  1. The Cablela's Prodigy one is in the BPS ad that starts on the 15th for $79.97. There's also has a better Cabela's branded one in their ad for $119.99. https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/cabelas-tournament-zx-4000-auto-life-vest?searchTerm=2541494 The ZX looks like it would be more comfortable to wear all day if needed. I have the CABELA'S TOURNAMENT 3500 AUTO PFD that I bought back in late 2017 on sale. I kayak fish so I put it on as I enter the water and remove it when I leave.
  2. You got months of unpredictable weather ahead of you still. I wouldn't stress about it yet. Looking for promising spots applied to last year's scenario may help, but could also put you in the wrong spots. You said only 1 week of open water last year. Is that the norm for the lakes? Abnormally long winter?
  3. Kayak fishing is the bomb compared to bank fishing. Good luck on your adventure!
  4. I'm with the I don't intentionally target and fish for bedding bass crowd. Around the spawn is my favorite time of the year to fish. It's the best time of the year to catch larger bass for me at least. I just avoid the really shallow spawning areas during that time of the year. I'll fish around the staging areas for the one's that'll chase my crankbaits.
  5. Navionics renewals are currently on sale for $49.99 thru the 28th. Regular renewal fee is $99.99 I believe. Looks like option to switch plans is also discounted the same.
  6. Navionics is having a renewal sale thru the 28th. Renewals are $49.99 during the sale. Can switch plans it looks like.
  7. If it was me I'd look towards a floating fish basket. At least you'd have the option of showing mercy and releasing them if you don't catch enough to eat.
  8. I'm sure the lake survived but we got down below freezing last night it looks like. Lawn and cars were iced this AM in beautiful Southern CA....Happens once in a while over here. I'm really glad I didn't have my hopes up going to the lake today. Dang too chilly to think about being out there on the kayak!
  9. Nice to see he's back on the water again! Let's hope for his sake he stays out of the water till he fully recovers! Kind of looks like they set Bill up on this one.
  10. Here's hoping he makes a speedy recovery! He's one of the good guys!
  11. SoCal....The algae is starting to bloom already. Wiped right off with fingers.
  12. Baitmonkey still loves ya!
  13. Baitmonkey rewarded me with a freebie yesterday at the lake. I found it floating with line attached to it still. Silly me cut the line instead of pulling it in too see if there was a rod and reel still attached too it. I thought it was a cheap lure at 1st till I googled it. Lucky Craft LC 1.5 spin. Just needs a quick cleaning as it's in really great shape still. I'd imagine it was lost over the weekend.
  14. 7.5" weighing in at 2.75oz's.
  15. Same over here. Not much of a color selection at my two local stores.
  16. I took advantage of the recent BPS sale. I needed a bright colored anglers jacket for those colder days on the kayak. The traps were on sale for $4.97 so they made good fillers to get the free shipping. Everyday low price at Walmart on the traps but BPS had a monster selection of colors too choose from. Freebie from the baitmonkey today! I found it today floating at the lake. It still had some line attached to it so I cut it off. As I typed this out I came to the conclusion that I should have pulled in the line as there possibly could have been a rod and reel on the other end. Dang nammit! Lucky Craft LC 1.5 spin. It just needs a quick cleaning as it's in really great shape. I thought it was some cheap lure when I 1st found it. 1st time I've ever even seen one. Didn't know it was actually a decent find till I googled it.
  17. The only advantage of living in CA is the weather! Water temps too cold for the fish to bite in the areas I like to fish. Hooked one and lost it is as I forgot to tighten my drag back up.
  18. Not sure. You pick your options when I looked. Check rod numbers?
  19. So how do you like the unit? Did yours come with mapping software?
  20. Welcome aboard. There's lot's of good advice around these parts. Not sure what type of rod and reel your using? Nobody mentioned lipless crankbaits yet. They don't always work but when they do at least you get the aggressive ones. Just match the hatch best as you can with the color. Your local Walmart may stock Rat-L-Traps or the Cotten Cordell Spots.
  21. I can understand the budget being a concern. With numerous mounting options available today one can put just about any sonar on a kayak....As long as it's within ones budget. If all your after is water temp and a general idea of what's down there the Striker 4 would get the job done. If you'd like a better idea of what's down there then there's better options for close to the price point of the 4cv. Anywhere local to you that you could go and look at them in person?
  22. Your welcome. The video also said that just placing the battery on the ground should work also. Probably easier to play around with it that way.
  23. I have no experience with either unit. The cv in 4cv stands for clear view which would give you a better view of what's really down there. Is there a specific reason why you selected those 2 units? The price point of the 4cv is too close the the Lowrance HOOK2 5X SplitShot GPS currently on sale at Cabelas and BPS for $199.
  24. I saw a video once about the touch screen not working. It has to do with the ground I believe. The work around if I remember correctly was to touch the negative terminal on the battery with one hand and then the touch screen with the other. Have you tried this too see if it works? As far as the only button being blue when pushing the power button goes it's not normal for only the standby being the only option that is blue. Just tested mine too see. Maybe it has to do with you never got thru the initial setup of the unit?
  25. I'm guessing the not is a typo for now. Cabelas had the pictured ones in the 11pk last week @$3.88 did you happen to catch the sale? Got me 3 packs. I wish they would have had other sizes on sale. Dang hooks can get pricey! I'm still looking around to find some short shank #4's at a good price.
