  1. Guys advice here. Fishing exclusively from the bank. I have a Curado dc with a Dobyns 734 C which will be my stick to throw cranks, spinner, jigs and chatter baits, mostly long distance work. I am narrowing down my new bait caster set up for plastics weightless and weighted mostly Texas or Carolina for the bank. I figure 6’8 to help around trees and still get me distance but I’m open for suggestions here. No more than 7ft. I’ve narrowed things down to Tatula SV and the Curado 70. I will probably spool straight fluro although things can change. My dc is a 7 speed, I’ve never tried a 6. What’s best for plastics in this situation. I do like to cover distance with worms at times too. My concern is will the sv handle distance and also if I decide to go braid w/ leader will the t wing give me issues - the dc doesn’t. Also what rod would you recommend MF I’m thinking better presentation while also giving me more casting distance while adding a medium stick to my arsenal. I’d like to carry two baitcasters and put the spinning gear in the basement for now.
  2. I get it and thanks. I’m taking off my glasses to tie knots and saying do I really want to go that much further At the reservoir lol
  3. Although many here have lots of gear. What do you find yourself using more on the water and what’s your favorite goto that just catches you fish. Rod, Reel, Line, hook and Lure. Be specific if you feel like typing. For me Dobyns 734 champ, Curado DC, 30lb Power Pro Braid w/10 lb Invisx with a 1/8oz weight Texas rig with 4/0 or 3/0 ewg hook with a 5 in plastic worm or rage tail.
  4. Appreciate it. Looks like their M rods are moderate or moderate fast. They also have a glass rod, not sure what that adds. Is moderate going to be enough ump, I won’t be using it for cranking?
  5. Not have owned a ton of rods in my life, My Dobyns 734 Champ is fantastic in regards to casting, balance, sensitivity, action, power and most importantly durability. The thing that stands out to me most is the beating it takes and it just stands up to every abuse you can throw at a rod. My question is what am I missing out on that’s better in the $200-$300 range that has all of those features especially with durability. I’m thinking of buying another one but curious if anything fits the bill better in that range before I pull the trigger. Curious to hear everyone’s thoughts. Next rod is going to be a mf 6’8-7 bait caster for lighter applications than the 734c that is shorter. Thinking of the 703. Advice on what’s better for the buck?
  6. I have a 734c Heavy champion with a Curado dc now. So I need something more medium as that is pretty much their MH rod. Also, thinking I have to try out a daiwa. Just don’t know the differences yet. I’m still open... I’m thinking I have a 734c Heavy, more like a MH. So Id like to have two rods that are versatile. I feel since I’m going to use a lot of senkos on it as I bring into shore I’ll have some better presentation with a medium fast. I can always put my dc reel on the new stick and put a non dc reel on the 734 for pitching.
  7. 6.3 retrieve better for this type of fishing right? Using my 7.4 now I actually crank it slower. Thoughts on ratios?
  8. Yeah. I’m still trying to decide on size thinking 6’6 to 7. Maybe I should go in the middle.
  9. I think my reel is 7.4.1 so a little slower would help. Length I’m still trying to figure. Is it better to have longer to flip and pitch or shorter. Then again lots of branches.
  10. Guys, I’ll spend hours on the weekend at large reservoirs working my way around the water. Lots of cover, grass, logs, trees, etc. I don’t have to punch thru much in the north East. I need a light weight bait casting set up that I can cast, pitch flip and throw anything on in tight quarters. I’m not throwing frogs, mostly light weight Texas rigging, worms, jigs, chatter bait etc. what’s a combo you would pick that has quality and strength to last along with the sensitivity that I need. This is going to be my close quarter rod 10-20ft, but I also want to use it when I’m casting far if I have open water. I carry two rods basically. I basically have a crank rod set up, 7’3 MHF so I’m looking for something to compliment that. What action, power, length rod, brand and also what model reel would you match with it? I want light weight as I’m really working the area for a while and it can be fatiguing.
  11. Pretty consistent with lews, low price and from what peoeple say they are perfect. Perhaps underrated.
  12. Fantastic. Let’s here the experiences. Great detail brother. Lol
  13. I don’t go on the forum too much but your feedback is always appreciated when I look for answers brother.
  14. Let’s change the vibe here. Tell me your favorite baitcasters Non DC and Why?
  15. So many egos here, so many responses I can’t take the opinions seriously. I appreciate the seasoned responses I got though from the pros they make sense. Everything else is just noise on how you feel with lack of experience. Your responses sound like my grandparents who refuse to use a computer and learn how to google something. Instead they goto the library an use encyclopedias. To each there own.
  16. Appreciate the feedback You clearly didn’t read the entire post. I also expected a lot of these responses. These are the same people you walk buy and ask them if they caught anything. They say yeah a bunch of hits today only knowing they’ve been skunked. I’m looking to buy another reel and looking for reasons not to buy one. I said to myself I’d never buy a self driving car and probably sound like many people in this post in regards to reels. Then I actually have that feature in the car now I bought to some extent. I literally drove from Boston to CT holding nothing but the steering wheel from a dead stop traffic to 90 mph the entire time. So don’t get me started on that debate too lol
  17. I had the Curado k and the dc on my rod. Very similar experience to me except that every so often you get a lash on the k like every other caster... that’s not there on the dc. The other thing I noticed was casting distance. Dc averaged 20-30 feet more easy on and average cast. Makes total sense to me. Thanks for the details, great post. Your right, pitching is definitely a downside of the reel.
  18. What am I missing out on, what was underwhelming specifically? Looking for specifics of why I shouldn’t buy another one
  19. If you haven’t tried one... You really can’t comment on the positives and negatives as you haven’t endured the experience. At that point it’s just an opinion, I’m looking for facts. I encourage you guys to definitely try one. Reading a some of the posts are like reading “hey I won’t use google maps because I like using a traditional map” Yes they do the same thing, but clearly one does it more efficiently. Pretty low profile, no? It’s good for distance or near Sign up to get updates on AOL bro
  20. The same everyone else can cast in the wind... With 30-40lb braid it is not as bad as you see on YouTube in my opinion. My dc is low profile and very light. There are no batteries in the unit lol I throw weightless all the time. What control do I miss, I feel like I have all the control I need. I’m trying to see the differences?
  21. Guys, why wouldn’t you use a digital reel? Besides the fact they cost more, what are the downsides of it? I constantly let people use my Curado DC after they say over and over they can bomb a standard baitcaster with no problem. Then I let them try my reel and watch their amazement, mine always casts further and never has a backlash. I constantly see it out perform a standard reel. So tell me, what are the downsides compared to a regular baitcaster? If you’re one of those guys who hasn’t tried one yet, then don’t say you don’t need it because your a pro. I’m asking for a debate here of what are the positives and negatives, besides cost... I see none.
  22. I just got finished. The spinning reel had so much crap in it, mostly used by my son and gf. They kind of trashed it. Broke them both down without, cleaned with alcohol and greased with shimano oil. All seems solid, just wish there was a video on a dc. Honestly, I’ve never dunked it and the most first that was on it was the green residue off the braid. I’m using powerpro and most of it ends up on my them. Might need to find a different alternative there. I think the braid has been on for two years, about to put a fresh spool on.
  23. What’s the norm on taking everything apart and cleaning it. Honestly my baitcaster, which I use most feels the same it did the day I got it.
