  1. Great colors...might have to try it.
  2. I don't like too heavy of a trailer, so I opt for the Zoom Speed Craw.A clacker is a must and get a pair pliers and crimp the revit. Black buzzbaits are the deal. If you use a trailer, begin reeling right before it lands.
  3. The grips don't look very comfortable on the Edge rods.
  4. It was a calm morning, partly cloudy, slight chop. It has been years since I've tried a buzzbait, so it was perfect conditions. No kidding, the first cast, I missed her. The next cast in the same area the lure didn't even have time to surface. The fish just smoked it. The buzzbait was a Strike King black skirt clacker with a Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Craw trailer. There is nothing more exciting than a topwater strike, it's so violent and deliberate! The next one was on a 6th Sense 70x Trap in Lava Truese, just ripping grass with 12lb mono and Champion XP 685CB and Shimano SLX MGL 70HG. This was very unconventional setup, but it worked. I typically use this for poppers, but since it was designed for treble hook lures, I figured this couldn't hurt. I actually the feel of it. Shorter crankin rods are very fun to use and they give more control. I'm thinking about trying spooks on it, to see what that's all about. At any rate, great morning and productive. As I write this, we are in the middle of a monsoon. Fishing won't be on the agenda this morning. Tight lines folks!
  5. Pretty relaxing day in Southeast Texas. The summer has arrived. It was in the 90s sunny glass calm water. My first cast I landed a pretty nice fish for the small pond I was fishing throwing a Zoom Finesse Worm on a dropshot rig (plum metal flake). My second catch came a 6th Sense ****** 70X (Sunfish Scream). Just Yo-yo'ing the lure through grass. These two colors are great in stained water. As is orange chartreuse and white. This same body of water I caught a nice 3lb green fish on a The Big Chatterbait last week with the orange blade. It looked kind of gimmicky, but I gave it a chance and it produced!!! This time of year is not my favorite because the mosquitoes are out and I have to prepare myself and change the way I fish. It's going to be a hot one this summer!
  6. Winter...Zoom Finesse Worm on a 1/16oz shakyhead Spring...Chatterbait or Spinnerbait Summer...Swim jig Fall...buzzbait
  7. I'm sorry, but Uncle Frank is good people and I love him on BTL, but he is no artist. Lure eye candy to people is probably different than eye candy to a bass, but d**n, you can't tell me that his work makes you want to go buy one of his paint jobs, unless you have vested interest in it.
  8. Big Chatterbaits with orange, white and chatruese. It's money.
  9. Ned Rig, Jigs, and Flipping Dean Rojas Fighting Frogs. I love all 3 of these lures, but I'm so disappointed in them.
  10. Oh but they do Deleter. Oh but they do.
  11. Yep, that happened to me yesterday...well kind of. Anyway, I was fishing a Terminator willow leaf silver and Colorado gold blade. I smoked them. Then I pull out a white Jackhammer chatterbait with a gold blade...nothing. I then switched to a co chatruese willow/Colorado bladed spinnerbait...nothing. When I switched back the Terminator, they smoked it again! I'm not sure what the deal was, but it leads me to believe color made a huge difference and the correct presentation does too. Both a chatterbait and spinnerbait move water very similarly. I believe flash plays more of a factor than vibration in terms of the spinnerbait, in most situations except muddy water (in muddy water a gold blade can be just as effective).
  12. Ain't a dern worm!
  13. Mag finesse worm. Shakyhead, dropshot, wacky rig, Texas-rigged, weightless. So many options with this one.
  14. In southeast Texas we have clay soils and the red in the soil turns our craws red. We have variations of dark red all the way to orange. Never seen a blue one.
  15. Lew's is like the fishing's version golf's TaylorMade brand, they've got 900 pro angler's using their equipment and they are sold everywhere. Lew's are fine, but when you go to a big box store, there is a reason why you'll less Daiwa and Shimano on the shelves versus Lew's, which is stocked full. I did have a Lew's LFS, and performed nice, but it was cheaply made. The writing began to wipe off after a month of use. I called Lew's and the customer support laughed and said..."yes, that's common." I did get an exchange out of them, but I ended up trading it for an SLX.
  16. JMO talks about Walleye, smallmouth, pike, and musky most of the time. Bass only please. K thx
  17. For the price of a used magdraft with shipping, you could the same deal new at Academy.
  18. Do yourself a favor and buy a Daiwa Fuego or a Shimano SLX. Those are 2 value hot performers and they are both awesome.
  19. You could give it to me for a good Samaritan gesture.
  20. I am a try new things fisherman. Yo-yo'ing Traps with 50# braid in thick grass with a heavy frog rod, for example. Beads on a Tokyo rig for extra sound in grass. Contrasting colors on trailers when i throw skirted lures(chatruese trailer on a green pumpkin or black and blue...works). I'm a firm believer in Yo-Zuri Hybrid line, despite all the hate! I'll buy 3 spools for the price of Sunline Shooter and be just as effective. Speaking of line, Bass Pro Shops fluorocarbon is extremely underrated! I've heard rumors that Seagar makes it and puts BPS logos on it. You'll save in the end. I like to gear down 8 speed reels, because I like the handle length...it's a superstition of mine. Junk fishing is my favorite way to fish. I'll bring 6-7 rods to a pond and get to try everything. Get dialed in and have a fairly effective day. I think traveling light limits you. I'm a weekend angler and set aside a Saturday or Sunday to 5-6 hours of intense fishing. My goal is to catch 3 or 4. When I'm out there I'm learning. I don't have forward facing sonor or technology, so I feel the water for cover and make mental notes. I don't think there is anything wrong with technology, but the game is called fishing, not catching, I digress. I will buy original chatterbait baits and will take off the line tie and put on snaps to replicate the Jackhammer. The snaps make the lure run more true and you can feel it thump. To me the vibration is the deal and if your chatterbait isn't thumping you might as be fishing a swim jig. I like 12# monofilament on my spooks and topwater, I like the stretch. I do believe in buying higher end lures, when warranted. You can't beat Megabass, the S Crank is the best squarebill made and it's not even close. I will buy quality sunglasses with glass lenses! I'm guilty of liking Googan Soft Plastics. They just work. The Dean Rojas Fighting frog is the most versatile creature bait ever! Firm believer in it! I'm glad that Big Bite Baits is making a huge splash in the soft plastic market, I have used them because of the price, but the public is picking up on it and it's just a matter of time, before my budget friendly go to is priced like Zoom or Yamamoto. Academy hooks are awesome! I will put them against any Owner, Japanese hook, VMC, etc. I wish they carried weedless style #2 Finesse hooks. Those hooks are the deal for wacky rigs. Speaking of stick baits, Yum Dingers and Strike King Ochos are just as good as the Original Senko. In fact, the Ocho skips better than the Senko. Tubes work in Southeast Texas. The stupid tube hooks are so good and should be a staple in tackle boxes everywhere. If you take some scissors and cut an inch of the base, you can use a 3/0 EWG hook and go weightless. EWG hooks are the deal with tubes. Yo-Zuri jerkbaits are underrated. That's about the extent of my fishing experience
  21. I guess I can agree there. I just so happened to tie on a tube at the beginning of the year, and caught a 6lb greenie. I've used traps in thick grass with 50lb braid, 7'3" Heavy rod, and an 8 gear reel and smoked them. It's amazing to me how I learn from trial and error. However, the jerkbait bite is elusive for me. I bank fish from 3-10 ft of water, ideal conditions, and still have a hard time. Then in the same area, I'll throw a squarebill or shakeyhead and smoke 'em. For me color is the predominant issue. Muddy water, anything with red, yellow, chartreuse, lime green or white seems to work.
  22. Everybody has a few lures that they love, but can't catch fish to save their life, which lures give you fits? 110 Jerkbaits Buzzbaits S Waver Poppers
  23. The chatterbait is still king! Nothing comes close to this lure! The weedless Z Man with a Kamikaze Big Bite Bait trailer!
  24. Make it stop...please...please...please. No more hair jig talk. Please....please.
