  1. Thanks -Coach, any places you would be willing to recommend. I have only done Coosa/Logan Martin so far and am in process of planning a trip on Cheaha Creek. Thanks in advance.
  2. All great responses. It takes some practice but its not that tough...bigger fish are more troublesome so a small net is a huge help.
  3. Hey guys, live about 5 miles from Logan Martin, and I enjoy fishing that body of water but as a Kayak fisherman I am also on the lookout for small bodies of water to fish. Any recommendations on some small bodies of water an hour or so away would be greatly appreciated. I don't mind doing a bit of trekking and portaging to get to a spot especially if it is a spot that is vacant of power boats and PWC's....not that I have an issue with that at all, just when my yak has a 1hp motor (me) calm water is fast water Also any tips on getting permission to fish small ponds I may find on google maps etc... I want to always be the guy that does the right thing and not assume its ok and trespass on someones private lake. Cheers!
  4. Well said @dink I was going back and forth on the Ascend 10T and 12T and am SOO glad I went with the 12T. A hitch extender made travel with my short bed truck that much easier as well as making it a breeze to load up and unload. Knowing what you plan on doing makes a difference for sure.
  5. I own the ascend 12T and LOVE IT! Paddles nice, though not as nice as a touring kayak. Super stable, though not as stable as high end yaks like Wilderness Systems and Bonafide but it gets the job done. I cannot say enough about the Ascend Kayak and am a fan, though if I had the ability to justify more money spent I would buy a Bonafide or Wilderness System as they have more features and initial stability is a little better...that said I am slightly over 200lbs and I can sit on the gunwale of my kayak and it doesn't tip or even lean very much...secondary stability is STOUT. I can stand with most all my weight on one side and its fine as well...initial stability seems to be the weak point, that and the overall weight.
  6. Nice catch, Logan Martin was slow for me on Saturday too...lots of tournament anglers on the water pounding the shore and since I am a kayak angler it was a challenge to avoid. Did catch one little guy which of course made the day fun. I grew up fishing Lay Lake with my Dad and may have to pop on down and paddle around a bit.
  7. New to the forums! Been fishing for over 4 decades now. I love the sport and love fishing from a kayak. Live 5 miles from Logan Martin Lake in Alabama so that is my primary goto spot. Plan on fishing a few of the nearby creeks and rivers as well as my old stomping ground Lay Lake. Glad to have found the forums, though I am hoping the search that lead me here proves not to be true...(I think I got taken by Reel Tackle Box company) if I had only seen Chad Hoovers review of LTB first it would have saved me some heartburn but we will see in the next 6 days :). Cheers!
