safe all you east coast types
  5. The summer bite is a lot like the winter bite, it separates the proverbial men from the boys, because only those willing to persevere through lots of L's are going to figure out how to get their share of W's, keep at it and try to analyze what happened on a given day, what did you do well? Things you think you could have done better, it's a journey, sometimes it's a rough one, but I bet you can figure summer bass out just like lots of other folks have.
  6. Do you have electronics or not? That will make a huge difference in being able to detect what parts of a lake make appropriate CB territory.
  7. This is the nice part about this year, I am working one of those stupidly lucrative contracts, and I have every intention of asking the arsehole boss in my self employed company about taking a week or two off during the fall...somehow I think I can convince him if I agree to take him along...tackle warehouse is probably going to be another beneficiary of this years sweetheart deal. LOL
  8. Been tough sledding for me this year, the COVID deal screwed the pooch on fishing the spawn, which is arguably the best time of the year to be a bank angler, summers are always tough, and the jury is still out on the fall bite, as we aren't there yet, but I like to think I'm going to make up for the pathetic results so far when mid-late September or October roll in and the fish mostly move back shallow.
  9. Very, very possible it was salmon or steelhead, bit loud for that, in my experience they usually slurp and don't bust the way a bass will, but then I'm sure enough people have experience to the contrary that I wouldn't call it a hard fast rule
  10. Questions like these are interesting as an academic exercise, but when you are fishing, it makes a lot less sense to ponder the "why". I save that sort of contemplation for when I'm at work, when I have a rod in hand, "because that's how it is" is more than a sufficient answer if it gets me bit
  11. Yeah, they were doing me filthy this morning, blowing up where I had been last cast in the middle of the next cast and all of it, if bass had middle fingers the whole pond was giving me both of them straight up with not a care in the world how I felt about it...one of these days I WILL get a whopper plopper fish, just not today lol. LOL
  12. Yah, can't count on anything in this hobby, there's days you do everything wrong and they bite anyway, and other days you do everything you know your supposed to be doing and they just don't want to play, guess the fish gotta win every now and then.
  13. How certain are you that the fish ate the whole swim bait and didn't just nip the claw bits? I have missed a lot of fish over the years with my hair trigger set because I jumped early...
  14. Topwaters are my favorite way to catch them, just wait until you have one blow up on one at full speed, first one that I had like that was all it took for me lol
  15. What to throw is only a part of the equation, WHERE to throw is the biggest part, I have caught fish using multiple techniques at the same spot, at the same time, but if your tossing lures where there are no fish, it doesn't really matter what you throw, what time of day are you fishing? What is the wind doing, water temp? Depth? Vegetation, rock bottom or sand or mud? Too many variables to give a specific answer other than toss a wacky rigged senko around til you get bit. As a general rule, come up with a system to approach a body of water, adjust it for conditions and start putting pieces of the puzzle together, a lot of times you will go through a number of techniques and spots before you solve it, personally I like to fish the topwater action up shallow first in the morning, usually turns up some fish, whenever that stops getting them (or if they didn'tbite at all on it like this morning), I switch to a search style bait and will start covering water trying to find a bite again, might have to go over an area several times to find them, but I like to start high in the column and fast, then gradually go lower and slower until they start biting, hopefully avoiding finesse presentations unless I have no other choice.
  16. Ever gone out to fish the morning topwater bite and get to your spot, see fish feeding on the surface, think to yourself "It's going to be a great day..." then proceed to get skunked? Yeah, me too, infuriating, they win today, was an awesome sunrise though, and it was well worth the trip, can't wait to go again.
  17. Necessary? Not at all, but many days I have an hour or maybe 45 minutes to fish, $5 is a pretty affordable way to make sure I am spending as much time as possible fishing rather than rigging
  18. How'd that quote go, something like "The more I learn, the more I realize I have left to learn."

  20. I hate reading posts like this, it usually leads to me doing something silly, like ordering a rod in the 7'-7'3 MHF in one of those lines "just to see" and it invariably leads me to yet another rabbit hole to fall into, St. Croix rods are definitely a thing unto themselves, you either dig it, or you don't, I fished Lews and Walmart rods for years, I have also had the good fortune to fish lots of buddies rods, and I can absolutely attest that what works for one guy may not work at all for another person, a buddy of mine in TX swears the Lews rod he uses is more sensitive than my "St. Croix broomhandle" but I couldn't feel a thing with it, don't be afraid to try a few rods until you find what works, you'll be glad you did.
  21. There is nothing wrong with Dobyns rods, lots of customers catching a ton of bass on them, I am certain they would serve you well
  22. I have both the Regal LT and the Legalis LT that I use for trout, these reels are way, way high up there for value, you get a lot more reel than you pay for, they are almost the same reel, so grab whichever is on sale, I don't think I have ever fished a better sub $50 reel than these two
  23. Well, when guys like @Catt or @Glenn or @A-Jay are making recommendations, and I'm certain I am forgetting a lot of appropriate names I usually assume they are giving honest advice for the benefit of the reader, these guys and many others put a ton of hours on the water in, and have fished a lot of gear, if it's a common recommendation from the trusted guru's here, there's usually a good reason for it. No replacement for personal experience of course, I happen to be thoroughly enjoying my St. Croix rods, but then if we all liked the same stuff all the time bass pro would be out of business pretty quickly, can you get your hands on any of these rods or are you going to be ordering online?
  24. Sounds like a fine time, hopefully you can do it again soon
  25. You have an absolute bevy of options in the 100 to 150 range, a 7'4 HF St. Croix Mojo Bass rod would run you $140 or so any day of the week, maybe closer to that $100 mark if you are patient and find it on sale, 7'4 HF Tatula is about a $20 above your range, a sale might put it in range, Dobyns Fury series is right middle of that budget range, there are tons of nice rods in the bill to bill.5 range.
