  1. For 9 bucks you could have bought a Yozuri 3DB Jerkbait and I would put it against any Lucky Craft Pointer or Megabass Vision OneTen. The colors need work, but the action is fantastic!
  2. The Dobyns 702SF Fury is extremely underrated!!! All open hook should be thrown on a 702.
  3. I like the 1/8oz Strike King Squadron Baby Jig Heads!!!
  4. I'm glad I found this thread. I have been experimenting with a 1oz heavy dark sleeper and 6" Magdraft on a 735 Fury Shimano SLX DC 6:1 with 30lb Suffix Braid. This is my frog rod and I use a Scorpion DC 8:1 for those applications. I generally fish all moving baits on a 734 Sierra generally fish 12 to 15lb Copoly Yozuri with the same reel. To save money and keep from going out and buying a new reel, I figured keep it simple and change the reels out. The only thing that may be a little cumbersome will be fishing it around structure and mistaking structure for strikes. The sensitivity of braid and the constant contact with the bait can be a plus or a minus. What I'm looking forward to is fishing that weedless Crosseye on braid. I think this will be the deal!
  5. Good luck finding a Zillion! For pure aesthetics, the Zillion is beautiful! The Zillion has a 100 spool. You can do so much with the SV spool. The question do you want to spend an extra 150. The Tatula SV will get the job done plenty. I feel like you are selling yourself short, but not considering the Shimano Curado 150 MGL.
  6. Dobyns 735C Fury with a Scorpion DC XG. Swimbaits are very situational and I use this combo for frogs and skipping jigs under docks. I have to reel in very slow. I'd recommend a 6 gear ratio over an 8.
  7. Local tackle shop had both and the 150 was lighter. I can't understand it, which is why I bought the 150. It's everything a Curado should be the most versatile reel in your locker.
  8. Believe it or not, the 150 is lighter. It also has 13lbs of drag versus 11lbs.
  9. Big fan of the Spro Little John squarebill type. Not the deep diver. I kayak and bank fish. No reason to buy deep divers. We are strictly talking shallow diving. The OG Tiny, Spro Little John and the Chick Magnet. These classes of lures. I'm trying to get feedback. Thank you
  10. Try a finesse worm on a 1/8oz shakyhead
  11. Is the Little John on par with OG Tiny 4 and Chick Magnet? Are these compatible lures? I did some testing yesterday. The Chick Magnet is just between the Tiny 4 and Slim 6. The Little John looks great in action and actually suspended. I didn't see much suspension from the Slim, Tiny, or Chick Magnet. The Chick Magnet has more eradic action not as tight as the Little John or Tiny. The Chick Magnet seems to be on par with the OG Slim while the Little John is more in line with the OG Tiny. Overall, all 4 of these are great lures. If I were to pick. 1. SPRO Little John 2. OG Tiny 3. Chick Magnet 4. OG Slim
  12. I fish the public parks around The Woodlands. Somewhat have an idea game plan for them, but the winter bite has been tough.
  13. Personally, I'm partial to the Champion XP Jig Special 744C. Extra Fast action makes a huge difference.
  14. I was always a believer in the Ned Rig. When everything else isn't working, pull out a Ned Rig. Neds are great don't get me wrong, but the Zoom Finesse worm is the key for finicky bass. I keep it real simple green pumpkin or a variation of it with that 1/8oz shakyhead. In the summer, I have traditionally fished black or pink Trick Worms on a heavier hook in 1/4oz.
  15. The Fuego is the deal for cranking! I've used DCs, MGLs, SV TWs, Tatula 100s. They have nothing on the Fuego at 13.5lb drag and a user friendly braking system at $99, it's almost a steel. Heads and shoulders better than an SLX and I am a Shimano guy. It also goes great with the Dobyns Kaden red accents!
  16. Can't beat the Zoom Finesse Worm in cold water. This thing is incredible, almost better in some cases than it's big brother the Trick Worm. I used an 1/8oz shakyhead and it's perfect for a Medium Fast 7'0 spinning rod with a 2500 reel. I recommend straight braid. You feel the bite better. I had my medium light with a Fluoro leader and it desensitized the feel. I will use straight braid exclusively from now on. Not a strong believer in the Tactical Bassin approach, leaders are a gimmick to me and it feels like, just another way to waste money.
  17. I think I might just pair it with my Chronarch MGL 150XG. I've had luck skipping jigs, casting and pitching jigs with it. I'll use my Scorpion DC 150XG as my frog reel. Man I'm so disappointed!!! I was really hoping to get a Metanium for my 744c. I had gathered a bunch of reels for trade. They were in stock before the weekend and now they are all sold out. I was banking on having a nice rod and reel that I spend a lot of time fishing. Chronarchs are still good reels, but when you get the chance at the holy grail of Shimano Reels (Metanium) and the opportunity is gone, it really deflates your hopes. I have a good line up, the Metanium would have made it better!!!
  18. It reminds of a Bantam Lite. It's a great value reel. In that gear ratio, I would use it for my chatterbait and spinnerbait setup.
  19. The thread says it all. Do you recommend a 7:1 or 8:1. I will use it more of a casting jigs, worms, occasional flip and pitch. The two I'm targeting are the Tatula SV TW or Shimano MGL 150.
  20. Hands down a Curado MGL 150 HG. It's light, has power, and extremely palmable. Very versatile across the board. You can bomb it too. With such a small rod I would assume this maybe a flip and pitch grass rod T Rig presentation. That MGL spool will make you so happy! I have 3. In my opinion they are better than the Metanium.
  21. The spinning rod and the 705CB were the best offerings. I owned a 736c in the line, but it wasn't all that great. I could think of a myriad of different colors than that green one. I think it killed the sales. White would have been cool. A solid blue to go with his reel line from an unspoken company that rhymes with Flix Heels would have been cool.
  22. It's about the same size. The perks of the 70 is going to be the capability of palming the reel and having a smaller spool for flipping and pitching, not to mention jerkbait and popper fishing. The 150 is going to give you more power in drag at 13 pounds. So this reel is going to be Shimano's most versatile reel. i could see someone get a 6 gear ratio for cranking and moving baits, a 7 for Texas Rigs, traps squarebills, swim jigs , and an 8 for pitching and flipping. The possibilities are endless with the 150. The 70 is more specialized and a great option, just has it's limits with the spool size.
  23. Looks like I've found the mother load of Dobyns Kaden's. They've got the both spinning rods the 712 and 713. For casting rods unfortunately they've got 610-4CB, 713c, 714c and 715c . I guess the Fred Roumbanis line went very poorly for them so looks like they are going hard on the Kaden line. My next rod will be the 610-4CB. At any rate, it was an extremely cool find for me. Being that I'm a Dobyns junkie!
  24. Squarebills aren't like a chatterbait or spinnerbait where you slow roll. I use a Shimano Curado MGL in a 7speed. It's perfect! I can use a jerkbait on it too. Love the versatility of a 7 speed.
