  1. Zoom, I like them mostly because anywhere I go in the country I can find either trick worms or finesse worms in some sort of black, and either GP or Watermelon, hell they even sell those things at a few truck stops. Failing that my favorite straight tail worm is the PlasmaTail by BioSpawn, they come in a few different colors I like, but the Junebug Chartreuse Tail are winners for my money.
  2. Depends on the bait, Rat-L-Trap lures have finally made the switch to premium hardware, so they stay, Rebel Pop-R do not, those hooks will bend out on a 2lb river smallmouth no problem, and that is just the high end of the average fish I catch out there. If he's fishing ponds with trophy class fish in it, he'll have the best chance of landing them if he upgrades substandard hardware same as anybody else...if he's fishing for dinks and tons of cookie cutter sized fish, I'd probably leave it alone.
  3. Stuck in town for the weekend delivering to the Airforce Base on Monday, anybody happen to have a fishing hole within roughly a mile of the Flying J truck stop? The Cabela's provided a very poor distraction, better by far would be a tug on the line
  4. Lately I have been digging the CRKT Overland, I also always carry a Victorinox Minichamp on my keyring, and typically either a stockman or a trapper pattern inside my pocket.
  5. I don't think a single bass has ever purchased a bag of senko's, and I also bet you that every one of those colors has caught a fish.
  6. May as well shut her down then...plenty of us weren't sane to start with...
  7. Hmm...Mepps, Blue Fox, Rooster Tail, CP Swing, I imagine any of them would catch fish on a given day.
  8. Are you buying or leasing? If you can drop a rack in the back you can put a big piece of capped PVC on top and have your rods secured, Kayak either in the bed or also up top.
  9. I fish a lot of WE spinnerbaits, they work pretty well out west for river smallmouth. Can't say I do a ton of really special stuff with them but I do add in some variation in reeling, and occasional stops or rips with the rod, a lot of bass have hammered them right around those variation moments in the retrieve.
  10. Having seen an interview with the man himself in his own office, I'd have to say that I agree, and also that his plan is working splendidly.
  11. This is good advice, anywhere fish can camp in slow/still water and ambush out into the current is probably a spot worth spending some time on
  12. What sound do you make when the check engine light pops on?
  13. When water gets real hot, hunt the obvious spots, shade, moving water and vegetation, I like worms in the summer, Zoom Ol' Monster etc work well, you'd be surprised at the size of fish that will munch a 10" worm, if the big stuff isn't working, don't be afraid to go to the complete opposite end of things and start hitting them with ned rigs and finesse shakeyhead offerings...if you get out real early or just about sundown, you can have a pile of fun on topwaters too.
  14. I have an order in my TW history with over 50 poppers, and most of them were Rico's, Yellow Magic etc, so unless he's got you that bad, your still not as bad off as it could be...
  15. Boy howdy it's been a grind lately, got out last night and this morning and managed 7 fish in probably 8 or 9 hours between the two trips, 4 on a Strike King KVD 300 in Clear Ayu (Thanks A-Jay!) And one each on a Rat-L-Trap (1/2oz Ayu) , Spinnerbait(Ozark Trail in White/Silver Flash), and a Tube (BioSpawn VileTube GP/Orange) in water like 70-75 degrees, 6-20ft depth on a point.
  16. If the water level is rising, focus on fishy spots newly submerged, muddy water in Florida tells me Junebug colors, and as long as the temperature is still high enough for bass to be aggressive, you'll be wanting something like a Rage Bug, Vile Craw, Bandito Bug etc that is very aggressive and makes a lot of commotion, 1/4oz Texas Rig is where I'd start.
  17. I've seen days down south with an east wind where simply catching a limit of legal sized fish won a local tournament, and most guys did well to show 3 fish, but make no mistake, there are monsters in that lake, and on a normal day 20+lb in 5 fish is what it takes to get in the money.
  18. That's fantastic advice.
  19. I would always follow the tire manufacturer's recommended pressure, being a professional driver I deal with my fair share of tires (pay for them too) and I am a big time believer that simply maintaining proper inflation, and replacing tires as tread/life dictates helps keep the maintenance on my tractor and trailer much more reasonable as the various suspension components get much, much less wear on them, the same can be said about regularly greasing your zerks, and regularly changing fluids/filters.
  20. Almost always choose a jig over a Texas Rig, which is something I am trying to change this year, if for no better reason than I find T-Rigs cheaper than jigs most of the time, and in a lot of ways the rig itself can be much more versatile than a given jig.
  21. "A bad day fishing is still better than the best day at work."
  22. I use a whole lot of the RI "Beavers" of one style or another, still haven't tried the double beaver or whatever it is called, but the sweet and smallie beaver's are regular options in my trailer and texas rig setups.
  23. I mean...I wouldn't go out of my way to target small fish, I would go out of my way to establish the largest active pattern in a given body of water and start filtering through them as quickly as possible to look for kicker fish. If you can, before you go, look up the winners totals from previous tournaments and see what ballpark your working with for a winning total, if you need 100" to win, then you know your looking for around 5, 20" fish to win, or something close with a respectable kicker to make up the difference.
  24. It's the kinda thing Yogi Berra is smiling down about right now...hit 'em where they ain't!
  25. Nice day, it's been brutal out here, lots of rapidly changing weather patterns, and when you can get to them from the shore they have been pretty small, glad to see somebody out there is catching a few respectable size fish!
