  1. There's a train of thought to go higher on the rod than the reel. Usually the more expensive the rod, the more sensitive. For bottom baits lures (jigs, Texas Rigs) I want to feel everything so I'll spend a little more. Moving baits, is where I tend to go a little cheaper, and maybe pay more for a better reel.
  2. The rod i really want, the Kaden 735CB, is out of stock. They are even out of the Champion XP 735CB. I wonder when the next release will be.
  3. DAIWA TATULA 100HS Daiwa TATULA SV TWS 100HS DAIWA TATULA 100H Daiwa TATULA CT 100HS Shimano CHRONARCH MGL150 XG Shimano Scorpion 150 MGL XG Shimano CURADO K 200 XG
  4. The Shimano Scorpion MGL, makes a great opinion for these techniques.
  5. I would look at a Shimano Sedona 2500HGFI
  6. I really don't like this reel.
  7. How about a Shimano Scorpion MGL?
  8. The candy raspberry color throws everything off. It's just not a good looking reel. It functions fine, just not for me. Make me an offer.
  9. Champion 733c paired with a Daiwa Tatula CT 100HS 17lb Yozuri Hybrid.
  10. I could never part ways with my Curado K or Chronarch MGL. Two very irreplaceable items that I hold very dearly. The SV just moves the excitement scale. It's kind of like being a Ping enthusiast and you discover Titleist...you play your best round with your set of Titleist clubs. Now you want to tell the world about how great Titleist is and how you can't believe you still have that crappy Ping G30 driver which is so yesterday's technology. That said, I really do hate my Scorpion.
  11. I'll preface by saying I have been a Shimano loyalist for a good while. Owned my first Greenie back in '93. I've been trying new things lately and just got off the boat from a two day trip on Lake Conroe. I went to Academy and bought the Tatula SV TW 103 after a discussion with my friend who owned one. Flipping and pitching with my 734C was awesome. Saw some spawning beds and hit those all day. I had so much fun, I forgot I had a Curado K, a Scorpion MGL, and Chronarch on board. I really don't have anything to say about the Scorpion, other than it's an overhyped JDM Curado that is a God awful maroon color. In fact, I'd love to get rid of it. I don't know what it was about the SV, I was pitching jigs so effortlessly it felt so smooth, furthermore I caught a bass using a jig for the first time, I mostly use creature baits and heavy weight and Flipping hook. I have never done it before and when you get hooked up on a jig it feels like an accomplishment! Give me an SV all day long. Shimano, you can have your reels back. Maybe I'm saying this because I just caught a dozen or so bass on jigs throwing something other than Shimano. I'm sure the honeymoon phase will be over soon enough, but seriously I could sell off all my Shimano reels and go exclusively Daiwa in a heartbeat. The SVs are that good!!!
  12. Choices of rods: Dobyns SIERRA 703C Dobyns KADEN 714C Dobyns FURY 733C Dobyns FURY 734C Dobyns SIERRA MICRO 735C
  13. What lures would you throw on the following reels? ... Shimano CHRONARCH MGL150 XG Daiwa TATULA SV TWS 100HS Daiwa TATULA CT 100HS Shimano SCORPION MGL150 XG Shimano CURADO 200 XG So the idea, is for you to pick a reel to throw the following: 1. Moving baits 2. Texas rigs and jigs 3. Frogs and swimbait 4. Lipless crankbaits, Squarebill, Swimjig, Chatterbait, Spinnerbait 5. All purpose Interested in hearing your opinions.
  14. Came across their website and they have the same Dobyns power system. If I recall correctly, Gary used to work for them. What's up with this company anyone tried the rods? Crazy sell on their website. Not finding a whole lot of info on them, but the Diesel would look good pair with my Scorpion MGL. Any information would be appreciated.
  15. I highly recommend the 733c or 703c for squarebills. If you want a little more power, the 734c or 704c. I like the 734c for my skirted lures, I use trailers and I feel you need that extra boost of power with the 4 power Dobyns runs about a flex and a half below what they advertise, in general. For example, a medium heavy (3 power) could be considered a medium heavy lite. 3- medium heavy 4- heavy 5- mag heavy 6- mag extra heavy This is how it was explained to me, anyway. Rod companies are relative to what you prefer and is an ongoing debate. I will probably get ripped because of this. I use a 703c for squarebills, traps, jerkbaits, poppers, Shakyheads, weightless flukes/senkos, Movement 80X. I use a 7 speed reel and 15 lb monofilament. While, I use the 733c for light Texas Rigs, 3/4oz Dark Sleeper, poppers, Devil's Horse Zoom ol. monster with a 1/4 oz, finesse jigs. I use a 8 speed 30lb braid. Some might disagree with this, but at the end of the day, you are fishing what you like. My 703c and 733c don't do everything perfect, but as a pond hopper/kayaker, I try to keep it simple. I don't have room for 6 to 8 rods in a kayak and it really sucks carrying 6 to 8 rods pond hopping.

  17. I think a certain group of Youtubers caught wind of this thread, their newest open discussion is out and they're pounding cold beer! Oh well, they sure showed me.?
  18. I think it's just the YouTuber's lack of understanding who their true audience really is that's all.
  19. The SLX MGL is a solid reel. It's very palmable and is a perfect choice for a popper/jerkbait or because of the spool pitching and flipping solid finesse reel too. The SLX, believe it or not, is heavier (7.1oz) while the Chronarch weighs in at 6.5oz. The Chronarch is beefier, but it's the smoothest Shimano reel I've ever used. I'm the opposite. I'm not a fan of the Metanium. The Chronarch is the sweet spot. I would love to take your Chronarch if you hate it that much.
  20. I guess you're right. I feel like my opinion is valid here. I kept my tongue and didn't throw shade on any influencers, although I did want to. It is frustrating, I don't believe in being one of those helicopter parents that hover over their children and get them out of binds. I don't believe that kids should be monitored 24/7...we have a trust system, but I do hang out with them and watch programs just to check out the content. So we can talk about things, if needed. I give my kids just enough rope to hang themselves, and hope it won't get to that point. I will not bail my kids out so easily either. they will pay the consequences for wrong behavior. I'm for equal opportunity exploration and I'm that way because I believe taught my kids right from and hope that their innate instincts can help them decipher and make good decisions, but eventhough i feel like I'm an average dad, doesn't mean the buck stops with me. Kids are influenced...they just are.
  21. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I find it very concerning that my kids watch these "influencers" who openly use tobacco products and drink beer while hosting their channels. I was watching one show with my boys, where the host was hammering down a beer and it just took the enjoyment out of it. I have a 7 year old and he asks lots of questions, imagine how much fun that was to answer. These influencers are grown men and they can do whatever they want to, outside of YouTube, I feel like they have a responsibility to produce suitable content on their said channel or disclaimer like Netflix does with it's content. They should be held to higher standards, especially when the average age watcher is around 12-13. It matters and I'm sorry if I'm in the minority. Half of these influencers wouldn't be where they are without these 12 and 13 year olds who subscribe to their channel. In fact, the entire success of the fishing industry can thank the 12-13 year olds for reinvigorated the sport and pumping in revenue.
  22. No problem, I decided to take your advice and put Chronarch on my Squarebill rod. Burn those squarebills through the junk!
  23. TaylorMade makes a killing every quarter with this theory.
  24. It will be a tad bit over $150, but I think the Shimano SLX ($100) paired with a Dobyns Colt 704c ($80) gets my vote.
