  1. Wound up getting the C4 5600 instead. After discounts it cost me $35 in the end before the $8 eBay bucks earned. I had saved up $45 in bestbuy rewards that I used to purchase Ebay $50 gift card is why price was so low in the end. Puts my swimbait combo at $113 shipped.
  2. Thanks guys. Im looking into the 5500 also. Think its just a couple bucks more. I mainly throw lipless baits. Swimbait will be limited use and not thrown too much. Just want to try something different.
  3. I'm looking for a reel for throwing swimbaits currently. I'm pairing it with a Dobysn 795SB rod that I've already purchased. I don't really plan on throwing anything heavier than the rod is rated for anyways. Probably mostly in the mid rating of the rod for the most part. I'm on a budget and looking at reels currently. Was leaning towards the Cardiff but can get a really good deal on the Abu currently. Would the Abu Garcia C3-6500 be a good choice? I can get a smoking deal on the Abu currently. Figure it'll only cost me $25 out of pocket after a multi discount, gift card deal going on today. Any downside to the reel?
  4. I was just looking at that one on Cabelas as the 300 size is on sale for $60 currently. No reviews on Cabelas website. Couldn't really find much info on it online. Like you said reviews are few and far between and mostly positive in the end. Maybe somebody will chime in that has actually used one of them? I'm looking for a reel to go with my Dobyns Fury 795SB rod that should be dropped off today by the USPS. I'm one of those bargain hunter guys that waits for the DEAL that I can't pass up. I've been looking to get a swimbait combo for a while. I picked up the rod from AmericanLegacy for $78 and some change shipped after a multi discount deal. Currently looking for the DEAL on the reel. Just haven't found the one yet.
  5. I've been looking to get a swimbait rod for a while and patience finally payed off. I picked up the DOBYNS FURY 7'9" MED-HEAVY SWIMBAIT CASTING ROD FR 795SB I also bought took a RIVER2SEA WHOPPER PLOPPER 130 TOPWATER BAIT in rainbow trout to qualify for free shipping. The total price dropped by a buck and some change. $91.81 shipped. I did upgrade to premium ground shipping for $3.95 hoping at least trained monkeys will handle the package.
  6. I use kastking braid as a backer for my braid of choice which is Sufix. Bought the kastking and didn't like it is why.
  7. I'm going to try my luck tomorrow at my local lake. I'm mainly going to try out a new rod that is supposed to be delivered today providing it survives the journey intact. Hit and miss on rod survival during shipping. Other than some cooler temps, water temps dropping, lake on a slow rise again, leaves turning color, it isn't quite fall here in SoCal yet it looks like. I'm not really anticipating having a knock them dead day, but one never knows without at least trying. I'm just going to grind away and see how she goes!
  8. I have the St. Croix Mojo Bass Glass 6'10". I haven't had it long and have only caught a couple fish on it so far. It seems like it'll work pretty good when the Bass decide to cooperate again. In between seasons over here is SoCal and my local lake is once again on the rise which doesn't help at all. I ordered the BPS Carbonlite 2.0 JCT70MTM 7' Medium/Medium to try out. Currently on sale for $80 with free shipping. If it's delivered tomorrow I'm probably going to give it a try on Wednesday to see how it works.
  9. Currently on sale for $80 at BPS and Cabelas. I guess he could get a pair for close to his $150 budget or just let the bait monkey spend the rest of it.
  10. Ordred 1 rod. Had free $20 samsclub gift card for joining. Used it towards a $50 Cabelas e-gift card($48.98 - $20). Wound up paying $64 shipped after taxes. I kind of got over on the bait monkey for once.
  11. BPS and Cabelas have the Carbonlite 2.0 rod and reels on sale fir $79.97 each with free shipping. Might be worth a look to see if they'd work out for you.
  12. Currently on sale at BPS and Cabelas for $79.97 free shipping. Your choice of rod or reel. I wound up ordering the 7' Med/Mod to try out. Had a free $20 samsclub gift card i used to purchase a Cabelas gift card to drop price point to acceptable deal for me. Only in it for $64 shipped so far in the end. My purchase of the Cabelas gift card also gets me another $15 e-gift card as part of my Samsclub membership deal. I'll probably just use it towards a purchase of another BPS or Cabelas gift card.
  13. I know how you feel. I almost passed on the BPS combo deal due to the white coloring. In the end the deal was too good to pass up and I'm OK with white now. I kind of figured if I couldn't get over the white color I could always just resell it for my cost in the end. I won't actively seek out another white rod but if the combo deal pops up again next year I'll possibly buy another.....Depending on available rods.
  14. I just looked and they do have a moderate. I've never seen it listed whenever I've looked before. Must be new or it's a more popular offering that's always sold out. Would be interesting to hear feedback about it.
  15. I have the 7' MH/F that I picked up during the BPS Carbonlite 2.0 Rod/Reel combo deal for $119 back in February. If the sale returns next year I'll probably pick up another combo. Nice rod. Seems well made. My only complaint is the location of the hook keeper.
  16. I only recently bought a few WP's and have only tried a WP 90 so far on my BPS Carbonlite 2.0 MH/Fast rod. Was a quick 1 hr trip to lake to see how WP's work. Caught a 4oz or so bass with it. Was fishing from shore in a no surface structure area to prevent snags. Guess it was the nursery area as I had a couple more little ones take swipes at it. I'll probably try again next time I take the kayak out. Love throwing lipless so I'll probably alternate back and forth between the two.
  17. I use mono with a braid leader..... J/K Most of time straight braid 30lb.
  18. That's what I thought also. Bouncing around in car getting road/hook damage to the lures finish.
  19. I'll be throwing it more once i take my kaysk back out. Lipless on one rod, whopper plopper on the other. Of course I'll targrt the better areas of the lake as I'll bd able to retrieve the inevitable snags.
  20. Had my whopper ploppers delivered yesterday. Decided to hit the lake and do some shore fishing in area with no surface cover to prevent the possibility of snags. I was throwing a 90 and got hit about 8ft from the bank. It was literally a baby bass the size of the plopper. Didnt get a photo as it fell off and flopped back into the water when I went to lip it. Not sure what it was thinking as not even the hook would fit in its mouth....Silly fish.
  21. Went to BPS to spend a $50 gift card I purchased for $40 and used a $10 off $30 or more coupon. I wound up spending $5 and some change out of my pocket. Everything on the bottom row was on sale at least. Needed some more variety.
  22. I use the 3600 sized ones as they fit in the behind the seat and under the seat storage for my Slayer 10 kayak. I don't just throw my cranks in them and shut the lid. I hang them on the dividers by the treble hooks so they don't bounce around and get the finish damaged by the hooks and excessive rubbing on the plastic. Just one hook from each treble is all you need and the lids shut without issue. Super easy once you get the hang of it. It also saves time and possible finger damage if you throw more than one trebled hook lure in a compartment.
  23. I have a 40lb 150yd spool of Sufix but haven't spoiled it up and tried it yet tho. Bought on Amazon for $8 and change. Bought it for the free scissors included with it mainly. Going to put it on one of my back up reels eventually and maybe try some frogging.
  24. One of these days I'll run down to my brothers house and photo his collection of vintage fishing tackle collection. He pretty much just runs around and buys stuff at yard sales, estate sales, garage sales, etc. and then sells them on eBay. He keeps the old stuff to add to his collection. A few years ago he scored a locked trunk at a yard sale which turned out to be from the late Zane Grey and was filled with brand new sealed duplicates of his lures.
  25. I doubt you guys can top this one. Was looking at the Lake Perris weather station report to see what the weather was like as I'm going to go test out a new fishing rod from shore. Feast your eyes on this! Guess I looked at the perfect time as the light rain has passed and the image has changed already.
