could you help me with making sure my rods a real also? i can’t find anything wrong with them really , just the combination of paying so little and the fact that i was not as impressed with the feel of it as i thought u should’ve been. I have a GLX 854c ive been very impressed with. I have just purchased a 853c and 822s syr both NRX.

i have mine on an expride and frankly it feels like they were made for eachother it’s so light. I bet the Zodias feels similar

i use the Berkley Choppo in 90 size , and i don’t have as much of an issue... i use the Whopper in anything larger than 90. It helps

i just got the GLX 854c for this exact application. I found it for an absolute steal for 292 dollars. To my front door i paid 319 i think because i went with 2 day shipping because it was such a great deal. Best decision i’ve ever made. All thanks to this forum.

i just want to say reading this forum years later is extremely painful ???? Everyone is arguing back and forth on whether he should go custom or not. Or arguing about which blank etc.... meanwhile i’m 11 comments in and not one person has bothered to actually answer the question... which was kinda easy to answer. Yeah sure having two rods would’ve been amazing but he said one rod so it’s up to him to choose between the 7’1” MH and the 7’1” H , unless he prefers 7’5”.... so the 854C would be my choice, many like the 894C , and the GLX 894C is a great model. I wish the 854 NRX was rated to 1oz instead of 3/4oz but lol this thread is fun to read.

i’ve been on a serious bender with gear lately.... It all started with a G Loomis IMX Pro 822 DSR , some how i went into April needing one spinning rod and will be leaving May with all new gear almost from a Scorpion MGL , another stradic ci4 , stradic FL , Curado swimbait rod 8ft , Daiwa Lexa WN 300 , and i won’t bother mention the tackle but i been trying to organize my stuff. I’ve always been picky about keeping my soft plastics in the original bags. but this season i’m trying something new and putting them all in plano boxes, besides anything made of Elaztech.

lol i have wanted to say that multiple times now but i didn’t have the heart. He spells for , “fore” every single time and he’s in high school. Perhaps he’s 14 and the next Jordan Lee , i followed him because while his spelling and grammar drive me up a wall, his questions are often very good or at least provoke a thread that gives me knowledge. So i like the kid lol yep i got my one Fury medium spinning two season ago for 84 bucks shipped on a Dicks website sale. People seem to ignore Dicks , and while i’ll probably never buy a *** Fishing Rod again (lol get it) i got the obnoxious green one for like 67 bucks last year in a pinch when i was out of town and needed a heavy power rod i could flip and frog with and not care if it broke. It actually surprised me as a good rod in a pinch.

did you purchase yet? if so what did you get and how do you like it? I’m currently in a rabbit hole of rods for what sounds like the same purpose. I own a 7ft mh dobyns champion xp that i love, i use it for everything. I bank fish and this rod and the 6’8 expride mh are probably my favorite bank fishing rods because they can avoid limbs but are sensitive enough to fish t rigs up to and even over 5/8oz but also can throw 1/2oz jigs 3/8oz jigs etc on them and if i want i can tie on a buzzbait or lipless , spinnerbait and chatterbaits. As for the heavy cover or lily pads not super heavy vegetation as i live in maryland..... these rods don’t have the backbone i need for pulling a fish out of pads. I have a 7ft MH Avid X and it’s tip is slower than id like, it’s sensitivity is perfect , and it’s backbone is just about right too but a heavy action St Croix would probably do this perfectly. However i’m in a rabbit hole of trying to find an NRX , GLX , Dobyns really anything because i’ve looked at Kistler, Megabass, Powell, and clearly Shimano. The rod world is crazy, life was far more simple when i was only buying Bass Pro combos and Lews Combos as a kid with my employee discount lol Now i feel this constant itch to keep up with the Jones’ ??‍♂️

Big bite baits is amazing honestly I’ve beej using GYB and yum for years and this summer I decided to try big bites cuz let’s face it the price point is amazing..... so far I’ve gone out twice to my usual spots and I live in an area that is pretty tough to catch bass at. I caught 5 in an hour on just two worms , GYB just doesn’t have the durability of other companies and I feel like the bass like the sweet smell big bites uses also fished a tourney yesterday at a reservoir with 8 people and it was flooded and terrible nobody caught a single fish besides me, I caught two in 5 hours. Both on my new secret bait powerbaits chigger craw and I’ve always hated this company until this year also. I think we let name brands and marketing do too much thinking for us

All these people keep telling you to get two rods but I disagree. Yes it will help you but no it’s not necessary. For my weighted t rigs and jigs I use a 7MHF , I have two an avid x and a Lews Mach 2 combo I beat up. However I see no issue with you getting like a 6’8”-10” medium rod with a fast tip and using it for weightless t rigs and your slightly weighted t rigs, running like 12-15lb straight flouro , and doubling it as a cranking rod and just lowering your drag slightly when doing so and throw mainly 1.5 cranks and slightly bigger or smaller. It will work just fine because we are humans and we can use any rod for any application with practice, it’s just much easier and more convenient to spend more money so that your hook sets are easier right off jump street. But with time you can nearly master both with just one rod. I mean come on , you guys can’t tell me that when you were 9-18 years old you had the money to own 5-7 set ups, I’m sure you had a spinning rod and if you were lucky a casting set up. And guess what , we all caught our biggest bass at 7 years old without a scale on a Walmart rod throwing a Senko lol ??

Lol I had a bull frog go for my Texas rigged Senko last week , that was a first. But I live in Maryland where unless you are on a boat the frog bite is non existent

I imagine a 7 footer would be perfect for this application. I do a lot of bank fishing and enjoy a shorter rod, but when I am on a boat i dont mind a longer rod, i have a yak and should use it more than i do but i seem to prefer my 7 foot rod when on it

That’s the plan ! I wish shimanos had external breaking , I know they do on higher stuff but the nobs never feel right , very stiff. But I’ve never casted one sooo we shall see what I do

I went with an avid x today , got it for under 185 after taxes so I was pleased, now I have to fight the urge to pair it with a platinum Johnny Morris reel cuz the discount lol(200 dollar reel for 110 or get a Shimano or Lews or abu daiwa etc at no discount at all). Tried the rod with my Lews Mach 2 reel and I think I need something lighter but I love the rod so far! Thank you!

both avid x and zodias do but carbonlite doesnt.... my discount is 45% but i also get 15% on other companies rods too not reels though

Wait really? I am tryin to decide what to buy sometime in the next week and done countless hours of research and had it down to avid x vs zodias.... this rod will be a t rig rod with pegged weights usually, and then i read this! d**n you, my buddy keeps telling me get the carbonlite and i work for tracker so i get a huge discount on anything johnny morris owns.... so now you got me so confused on what to do haha

Lol you should condense your posts into smaller ones imo, other than that I really enjoyed reading it. That is because I too got my first ever combo last year in a Mach Lews for 79.99 steal! It was a great first set up especially since they still sell the reels for 99.99 everywhere. So I upgraded to the Mach 2 and I love it. I’ve had it for a few months now and I use it for keitech fat swing impacts, t rigs and very light mini chatter baits by z man and crappie size spinner baits. I have the same one you do 7ft MH on a 7.5.1 reel. I use 15lb straight flouro on it only cuz it’s micro guides, and I turned the 7ft6 Mach slp combo mhf into my frogging rod for now with 50lb godline or powerpro. I’m currently upgrading my t rig set up and will be using the Mach 2 as a perfect all purpose rod (other than super heavy application stuff like frogging in lily pads) I’m gonna get either an Avid or Avid X St Croix, Shimano Zodias or Daiwa Tatula in 6ft 10 mhf or mXF cuz I’m shorter (5.9) and I bank fish mostly all in all the mach 2 for 169 is the best combo in history for that price new cuz most reel companies don’t bother combining stuff other than Lews and abu and even abu lets them throw a Berkley cherrywood on his cheap stuff Oh yeah , I had issues at first with hook sets too on the combo but quickly realized that I needed to make sure first I reeled in all slack then set the hook and while setting the hook I needed to reel rather than setting hook and then lowering rod top and reeling. It helped a ton Youll learn that the 7 feet actually helps you set hooks better but you don’t have to set hooks nearly as hard and the type of line means everything for each application or lure you use

I also am in the market for a new jig and texas rig rod. And i had never heard of these rods, I was being pretty narrow minded, focusing on St Croix, G loomis, Shimano etc. . . But i will check these out. I work for a Johnny Morris owned corp (Tracker) so i usually end up at a bass pro but looks like cabelas has a few great selections i been missing out on! If anyone has any thoughts or sugs, on a casting rod in the 6.8 -7ft range around 120-250 price range please let me know.
