  1. After my epic day yesterday fishing a tube, I stumbled across a YouTube video that showed a different chatterbait presentation that caught my interest. The idea is getting a chatterbait, take off the skirt, and then replacing it with a tube. For the life of me, I can't find the video now! Anyway, here's a picture.
  2. I think anything in the mgl class will get it done. The Chronarch or Curado 150 MGL are great for skipping.
  3. I accidentally discovered that the Chronarch is an excellent skipping reel. Perfect for 3/8oz with a trailer. Highly recommend.
  4. It was 83 degrees today. Chop on the water. I love tubes!
  5. On a Bass Pro Shops Tube and Jighead. Dobyns Fury 702sf w/ Shimano Sedona 2500HGFI 10# Power Pro Braid
  6. I'm from Southeast Texas and down here, tubes aren't really a thing for my group. I saw a great YouTube of some guys who fished tubes on Lake Conroe, my home Lake. I've always thought of the Midwest to the Great Lakes as tube lure central for smallies. So I figured what the heck, if guys are catching fish on Lake Conroe, I'll try them. I don't really finesse fish much, but this catch has changed my mind. I caught 7 fish total. In fact, I'm buying more tubes. Today I caught this fish on Black and Blue flake and Green Pumpkin. This fish was caught on a Bass Pro Shops tube and tube jighead. The specs on this fish was 23" and 7.5lbs (almost my PB). You know the funny thing is she didn't fight very hard and was barely hooked. However, when she jumped i knew she was a pig! I'm a strong believer in tubes now, and I'll eat crow. I will warn you, when you hook up on a fish, they tend to choke it. I probably throat hooked 3 fish today. Make sure you have a good set of pliers. Tubes in the winter are a must for you Texas and guys who live in the southern states. Give it a try!!!
  7. I guess it's all subjective. I've been listening to podcasts on the Dobyns line, which I am very fond of, I only carry Dobyns. Just such a great rod. It's funny, you can call the Dobyns direct line and talk to a couple of guys over there and you'll receive different opinions. Some say the Sierra line is more of a moving bait slower tip. Other people will say the opposite. In fact, I know a guy who uses the 703c Sierra for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. I can't imagine if he swears by it, that it can't be horrible. We're about to find out.
  8. The blue spool and line tensioner. I think it's the Tatula CT 2021. The red dial was the predecessor.
  9. I've been on a Shimano kick for a year or so, but I was messing around with the CT and I really liked it. Does anyone have experience with one? I'm looking to pair it with a Dobyns Sierra 733c. Primarily as a spinnerbait chatterbait combo. Probably in a 7 speed. I like the 7 speed, because I may decide to throw light Texas rigs, senkos, and the occasional finesse jig. Thoughts?
  10. How do you fish your flatsided squarebills? I'm looking at doing my 7'3" MHMF crankbait rod. Good action those Flat 75X.
  11. I don't have a favorite...I have favorites and I'll just give all my baits. Squarebill: 6th Sense Curve Finesse, Axis, Munch 40, 13 Fishing Jabber Jaw Lipless: 6th Sense ****** 70x, Bill Lewis Rat L Trap Topwater: Heddon Zara Spook Worm: Zoom Trick Worm Mag Worm: Zoom Ol Monster, Googan Slim Shake Creature: Googan Trench Hawg, Bandito Bug, Strike King Rage Bug, Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver, Missile Baits D Bomb Craw: Zoom's Ultravibe Speed Craw & Ragetail's Rage Craw Spinnerbait: anything War Eagle Chatterbait: Z Man Jackhammer Swim jigs: 6th Sense Divine, Googan Grass Hero, Siebert Shot Caller Football Jigs: Strike King Tour Grade Finesse Jigs: 6th Sense Divine Ball Head Jerkbait: Megabass Vision 110 and 110 Jr., Rapala RipStop Soft Jerkbait: Zoom Fluke, 6th Sense Flush 5.2
  12. Piggy bank is essentially blue chrome shad. I'm not sure about it, but I got an $80 order for $50. I'm happy with the purchase. Those flatsided cranks should do great in this weather.
  13. So I had a gift card from Mastercard. I needed some flatsided squarebills and lipless crankbaits for my pond hopping event with my friends. This color piggy bank was on sale for nearly 50% off. I felt it was worth a gander of at least trying it. I also picked up Lava-Treuse, Sunfish Scream in lipless. As for the flatsided squarebills Shad Ball, 4K Bluegill and boiled crawfish. Has anybody tried these colors?
  14. Nobody talks about it,, but the Ito Clear Laker is a great color and a fish catcher. Just means more for me!!!
  15. I am blown away with the possibilities this combo will bring. The rod with the reel is so light that I'm convinced I'll be able to feel bottom. I plan on using this as a dedicated Texas Rig combo. I'm so excited about this! Sorry I just had to share!
  16. The 743c Kaden would be a great option for small finesse jigs and small weighted Texas Rigs.
  17. For accuracy i like 6'8". The Dobyns 684C with a Scorpion DC is just about as good as it gets. Some like a 7 foot rod. It's too much for me.
  18. Great! I guess I ought to slap some 10# mono on the SLX and use my XT for flukes, light t rigs, finesse jigs and senkos. Thanks
  19. I know there are some opinions.
  20. Anybody else throwing this for jerkbaits? I'm having great results on it. 10# mono on a 685cb Champion. For me it's as good as it gets. Would love to hear your combos on this.
  21. 734c is versatile across the board. Great spook rod. As far as moving baits. I like a MHMF rod. I use a Kaden 735cb. I run chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, 1.5 squarebills, traps and moderate divers. I suppose another versatile rod specific moving bait rod may be the 703 to 733. The 734 is going to allow you to carry one rod and do everything from Texas rigs to squarebills.
  22. The 744c XP is an awesome swim jig rod!
  23. Dobyns 684c Sierra works for me.
  24. Shimano Metanium MGL or Daiwa Steez CT SV. I like high end equipment.
  25. I'm a little late to party, but I'm very interested in a Levante, I have one more spot to fill. I currently have a Tatula SV 7.3:1 or Chronarch MGL XG I'm trying to find a home for either of these reels. Any suggestions?
