  1. Hey guys, Winter is coming to a close and the yearly BPS spring classic is this weekend. I was thumbing through the ad and noticed some steep discounts on fishfinders that look to be old models. It has got me thinking about an upgrade. The top three brands were all represented Lowrnace, Garmin, and Hummingbird. I fish from kayak so it might sound overkill but I am looking for a 7" screen w/ mapping and sidescan. Which brand would you chose?
  2. I ordered myself a Dobyns Champion 734 and hit Dick's up after to re up on ned heads. Also pick up some tube jigs and caffeine tubes. I want to try tube fishing this year.
  3. Thanks for all the input guys. I think I have made up my mind on the 734. I really want a Champion for the extra sensitivity for bottom contact presentations but my wife would flip if I spent 260 on a fishing rod. @Columbia craw thanks for the tip. Going to call and see if they have any refurbs
  4. Makes sense. I just looked again. 744 is extra fast. Thanks guys. I'm going to keep an eye out for one.
  5. What is the difference between a 734 and 744? Just an inch in length or is it more than that?
  6. Well its that time of year and I am Christmas shopping for myself and I have a spared SLX 7 speed reel that needs a partner. I have a Fury and Sierra already. I love Dobyn's rods so I check their refurbished section a lot. This time two caught my eye in the Champion series. 733 and 744 casting. I thought why not got a step up to a Champion for Sierra price. The is going to be a texas rig, senko, jig, chatter and spinnerbait rod. Basically an all around go to. I use a 7' skeet reese victory pro carbon right and I'm looking to replace it. Is the added length going to be a problem? Which one would you guys choose?
  7. last year I got a Dobyns Sierra for the price of a Fury during tacklewarehouse's 25 days of christmas sale. Shimano SLX on it. The whole combo was 222 with shipping. The Sierra is more sensitive and lighter.
  8. I have 2 dobyns rods. the 735 and a 705cb fury cranking rod. top notch stuff for the budget angler.
  9. I have a Dobyns Sierra 735. 7'3 mag heavy paired with Shimano SLX reel. The combo was around $250. I love Dobyns rods.
  10. I asked the question on here. Several people replied saying the transducer has to be in the water. So I bought the arm and worked flawlessly ever since.
  11. same model I have. I tried the putty in the hull and the transducer won't work. That particular model transducer has to be in the water. Even the chrip wouldn't read correctly.
  12. I love dobyns/slx set up. Both the blank and reel are light. I got my Sierra last christmas from tackle warehouse for the price of the fury. The only difference I notice is the weight. I feel the seirra is lighter. I am budget angler in every way possible but I want quality gear. Both combos were around $200. Man a meet up sounds great. All my fishing buddies chase rockfish so I fish by myself a lot.
  13. I too am a new angler in the bass world. It is easy to get sunked in to having a huge arsenal but you don't. I usually only take 4 rods on my kayak. 1 spinning, 1 MH/M cranking rod, 1 MH/F rod, 1 H/F. All my rods are 7' except for the Heavy which is 7'3. Where are you from in MD? i'm a marylander also
  14. depending on the model of striker (with clearvu) the transducer needs to be in the water. I use a ram mount to mount the head unit and a scotty products arm to hold the transducer in the water. this set up has worked on two different kayaks from me.
  15. I am a kayak angler as well. I use all 7' rods except for my frog rod which is 7'3. The rod is a Dobyns Sierra 735c paired with a Shimano SLX. I also have a fury 705cb for all my crankbait needs. I love both my Dobyns rods. Good price and great quality.
