  1. Here you go. Future spawning grounds. The tubes are for the catfish I was told. By the middle of next month the lake should be up another 6ft or so.
  2. What are the odds when you drop a smoke and it stands on end?
  3. Is this going on a boat or a fishing kayak? Screen size may be important depending on how far it's going to be from your eyes. There are tons of videos on youtube that show the different features of sonars. Your really need to decide on screen size that works for you and the features you really want/need. When I 1st got my kayak(09/2017) I bought the unit you mentioned above. I purchased in on sale at Cabelas with the Nav+ bundle during a sale for $360. It's a nice unit and worked fine for me as it's mounted to the left of me and only around 2ft from my eyes....I no longer use the unit and it's currently collecting dust in a cabinet in my garage. I wound up upgrading to the Lowrance Elite Ti 5 when BPS had it on sale(03/2018) for $399. I wanted the side imaging from the getgo but all the units were too expensive when I initially purchased the Helix 5. 5" screen works for me and when viewing the side imaging I can just just change the view from left + right to just left or right when needed. I'd suggest just getting what your really want the 1st time even if it requires saving up some additional funds.
  4. Have you checked to see if the unit is running the latest firmware? I think it's the following Settings > System > About > Support > Check for updates if your unit is connected to wifi. You can find the file and instructions here. https://downloads.lowrance.com/software/index.html?r=1550 Settings > Simulator > Simulate on should work. Click the files option and look at what it shows. I see this on my EliteTi 5 Sonar > eliteTIDEMO.slf2 AIS > ais.rsf Select the above if not already selected and hit save. It should now be functional as long as Simulate is set to ON. My unit froze when I viewed the sonar with no way to power it off without unplugging the power cord. Once booted back up and I selected Simulate ON again it was fully functional as far as demo goes. I'm thinking it's best to reboot after changing the setting to ON or OFF.
  5. I guess the word quality is subjective. Paying $30 for 150 yds of Smackdown braid to most of us would be considered foolish. Most users wouldn't even consider it due to it's price point.
  6. I'd probably blame the drag being set too high rather than the medium rod. One has to take into account what's tied on the end of the line when adjusting the drag. I've caught channel cats up to a little over 6lbs using 20lb braid and a #12 treble hook while bluegill fishing. The drag was set really low as those smaller bluegill give little to no fight at all otherwise. The only reason the cats stayed pinned was the drag was set really low. I figured the bluegill were sunning in the shallows, guess they were really trying to hide from the channel cats.
  7. Maybe I'm crazy....It looks like the best time to catch a pair of DD's too me.
  8. That would really suck! I'm sure it was really upsetting to him and other members of this site. There are a lot of reputable companies that sell both on the Web and on eBay. I don't buy all my stuff on eBay, but if I can save $30-$50 on a reel or rod buying it from a reputable seller I will. At times additional eBay promos even make the savings greater than the everyday lower pricing that the big sellers on eBay already have. Is there a list of official sponsors of this site?
  9. I've made a lot of fishing related purchases on eBay lately and feel like I've never once rewarded a thief. I'm selective on who I'll buy from. I mainly just stick with the bigger sellers that more often have the best pricing anyways. I'll bounce back and forth between a couple depending on who has the best price and who'll get it too me the quickest.
  10. Sufix 832 is my braid of choice. Kastking braid dye sucks. Bought some once. Dye gets all over my hands.
  11. Currently the water level is up 25ft from this point in time.
  12. Cabelas has those KVD's on sale in size 2 (11pk) for $3.88 currently. No free shipping. https://www.cabelas.com/product/bargain-cave/fishing/fishing-line-terminal-tackle/pc/105591780/c/105740280/sc/105746580/mustad-kvd-x-strong-x-short-triple-grip-treble/1159803.uts?slotId=5 I ordered 3 packs last night and used my rewards to cover the $5.00 shipping fee. Anything over $50 gets free shipping. I picked up some older lures from my bro that have rusty hooks so I needed some upgrade options myself. If it works for him it'll work for the rest of us.
  13. Took these photo's at the Ironstone Winery a couple years ago during my CA route 49 Gold Country vacation. It's worth the read. This one is the size of my torso! Jaw dropping monster gold in quartz specimen. Really worth the trip too see if your in the area.
  14. You forgot the caveman style of hand lining....Use gloves if you're using braid.
  15. Go fishing and see is what I'd suggest. You can always compare your success or failure to what the chart shows to get an idea of if it was correct or not. Too many variable to blame the chart for your failure or reward it with your success....Weather, bait selection, area, and a whole lot of other factors are going to be in play once your on the water. Like others have stated already....Your not gonna catch anything if you don't go. I had what I would consider a great day on my birthday(03/21) last year. I found a website that will allow you to generate the chart by zipcode, month, and year. For giggles I generated the March of 2018 one and compared it with my catches. Looking at photos and time stamps here's the results: Not counting the 2 dinks. 5.12lb 12:55PM 4.53lb 12:11PM 1.51lb 12:03PM 2.53lb 11:48AM Here's the chart I generated for the day. If I had gone by the chart I really would have missed out on a great B-Day! Conclusion....On that day just like us humans the Bass were biting at what we consider lunchtime. If anybody wants to do a similar look and see here's the website I used. http://www.solunarforecast.com/solunarcalendar.aspx
  16. Them are the one's waiting for a kiss from Jimmy Houston or some other legend in the industry.
  17. I have the same one. It sits behind my kayak seat and like you said it's one handed flip open in the times of need. I'm pretty sure it'll hold a world record size bass if needed....One can only dream! This Carp was 5.93lb's. Looks tiny in the net. Yes that's a lipless crankbait hanging from it's mouth.
  18. I'm 55 and I still growl....Must be a 5 thing.
  19. I'm on vacation next week so I went ahead and used my eBay certificate today towards a couple of swimbaits that are guaranteed delivery before then. The eBay ??% off sale should drop anytime now....lol
  20. You'd get your choice of colors at least. Looks like they throw in some little $60 bait cooler for free possibly? It's shown in the picture but doesn't add to the cart? Maybe it drops in on checkout? I guess if Blue is a no go and your going to buy a lot of accessories on initial purchase and you get the bait cooler it might be a better deal. You might be better off signing up for their email spam as far as coupon codes for accessories go. They send me 10%, 15%, 20% off one item from time to time. I have a 19% off one currently. I think ACK had their big sale on kayaks back around black friday. I remember viewing the offerings but don't remember pricing other than they had some pretty good mark downs on some of the brands. I think the higher end ones got the best markdowns.
  21. Have you looked at this solution yet? Not sure how big of a battery you purchased so it may no fit inside. The Hobie thru hole wiring kit is a cheap alternative if you have access to the inside of the hull.
  22. $703 on Amazon with free shipping currently on the Blue Sonic Camo color. It's weird but sometimes it's just one color offering that's marked down. Shipping on these over sized items often kills the sale prices. I know ACK charges $49 for delivery on this specific kayak. As far as the sales question goes....I got no idea as they come and go so often and I seldom look at kayaks as I already have a Slayer 10.
  23. Ultra rare photo of ME and the 1st Bass I caught after decades of non fishing! Early April of 2017. I didn't have a scale at the time but it probably around 2lbs. According to lakesonline.com the current water level is 22ft above my head. A couple weeks later I caught a much better one from roughly the same spot. I still hadn't purchased a scale yet. There was literally nobody around to take a photo of me and the bigger girl. She doesn't look all that big in the one handed photo. Bad angle makes her look skinny. I'm really glad I at least though about placing her next to the bucket! You wouldn't even think she was that big by the one armed photo. She's touching the ground and the edge of the bucket. Bucket I believe is 15" tall. I figure she was a around a 5lb'r. I look forward to catching her again some day as she's still roaming the waters as far as I know.
  24. I should have posted this one around the holidays. It's a .75g gold nugget. I call it little bear as it reminds me of a bear. There's actually a ear under the hat but it's the only quick access image I have of the nugget currently. This one as it's lunchtime somewhere in the world currently.
  25. I'll look at it again next time I'm down there. It's pretty translucent and somewhat heavy. Almost certain it's lead in there as I remember mentioning to my brother it looked to have a metal cage holding the eyes and hook. Definitely fragile as it has some tearing around the line eye.
