  1. Went out again tonight almost got skunked again. Got one about 10” and this one little over a pound and a half. There a little thin right now this one would have went a little more earlier in the season I think. I have to add it felt great to have something smash a square bill on my medium action rod. I can’t wait to add a medium casting setup to the collection next spring.
  2. I live in mass. I don’t think there were any storms right before I could be wrong though. We did cool down abit though a few days before and the bite turned on then rediculously hot for a few more days. One pond is not that big and I know the water is really warm. The few cool days breathed a little life into it.
  3. Yup most of my snags we’re out of frustration and boredom. The lost whopper plopper was cause I got bored on Friday night and decided to have a casting contest with myself and loosend up all the breaks. I forgot to reset them on Sunday morning. The braid snapped of and I watched that sucker fly off into the sunrise with no chance of getting it back. Then a major backlash trying to cast in between branches I just don’t have the skill for yet, now I’ll be cutting $30 worth of braid off that’s only 3 weeks old. No guts no glory I guess lol. Lesson learned go home before you get stupid.
  4. I just recently upgraded my gear. I really have no experience with high end gear but the new set ups I have so far seem to be good midrange gear for the weekend warrior. The spinning setup is a bass pro carbonlite 2 medium fast with a Shimano nasci reel $220 for both and I really like it so far. The casting also a carbonlite 2 medium heavy fast with a Shimano currado, bass pro has a combo deal for $269 for this one and I love it. Again I’m no pro and these are my first 2 setups into the next level of quality and I feel they are hard to beat at that price point. That’s my 2 cents from one weekend warrior to another.
  5. All weekend, three different ponds. I threw everything I had, every shape and color of worm, some crank baits whopper ploppers, buzz baits, spinner baits. I just couldn’t get a bite on anything. Ended up with a backlash so bad I’m gonna end up cutting all my braid off. Lost a whopper plopper, all around horrible. I was so excited to get out and do some morning fishing it’s been a while since I had time for that. Broke my line off three times trying to get into tight spots. I’m no great fisherman but I sure tried hard to no avail.
  6. Fall would be nice my truck was just reading 116. I know that’s not the actuall temp but I’m working in the sun right next to it.
  7. Is that the only bait your using? Get some 5” stickbaits(worms) and another kind with a tail. Green pumpkin and watermelon should probably have you catching fish tomorrow. Not guaranteed but most days you atleast get a couple small ones with those.
  8. I think everyone has a freind like that, mine not a fishing buddy. Instead he drinks my beers, smokes my smokes, hot dogs at the barbecue lol. I have to laugh it off. If he brings beers he takes what’s left with him when he leaves. I’m surprised he doesn’t squeak when he walks. I’m sure his bank account embarrasses mine.
  9. Just curious why did you switch hands. Does that mean that your not holding the rod with your dominant hand. I just switched over to a baitcaster my self but I still hold the rod in the same hand as I did the spinner. That might be part of the problem I think your dominant hand wants to hold the rod to work the bait, set the hook, play the fish. Allot less awkward. Just my 2 sense.
  10. Sure don’t look like it.
  11. If it’s just veggies you should be able to get it out. Setting the hook should free it up.
  12. I am no expert but also keep the rod pointed away from the fish so the flexibility in the rod keeps constant pressure to keep the hooks dug in. A split second of slack is bad news.
  13. Hah, I can’t seem to get one bite on that exact bait and here you go catching them two at a time. Lol. Nice catch
  14. With the water being so warm I seem to have to thoroughly fish every we’re I try, sometimes I get a few sometimes I don’t. At night bank fishing I should add. They seem to be randomly patrolling, the ones I’m getting. I caught a two pounder right at my feet with a whopper plopper last night on my tenth cast right when I was about to pick it up. Like they swam right into each other at my feet. That makes sense I have caught a few good ones on lunch break with the 7” senco s and 10” worms
  15. Dido on night time
  16. I’ve only been using them for a couple days now and have caught a half dozen small ones on the blue gill nothing on the loon yet. The blue gill has done well considering how many times it was thrown. I would love that bass one it would work well in my favorite little pond.
  17. My favorite little pond only has 3 small spot to cast from but you can cast into a large area to fan out. So your kind of stuck there. Luckily when the water is high like it is now you can use allot of different baits and get bites. Everything from soft plastics to square bills run just over the tops of the weeds. It helps keep you from getting bored staying I. One spot. It also has allot of fish I. The 2-3 pound range with some larger ones caught fairly regular also. Great place to kill a hour after work or whenever you have time. 5 mins from home.
  18. I would definitely grab some stick baits if you don’t have any, they work great allot of the time. I use the yum brand 5” allot. they are cheap compared to some of the other brands. I honestly don’t know if there better or worse then other brands but I do know they work. Maybe another type of worm with a tail they also work well. Just a couple of colors will get you started green pumpkin, watermelon/red, and a blackish color will get you on the water and catching fish in most places from what I understand. You can definitely get more colors but those are the three I have the best luck with it may be different we’re you are. I am no expert but those few things are what I started with and I think I’ve done well this summer. Good luck and have fun picking out some stuff, it’s part of the enjoyment for me. Take it easy.
  19. Nice fish, any day you can hold a few in your hand is a good one.
  20. Hi, that was a great intro, I should have had you right mine lol. I’m very simmalar to you haven’t fished since I was a kid now I’m all in trying to learn stuff. Soft plastics has been the bait for me this summer hard not to get a bite on them if you haven’t tried them yet.
  21. Yeah, I’m pretty much there now. My new stuff is a huge upgrade from my one Walmart combo and tackle box. I’m already thinking about my next setup (that I promised myself I wouldn’t buy till next spring). Who would have ever thought getting my grandson a fishing rod for Easter would turn into this lol. It certainly rekindled something inside me from when I was a kid. I think one more setup and I’ll be good(wink, wink). That will let me cover most of the bases for the fishing I do around here. That one more to play the short stop position feels pretty important right now lol.
  22. That awsome, really hoping to pick one up next spring lots of small ponds Around here that would be perfect for. Good luck with it.
  23. Hi guys, as I started saying in the wrong place earlier I just upgraded all my stuff. Sadly that’s only 2 rods and a pack. I picked up a fantastic new Curado k, (it’s awsome) and put it on a bass pro carbon lite 2.0 6’6” mh I really like the set up. I also got a Shimano nasci 2500 on a 6’6” carbonlite 2.0 medium fast which I also really like. A new bp tackle backpack. Swapped all my stuff over from a $12 three tier Walmart box, what a improvement. This is by far the best quality gear I’ve ever had and I’m pretty excited about it. The Curado is my first baitcast set up and I’m having fun getting used to it. That’s it for now just wanted to share my excitement on this rainy day.
  24. This is a great thread. I live InMethuen and this is great info very useful. I only know a few small ponds myself but this thread will help that allot.
