  1. They do make some dual passenger peddle drive yaks. Not sure on length or cost. Wouldn't be right if you made the missus paddle.
  2. I'm pretty much the same size as you. I know it's out of your price range, so it's more of a size thing. I fish comfortably all day out of a Slayer 10 Propel. Find something with a comfortable seat if you plan on being out for extended periods of time. PS. Winter is the best time to get a good deal on a used kayak. As I typed this I can see a Fiesta across the way. It's pretty short looking to me. Maybe a 12ft kayak max?
  3. I guess it depends on the waters being fished. Last week when I caught my 7 lb'r my brother asked me how far from the ramp it was. Google maps said a little over 1.5 miles as the crow flies. I usually do 5-6 miles per outing when I'm just fishing. If I'm sonar logging the lake even more. I'm probably up to 800 acres or so of Lake Perris. Maps are outdated in areas of the lake I fish. Water level was down for a decade and the lakes terrain was altered to enhance fish habitat during the last year of dam reinforcement.
  4. I can stand in mine, but choose not to. My kayak gets pulled around too easily by a fiesty bass and often have to back peddle to keep control. First reaction for me when a bass strikes is to back peddle....Unless I'm in open water in a rare occasion.
  5. I fish out of a fully rigged Slayer 10 propel and see no real advantage a fully rigged bass boat has over me other than they can get there faster. I guess the only other advantage the boat has is being able to fish in nastier weather if one chooses. Moving faster in the water doesn't mean you'll catch more fish in the end. I very seldom stand in my kayak, but when I do it's godlike as all I can see is the water. I prefer to just sit and put around while enjoying my time on the water.
  6. Disclaimer: I have nothing against guides or using a guide service. What's she look like? Only way I'd ever consider using a guide service is if the weather was warmer and she was a hot looking babe. Something about a hot babe fishing peaks my interest....Other than that fantasy I'm a lone wolf when it comes to fishing. I'd agree with some of the other comments already posted. The guide needs to earn your tip as they're already getting paid to take you out. I'm sure they factor in variables when they set the price of their services. My rules for fishing: Pick the spots I like Pick the baits I want to throw Find my own fish Do it my way Deal with my own success or failure when doing all the above The above doesn't really leave much room for a guide.
  7. Abu for life! Is that in the really long video that shows the history of Abu?
  8. That won't work. You need to disassemble all of them, scramble all the parts together, only then will spring like weather appear....Sadly it'll go away once you get them back together.
  9. It's up to you in the end which one will work best for you. If your really wanting a better unit, but just can't afford it currently there is another option. BPS has the 6 pay option currently available (last day, might be extended?) You'll be billed 1/6th to start, then every 30 days. Luckily for me they quickly ran out of the $599 Elite-9 Ti's.
  10. After posting the 7 lb'r I'm somewhat hesitant posting this dink that I caught about an hour later. 2.85 lbs.
  11. I have the Elite-5 Ti on my kayak. Due to the size of the transducer I had no choice other than buying a transducer arm mount. In the end I went with the RAM Transducer Mount with 18" Rigid Aluminum Rod for Lowrance TotalScan transducer and am happy with it so far. It was a little pricey, but in my case was really the only option.
  12. How wide is the rear hatch area of the Suburban? I think the Mariner 3 is 50" and the 4 is 57". You can always just semi-deflate them if the fits too tight. You can pick up a battery operated air pump for pretty cheap and it wouldn't take long to finish inflating it anyways.
  13. It's not like you'd really have the get the whole kayak inside and shut the rear hatch down. You could just secure the kayak inside with a strap and then do the same with the hatch resting on the kayak. Use a red flag on the end of the kayak if needed. If you decide to go this way just make sure the kayak isn't behind you or a passenger in case some texting a-whole rear ends you.
  14. I'm with the trolling motor won't work crowd. How does he keep the 1/2 mile of pathway mowed? I'd imagine it's not done with a push mower. Maybe the owner has a ride on top mower he'd allow you to use to pull your little boat to and from the pond.
  15. My C4 was made in Sweden for whatever that's worth....Abu was Swedish born.
  16. These guys have some on clearance and some used available. https://www.austinkayak.com/outlet-sit-on-top-sit-inside-kayaks Look under the outlet tab.
  17. I'm going to have to check into the peanut butter grease issue you mentioned. I picked up a new C4-5600 back in December during one of those eBay coupon deals. On sale for $99 -15% off coupon -$50 giftcard I payed $5 for (used CC rewards) I'm into it for around $40 or so. Weathers been sucky here is SoCal the last few months on my days off at least. I've only played around with it one time so far and that was a quick trip, casting from shore when my 795SB was delivered. I wasn't impressed by it's casting distance. Not like it didn't cast far, just more like I felt like I could cast further, but the reel was holding me back. Maybe it'll take some practice with the combo? Maybe I need to tear it down and clean and oil it. I looked at some of the mods they sell for it and they're not really too pricey depending on what you get. I'm guessing possibly just a clean out and lightly lube/oil would be the 1st thing to try before going the mod route. I'll be fishing it from my kayak sitting down so any distance improvements I can achieve will be of use.
  18. Already have a couple in my cart. I'm still debating on what else I'm going to order.
  19. Caught my biggest bass last year on a warpig. 5.8 lbs post spawn as she was skinny. She's probably 8-9 lbs currently.
  20. Nice job! BBB's for sure! Just in case....Big Beautiful Bass.
  21. I had one snub me at the lake yesterday....He said I had more rods than a tournament fisherman!
  22. Mini disco ball mounted to the top of your pole will increase the chances of being seen at least when it's sunny and the idiots overtake the lake. I doubt the small and angled mirrors would actually blind anybody. Seeing how yaks are pretty light and can somewhat bob and weave when a fish farts it would probably look strobe like from a distance.
  23. If you zip tie a section of 1/2" ID pvc to your crate you'll be able to remove and install it whenever you feel the need. I guess another option that might look better is getting some of the clamps they use for conduit.
  24. Thanks guys! I was amazed that she actually posed for the picture. I thought she'd flop around and jump ship before I got the shot. I'm hoping for a DD this year! I wouldn't mind it if I worked my way up a pound at a time.
  25. I'd say 4ft and deeper would be best. They sink pretty quickly so you'll need a second or so to start reeling in. You can fish them deeper by just counting down and reeling slower. Dang things like to get snagged from time to time on brush, trees, etc. so I use 30lb braid with no leader. Most of the time I can just pull them out. Once I pulled up a 15ft or so tree they had cut down before they raised the lake level. As far as what can you catch with it? Anything from a dink to a DD or possibly a new world record. Right place, right time, right conditions.....Limitless possibilities. I caught a carp on one last year. I've caught dinks that are probably just twice the size of the lipless before. Today I caught my new PB of 7.02 lbs on a 1/2 oz lipless crankbait in 12 ft or so of water.
