Hey guys!
I love these old-school forums and prefer them over Facebook, as I'm in my mid-30s and grew up on boards like this one.
Truthfully, I didn't start seriously bass fishing until just a few years ago! I grew up in Louisiana and while I did bass fish some here and in Indiana (family is from there), I grew up fishing for saltwater fish like speckled trout and redfish.
But years ago I got tired of watching a popping cork go down and discovered I was really after the "chase" and eventually discovered bass fishing as I know it today.
I've fallen in love with Big Mouth, and if I had to fish ONE fish for the rest of my life it'd be America's fish. No questions asked!
So I fish them here in Louisiana's marsh, not far from where reds and specks are caught, often right next to them.
And while there is a LOT of bass, there are not that many big ones, because Louisiana folk love eating bass, and will keep limits every time they go out.
I don't understand it, but they'd rather have a fish & mayonnaise sandwich over having bigger fish to catch. Tournaments here can be won with 10-12lb bags, though that is improving to 15lbs and the occasional 18-20. Guys will run to Venice for tournaments, and that's a long run, often requiring a refuel.
So I've traveled to other places like Lakes Conroe, Okhissa, Toledo Bend and Guntersville! Loved it!
I've learned so much there, but I do know that I have a tough time catching big bass (2-4lbs) here at home compared to how easily I catch speckled trout and redfish.
But trout and reds are dummies compared to bass, and I'd rather grind all day for five bass than catch 100 12" trout.
Anyways, I know how these forums work, so I posted an intro and hope to contribute in a meaningful way, but also to learn something from all of you guys as well.
I just want to become a better basser! :D
