  1. They indeed had one on sale for only $220CAD which is a great price. Like you said it seems very versatile, I could basically throw anything on it. If I find it too long for using jerkbaits there’s tons of other techniques I could use on it. Since I use 30lb suffix 832 I think the moderate action may help with jerkbaits, but I won’t know until I get out on the water. They indeed had one on sale for only $220CAD which is a great price. I also think the moderate action will have a better slingshot motion to improve my casting distance.
  2. Thanks for your great input JJ, I think I’ll stop by the local tackle store this evening and see if they have any of the 7’0” medium-heavy moderate avid x’s to take a look at. My reel settings were always as low as I could get away with just to try and optimize my cast. I have a mojo bass wacky style spinning rod So I could also try using that on those windy Ontario days.
  3. Hey everyone, I’m looking for some recommendations for a good jerkbait rod specifically for the dreaded northern pike! Right now I have an avid x 6’6” med heavy fast with 30lb braid with a Lews tournament mb (which the gears just went in) but my problem with this setup is I can’t cast very far with baits such as x rap 12s and husky jerk 14s (which is what I primarily throw) especially into the wind. I believe my problem is having too stiff of a rod that doesn’t quite load up. I’m looking for something in the 6’6”-6’10” range. I can’t seem to find out what would improve my casting distance more, a medium rod with a fast tip or med heavy with a moderate tip. I’d like to stay with the med heavy because there are some pretty decent pike up here. I’ve also heard about some rods that are stiffer than rated like a medium would feel more like a med heavy. Also should I stick with a casting rod or would a spinning rod work better? If you have any other tips on how I could improve my casting distance without getting a new rod that would be greatly appreciated. thanks for your input, Dave
  4. I just purchased the St. Croix Mojo Bass Glass Target Cranker 6’10” med, moderate. What reel should I pair with it? I plan on using 12lb flouro and I will be throwing mostly crankbaits but the occasional spinner bait and chatter bait as well. I don’t want to spend more than $140CAD. I would also like a metal frame or something that will hold up, in preferably a 6:?:1 ratio left handed model. I was looking at the Daiwa Fuego ct, does anyone have any experience with it. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks, Dave
  5. Thanks for your input guys I think I’ll go with the 3000 size daiwa fuego because it is on sale here in Canada at cabelas for $89.99
  6. Just around parry sound, the French river, and Sudbury
  7. What about a diawa fuego or a abu Garcia revo x?
  8. I’m going to be fishing for river smallies in Ontario and I’m just wondering what are some good spinning reels to pair up with a 6’8” medium, fast st croix mojo bass. I plan on using 10lb braid and throwing tubes, nedrigs, and small jerkbaits. I’m thinking a 2000 or 2500 size. I don’t want to spend more than $150 Cad. Thanks, Go Pack Go
  9. Thanks Troy, this sounds like my best option.
  10. There is no space because the bucket itself is taking up the space on the rails 3 or 4 rods, 5 people, dog, and full of luggage.
  11. We own a 2013 golf wagon and I have to find a way to fit my rods in the car for the 5 hour drive to our cottage. Folding down the seats and running them up the middle is not an option because we will have a car full of people. We have a roof rack on top for gear do that is also not an option. I was thinking maybe duct taping them to the ceiling of the car. We don’t have any hooks to hang them from so I am pretty much out of ideas. What do you guys think?
  12. Hey, I just bought a 6’6” st croix avid x medium-heavy with a fast action tip on sale for $150 Canadian so now I need a reel. I am trying to decide between a Lew’s tournament MB speed spool or a Lew’s Mach crush. Any suggestions, or if there’s another reel you think you work well and last a long time let me know please. I plan on using 30lb suffix 832 with jerkbaits, weightless senkos and flukes for bass and mid 20inch pike. Thanks, David
