  1. I enjoy my braid to Fluro leader set up. Have no issues and I find that it works great. Just noticed I don’t catch as many fish. We will see how things go, worst case I switch it back and find a new hobby ?
  2. Story of my life
  3. I do use my kids ugly stick occasionally. He’s using straight mono, always seem to be a money stick. Who knows, going to try and go from there. Curious about the performance and management of the bc without braid. Sounds like more headaches managing it.
  4. I’m going to switch all my line over to start the season off with straight mono. I’ve been fishing the same spots for years and 2 years ago since I switched to Braid/ Fluro Leader or straight Fluro, I’ve caught less fish. The waters could be less filled or overfished, but it’s pretty consistent. I’ll set up the spinning with 6-8lb test mono that’s an easy decision, but I don’t think I’ve ever used anything but braid on my bait caster. I imagine I should run it with a braid backing to avoid slip and use atleast 12lb test? Any opinions here on my situation. I want to be able to manage the baitcaster, avg catch is 2-5 lbs. Lots of clear water, fishing from the bank at reservoirs, lakes and ponds. Usually very shallow. Primarily throw worms, flukes, some TRigs, cranks, wp and chatter.
  5. I use 8lb on spinning and 12 on bc. Never any luck or need over that. I’ll try going straight mono next season and see how it goes. That’s what I started with and I caught the most fish way back. Maybe I’ve complicated my fishing when back to basics might just work. I’ll have to see how line management goes. Thanks
  6. Do you ever use mono leaders with Braid?
  7. Great feedback. You all are going to help me on next season. So that’s o you ! So I guess this moves to me to part two. I’ve always used fluro since most of my fishing is done within a couple of feet or max 10-12 at best mono sounds like the best winner. My concern is when I need to hit the bottom vs fluro. The set up is a vanford on a 7 m Expride and a dc Curado on a 7’2 Expride. I’m fishing around cover I have spinning gear with at most a 1/8 oz weight and worm, or whacky or ned. On the bc I’m throwing a 1/4 oz with worm, or shadow rap, chatter or crank or jig. Will mono work on all of these best?
  8. It’s the snags that cost me which is why I prefer braid. Perhaps mono is the deal breaker, I may need to go back. On a baitcaster what’s the suggesting point test. DC Curado 7’2 Expride. Fluro or mono? Then fluro or mono for the situation? Spinning vanford on a Expride M and Curado DC Expride 7’2 MH?
  9. Always a fluro leader. Shallow mostly. Always reservoirs or lakes. Always pressured up here in CT. Always lots of brush and tillys. Lots of snags on windy days which is why I use the braid. I haven’t used mono in a while. Are you saying switch to Mono or is using a mono leader even a thing? It’s for casting and spinning from the shore. You think Mono has an advantage? Since I’m so shallow perhaps it’s better as a slow sinker. What about when I T rig weighted and want to hit the bottom - fluro or Mono?
  10. For two seasons I’ve used braid. I love casting further, ripping the line from cover and just the overall toughness. Mostly fishing from the bank, I simply notice though I catch way more fish without the braid. Has anyone else who primarily fishes from the bank experience this? I’m just curious here others experience.
  11. It’s a dream man. I need to learn how to be accurate with with spinning like I do my bc. I think I’ll be using it more than the bc now. Love it.
  12. Not at all. Glad I got the 2500. I live in an area where a river meets the Atlantic. So it’s a breeding ground for smallies. So I occasionally do freshwater. Plenty of line on the 2500 for that. It just looked smaller before I spooled it. I think you can’t go wrong with any size. If you have concerns you can wait until they are on shelves or go with your gut and return if necessary. 2000 might be enough but personally I spoil full braid with no backing so I just like a lot on because I’m lazy.
  13. I received mine and almost regretted not getting a 3000. But she holds plenty of line and is perfect. No regrets. JP from Shimano has 2000 in a YouTube video from other day.
  14. Can’t stand it doesn’t have a keeper but the Fuji add on works. I may have a local shop put them on though. It made me look at my bc set up like it was my ugly stick, I didn’t want to touch it lol. Both super light though. I’m 46, bad feet, bad knees, bad back. Tonight was the first night in years I felt no pain after a night of fishing. Even hiking through two reservoirs after the tropical storm weeks ago with so many trees down. I’m sharing to help those fellas like myself and also those who seek an amazing set up. Grab one or even two!
  15. I received my 7ft M Expride Spinning last week along with my 7’2 MH BC Expride. I also received my 2500 Vanford today to pair it. I can’t imagine much being better and lighter for the money. Also a very sensitive stick. I’ve always been a BC guy and I literally didn’t want to put it down tonight. Simply an amazing combo! The BC is also very light and pretty sensitive. I sold my Dobyns 734 XP and I will say the Dobyns feels tougher, but the Expride is a dream. My goal was to get light and sensitive and reduce fatigue on the water while getting the best quality for the buck. Only one night of fishing, but I am happy I invested and happy I waited. Appreciate everyone’s advice on the forum.
