  1. I stumbled across this thread searching for something else, but the OrochiXX Perfect Pitch is one of the best junk fishing rods in it's class. Then I see you have 734C, you essentially have 2 junk fishing rods, with the Orochi being the better rod. You just can't mistake the quality of a JDM rod. To me the obvious choice is to sell the 734C. I think you should consider another spinning rod. The Whipsnake is a great light finesse rod, probably the best at Zoom Finesse Worm Shakyheads in 1/4oz and Ned Rigs. The OrochiXX Shakyhead is an awesome rod for heavier finesse applications. The one two punch. Or you can look into getting a jerkbait/popper rod 683cb Champion XP. I think you are set unless you feel like you need to add to your arsenal. I used to have 20 rods and I consolidated down to 7. (2) spinning rods Levante Whipsnake and Shakyhead, (1) moving bait rod Diablo Spec R chatterbaits, spinnerbaits and squarebills, (1) junk fishing pond hopper rod Levante Perfect Pitch, (1) Champion DX 705c Jig Worm Rod, (1) Frog rod Fury 735c, (1) Jerkbait/Popper rod Levante Jerkbait Special. At the end of the day I find myself using my Whipsnake and Perfect Pitch more often. Unless you have a boat there is no need to have a locker full of rods. Find about 5 to 7 that work for you. I compete in kayaks and my kayak can only fit 4 rods. Something to think about.
  2. Brett Hite has a video on YouTube. The rod is black with red accents and isn't glass.
  3. Got one surgically removed today. I couldn't imagine what it would feel like if I had to pass one. I also had part of my colon removed 4 months ago. I've had one hell of a year
  4. I like 30# braid to a 12# fluorocarbon leader. Snapping tubes, wacky worms, flick shakes, Zoom Trick Worms on a 3/8oz Shakyhead. Works form me. I use 15# to 8# on my Medium Light rod. Hey, if it works for you. Who can argue? It's kind of like some paid YouTuber pushing product saying to "only use this" or does a lesson and gives you what they use. Yes there are staples of for how to use your equipment, but it isn't the law. What I really like about Megabass rods, is they give you the specs and tolerances and you decide how to use the rod. There is no lure suggestions written on the rod. A Windbuster that was made for hardbaits is actually a fantastic bottom contact rod. Some people use a traditional moving bait rod the EMTF for jigs. I can't understand that, but it works for them.
  5. Yes, but which one can throw all these lures effectively?
  6. I'm really looking for a do everything ALL PURPOSE SPINNING ROD. I throw tubes, flick shakes, wacky rigs, Ned Rigs, 3" Spark Shad on a jighead, shakyhead (Zoom Trick worms normal size and smaller finesse), Neko Rigs, Flukes, and floating worms. The Levante Shakyhead was going to be my All Purpose Rod for all that, however with it being Medium Light, could it handle tubes? I fish from a kayak and bank. I have no use for a rod taller than 7'. Not interested in a 7'4" Enforcer. Behind a shakyhead...tubes, and wacky worms are my favorite, followed closely by a 3" Spark Shad. The GCX seems to be able to handle light stuff as well as heavier stuff in the 852S JWR model. The 853S JWR doesn't sound bad either. Would I be better off going for a IMX-PRO JWR? I like the idea of having one spinning rod that can do it all. I was a Dobyns guy, but the guides kept breaking and I fish competitively. I didnt like the hassle of shipping tubes back and forth. None of the freight companies are very reliable to begin with. I've read horror stories about Megabass and G Loomis warranties, but it's time for a change. I have $315 credit at a big box store. Help me spend it.
  7. Windy day today, but a landed her on a 1/2oz Thunder Cricket with white and chartreuse skirt, had a White Kamikaze Big Bite trailer. Glass Rod 736CB Champ.
  8. If he is on a pattern, go fish right beside him and throw in his lane.
  9. I have been looking for a Steez A and evidently the demand for them is through the roof, you can't find them anywhere. In fact, the entire line of Daiwa is going up in price. As if Daiwa is more expensive than Shimano. I hate the fact that as soon as I get interested in Daiwa they are getting up their in price. Heck, the Fuego is $119. I hate you Covid Anyway that's my rant for the day.
  10. You can finance one.
  11. I've switched back and forth from Daiwa and Shimano for a while now. When the Zillion came out, I knew this would be a goal of mine. It came in the mail this Friday and I was instantly loving it. It bombs lures way past any Shimano...well maybe about as far as my Bantam. At any rate, the first cast, I almost lost my entire spool. It's extremely hard to backlash and it is a permatch for my Sierra 734. Dark Sleepers are a dream in this reel. I'm very pleased with the performance It's much smoother than my Bantam. I really didn't think I'd like the knobs but they are actually not too bad. What has your experience been with it? What are you using it for...what techniques?
  12. I'm fishing our regular Sunday pond hop. We are fishing a 1 vs 1 knockout using 4 baits. One lure is a football jig. This water has no cover and no rocks. It's got some grass and algae. I have attached a Google Earth image of the pond. What techniques with a football jig can you recommend?
  13. I plan on this being a frog reel, with the capability to throw small Glide baits. I'm a bank/kayak guy. I have no reason to buy a 7'9" or 8' swimbait rod and throw 9" Roman Mades. Just a simple S Waver 120, Storm Arashi, Savage Gear. Frogs are the focus with swimbait glide bait capabilities
  14. Thank you so much! I've watched Tim Little and Matt Allen comment about slow retrieve and then a quick jerk of the reel to excite followers.
  15. I will say that the 610-4C is closer to a 5 power than a 4 power. Gary Dobyns said that on a podcast last year. This rod is perfect for skipping and pitching to hard to reach spaces in and around cover. If you want an XP, go with the 734 or 704. I like the extra 3 inches on the rod, but that's just my preference. The 704 in any Dobyns line is the most versatile rod I've ever used.
  16. What gear ratio? People say the 6 is the deal, but if it's a frog reel, don't you want a faster retrieve? Is a 7 serviceable for swimbaits?
  17. So just to piggyback on this thread, I too am looking to get a frog/small swimbait reel to go onto my 735C Fury. I'm probably going use an S Waver 120 ish lures. I'm just getting into swimbaits, bank/kayak fisherman. Frogs would be the primary purpose but I also like the idea of having something to fall back on when I use the 120.
  18. I have $255 credit and was looking for a froggin and small swimbait/glide bait reel. Would you go with a Tranx 200 or Tatula 200? What else would you suggest?
  19. I bet they'll introduce the SLX DC XT. I'm phasing out my DCs for Daiwa SVs. I just like the braking system better. They feel smoother.
  20. That just means the Tatula LT goes on sale. Not too big a fan of MQ. They are noticeably heavier than the Shimanos in the same size. I was really liking the LT last time I handled one.
  21. Personally I don't like Duo Locks
  22. Does anyone know if Houston has a JDM superstore like the Hook Up Tackle?
  23. Believe it or not, firetiger works in Houston, Texas where there is no pike or perch. The water was about 2 feet visibility. Riping a trap, yo yoing around, fast retrieving it. I'm still amazed. I keep asking myself why it worked, I guess it really doesn't matter.
  24. Firm believer in the Dobyns Champion 736CB Glass. The Evergreen Jackhammer Rod is pretty good too!
